Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero is a luxurious riverside retreat in the heart of the bush on the edge of Chobe National Park, home to the world's largest remaining population of elephants. Sitting above the Chobe River, the lodge offers unparalleled panoramic views across the islands and floodplains as far across as Namibia. This is an incredibly luxurious lodge with just 15 suites, as well as the only full spa on the Botswana safari circuit. Relax in the split-level swimming pool, unwind with a pampering session in the spa or enjoy the gourmet food that the lodge has become known for. Each of the 15 suites has two showers, one inside and one outside. The en-suite bathroom also has a large free-standing bath. After a day of game viewing, what better way to relax than with a cocktail? Or if the fancy takes you, why not have your gourmet dinner served right here under the African sky. The exclusive Pool Suite features a private plunge pool and private deck area.

This was the third, and final, of our three stays in Sanctuary Retreat Camps (each for three nights) and this time we were in a Pool Suite with a private plunge pool; we had a dip every afternoon and it was ‘refreshing’ and wonderful. We did, however, ‘share’ the area from time to time with the many baboons; quite hilarious antics. Our accommodation (no. 1) was excellent with a/c and fans, huge bathroom with a deep bath, and plenty of hanging/storage options. There was a terrace overlooking the pool and huge garden area with sun loungers and seating area. Fabulous. The only downside was the power to our Pavilion went out on our first night (no a/c, fans or lights) and it took some time the next day to fix