We had the most fantastic 3 nights in Savute Lodge at the end of January. The lodge is stunning and well managed & maintained. There is so much space in comunal areas of the lodge that guests are spoilt for choice where to relax. The rooms are huge, comfortable and lack for nothing, with each room having a direct view over the watering hole, frequented by over 60 elephants most mornings and evenings. The staff are happy, courteous and helpful . The food was great and pentiful. The guides are amazing. Our guide was Isak, the best guide we have ever had (and we have travelled to many places). Isak has a knowledge and understanding of wildlife that he loves to share with the guests. He pulled out all the stops to make sure we saw 4 of the Big Five (rhinos are not in the area) in just one day. The excitement when we saw Neo the famous leopard up in the tree was special. Isak was thrilled for us as Neo is quite elusive. Isak even made sure that when we found the many wild animals he positioned the vehicle for the best photography.
We would recommend Savute Safari Lodge to everyone. You will not be disappointed.
PS The landcruisers were new and comfortable (unlike some other lodges).

Words really won’t do this place justice. A simply incredible place with first class accommodation, fantastic staff, great food and fantastic wildlife.

The rooms which are large and very nicely furnished are positioned so they all look over a watering hole. Due to the fact that the surrounding area is very arid. It attracts huge numbers of animals particularly at night when herds of elephants arrive. It gets very loud but is a fantastic sight to behold.

The staff are super friendly and go out of their way to get to know you and provide a brilliant service. Food was amazing and plentiful.

The safari element was very different from the Okavango delta but nevertheless extremely rewarding. We were fortunate to see a number of lion cubs after their mother’s had made a kill. It was truly awe inspiring.

Overall a fantastic experience and well worth the money to stay at this wonderful lodge.

My son and I travelled to Savute for a two night safari in December. We arrived in the afternoon and we were able to do the first safari in the afternoon. We were not disappointed in all the animals and birds that we saw. Conrad, our guide, was top-notch. He was so knowledgeable on everything from plants, birds to animals. He explained the habits of the animals and pointed out things to us (like the baby elephant without a trunk). The watering hole outside the Lodge was remarkable. Many animals came throughout the day to drink, and the elephants were quite boisterous at night. It was wonderful to lie in bed and listen to them! The staff at the Lodge went above and beyond ensuring we had everything we needed. In fact, the morning that we left they brought out a cake at breakfast for my son's birthday that day. The staff rotated eating with the guests during lunch and dinner and it was nice to meet the other drivers. The Lodge is small and personal, which makes the stay warm, friendly, and welcoming. I would highly recommend Savute.

The team here did absolutely everything to ensure we had a memorable stay. Most importantly, it's a genuine feeling of being made welcome throughout the stay. Everything was excellent from the pick up, welcome, guest rooms, game drives, food, genuine staff to the abundant wildlife that surrounded us. Highly recommend, we created lifetime memories which can't be taken away.

I cannot write here without mentioning our guide, Bonnie. This is by far the best guide I've ever had on many African safaris. This miracle man can track animals, find them and once you see them he'll get you into the best position to photograph / video them. He also knows their behaviour and will advise you if you need to wait and for how long to get that Nat Geo shot!

Wildlife viewings included the wild dogs we wanted to see as well all you'd expect to see here. Hunting lions and cheetahs were other interesting events we saw.

We booked Savuti through Joshua at Lelobu Safaris who got us good rates and also organised our fly in and out.

I knew we were in for something magical as we were landing on the airstrip and I saw elephants, zebras and wildebeest before we even landed. This was my husband and my first safari and it lived up to and surpassed expectations. The hotel management, all staff members and especially our guide, Tau, made sure this experience was other worldly.

Tau picked up our group of four and another couple at the airstrip which initiated our first game drive back to the lodge. Upon arrival, we were met warmly by the staff and an elephant bull in the watering hole just in front of the lodge. We received a full briefing and settled into our cottage which had all the comforts one needed. Friendly smiles and eagerness to please emanated from the staff. Food was EXCELLENT. I hadn't expected such great food in such a remote location. The staff nightly serenades added so much to the experience and gave a further glimpse into the culture.

Game drives were what we were there for and oh my they did not disappoint. Given this was our first experience, anything would have made us happy. Tau managed to find two cheetahs hunting young zebras (a close miss for the cheetahs but amazing to watch them go from 0 to 60mph in seconds). This took his patience and skill as a tracker and OMG was it worth it. As if that wasn't enough, we had multiple lion sightings with the highlight of watching the initial courtship and subsequent matings of a lion couple. WOW. Oh did I mention that Tau also found us a leopard? Tau promised nothing other than Impala (a running vehicle joke) but provided everything. He was so good, we dubbed him King Tau.

Final summary, the Savuti area should be on everyone's bucket list and Savute Safari Lodge will treat you both like family and a VIP guest. Absolutely wonderful introduction into safari life. We went on to four more camps throughout Africa and Savute Safari Lodge set a high standard indeed. Thank you to everyone!

We spend time in different Safari camps in Botswana in October and Savute Safari lodge topped our expectations.
We enjoyed the daily contact with the staff and we immediately felt at home because of the family atmosphere.
Our gide Tao let us see an variety of animals and gave us the opportunity to watch them while he explained their behavior. Even in Covid times, our pcr tests on the landing strip were well organised.
I’d like to thank the whole staff from Savute Safari Lodge! It was a pleasure to have met you all!

We visited Savuti as part of a trip around Botswana. We stayed in the family room which sadly did not have a view of the waterhole- probably for safety reasons, which was a little disappointing. The lodge is lovely and rooms are elegant and have everything. It does get cold at night though in winter.

The staff were lovely and very welcoming and kind. Our guide Obed was wonderful and tried really hard to get us amazing sightings. We saw lovely lions but the leopard was uncooperative. Savuti is in a national park and that does mean that the guides are limited in their ability to off-road and get really close to animals. That doesn’t mean you don’t see them but it is a bit limited in comparison to a concession. There are also no bush walks allowed so be prepared for lots of game drives.
The highlight was definitely relaxing at the lodge and watching elephants at the waterhole.

The one weaker aspect sadly was the food. In comparison to other lodges we stayed in the quality of the food given our dietary requirements was a bit sad.

However, it’s a lovely lodge overall and was a good experience.

Dear Joburg Girl, Thank you for your honest review on your stay at Savute Safari Lodge. We will be sure to pass on your praises to Obed, who will be delighted to hear that you enjoyed your time with him. Savute is one of the most productive game viewing areas in Botswana and was established as a National Park together with Chobe because of this renowned predator activity and prolific amounts of wildlife. It is a perfect combination on a Botswana safari with our water-based Okavango properties and concessions where you can do walking safaris and boat activities such as Camp Okavango and Xugana Island Lodge. Thank you for your comments on the food. Our feedback is usually full of praise on our menu and food and this is something we take seriously and strive to ensure that we met each and every guest’s dietary requirements and expectations. We will consider your remarks and our Food & Beverage manager will be looking into this. Best wishes, The Desert & Delta Safaris Management Team

This was our fourth trip to Africa. We spent here the first two nights of our holiday in Botswana. We flew in from Kasane and upon our arrival they immediately spotted a leopard with the hunt. The lodge is very well kept, the room spacious and well appointed, 24 hours electricity, USB ports, fan, insects repellent spray, tea and coffee maker, hair dryer, comfy bed.
The food was simple but fresh, good and various. There is a waterhole in front of the main deck and the rooms that attracts wildlife. Will never forget two elephants drinking and splashing in the middle of the night, clearly visible from inside the room thanks to a full moon. All the personnel was amazing. A special thanks goes to our guide T.K., best leopard spotter EVER. He was absolutely amazing and thanks to him we brought home some unforgettable images and sounds. We are looking forward to going back and absolutely recommend this lodge.

Our lodge sits next to a big water hole that attracts a wide variety of game. You could gain a lot just sitting on the wonderful deck. But you'd miss Obed, the legendary guide, who starts slow but soon is helping you identify tracks, spot medicinal plants, name all the birds, and have your fill of lions, elephants, dogs, and leopard. The staff was super attentive and friendly. The food was superb. We kept wonder g how they bring fresh, variety, and tasty dishes to every meal while in the middle of the bush. His was our best animal camp.

This was the first lodge we stayed in on our honeymoon safari trip. The staff were very friendly, the room was large and very comfortable, and we had a wonderful few days. We stayed two nights and wished we had stayed for a third. On our last night the staff set us up a beautiful private dinner to celebrate our honeymoon, which we really appreciated.

Our guide Lynn went above and beyond to make sure we got to see a leopard, as well as helping to show us to all of the other amazing animals this part of Chobe has to offer. All of the staff were clearly very committed as they worked incredibly long days and are away from their families for long stints.

Like other lodges, there is no heating in the rooms so if you are coming in the dry season, come prepared for some very cold mornings! We loved hearing the animals at night but if you are a light sleeper you may want to bring earplugs.

Note we were in room 8 and the view of the water hole was amazing, but not all rooms had a view so I think we were lucky with this! The wifi was consistently strong but again we may have benefitted from our room being near the common areas.

Good Day Markey, Due to the small nature of the aeroplanes we do have fairly strict luggage requirements. Please see below for detailed information: WEIGHT LIMIT Please take careful note of this information and advise all travellers of our 20KG LUGGAGE LIMIT APPLICABLE TO ALL SAFARI AIR CHARTER FLIGHTS. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS THE TOTAL WEIGHT INCLUDING BOTH LUGGAGE AND HAND LUGGAGE/CAMERA EQUIPMENT. This is a safety requirement due to the sensitive weight and balance checks on the small aircraft and must be strictly adhered to. Travelers who require additional luggage must pre-book and pay for this on confirmation of the reservation. We would like to remind you that complimentary laundry services are available in all camps and lodges. LUGGAGE DIMENSIONS The maximum dimensions of the soft bags is as follows: 25cm (10 inches) high x 45cm (18 inches) wide and 62cm (24 inches) long. Please keep in mind that the baggage compartments on most of the light aircraft are only 25cm (10 inches) high, so the pilots must have the ability to manipulate the bag into the compartment. I hope this information is helpful. Regards, Desert & Delta Safaris Management Team

Hello Yes indeed, we have family suites available at Savute Safari Lodge that consist of two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. If you are considering a few of our other camps, Camp Moremi and Camp Okavango also have the family suite available. I am not sure how you are planning on booking your trip but do inquire about the Ultimate Family Safari Package. Many thanks for your question and hope to see you soon.

Dear Rajan Many thanks for your query. 2017 Should produce a slightly different experience compared to most years as we have experienced a really good rainy season within the first two months of the year. July, in essence, falls within our winter period and generally the period between April to September bring about cooler morning air and as the seasonal pans begin to dry wildlife tend to focus more on the permanent waterholes for sustenance. African wild dogs den in June and it is possible to witness exciting hunts in the Savuti and Moremi areas. Animals begin to concentrate at the permanent water sources, as do their predators. Soft early morning and evening light combined with dust provides the opportunity for many dramatic photo settings. In July the bush is bare and the dust pervades but there is plenty of action and with patience and perseverance the rewards are great. Winter - April to September. The days are dry, sunny, clear and cool to seductively warm while evening temperatures drop sharply. Day time temperatures generally reach 25º C and evening temperatures can be as low as 2ºC and in some areas can plummet below freezing. Virtually no rainfall occurs during the winter months. July It is the height of the floods for the Okavango Delta, after a slow path from the wet Angolan highlands thousands of kilometres away. The paradox is obvious - the flood arrives when dust and dryness pervade and the rains have long gone. The leaves are falling off the trees, grasses turn brown and are getting shorter every day and visibility is excellent. The nights are still cold but the days are marginally warmer and the weather typical of Botswana - sunny and clear with brilliant cobalt blue skies. More and more animals congregate near the water holes and Savuti comes alive with activity – July is a special time of the year. Savuti is best combined with the Okavango delta as the contrast of the two destinations provide a more authentic Botswana experience. Water seeps into areas where there was none the day before and the Mekoro and boat trips become more exciting as new channels and waterways can be accessed. Soft early morning and evening light combined with dust provides the opportunity for many dramatic photo settings. Rates are fully inclusive of accommodation, activities, all meals, drinks, National Park and entrance fees. Savute Safari Lodge has eleven twin/double standard rooms and one family room (two bedrooms which inter-lead and two bathrooms). Rates are charged per person sharing or per single. In all cases, accommodation packages are combined with access to Savute Safari Lodge, which is done by scheduled light aircraft charters and this will vary depending on where travellers are coming from or going to. We strongly suggest that you contact your booking agent or African Travel Specialist to assist you with packaging Savute with other areas and/or your arrival destination of Maun/Kasane or Victoria Falls/Livingstone.

What is the weather like in March
Answer from Riley_81_10
London, United Kingdom3 contributions4 helpful votes
Dear Barbara. Hope you are well today and thank you for the question. Botswana's climatic pattern is typical of southern Africa, although its rainfall is less than countries further east. The rains in Botswana come mostly between December and March, when average minimum temperatures are in the low 20°s. Some days will be bright and sunny, some will have afternoon thunderstorms, and some will just be grey. The temperature reaches a high of 30-34°s.
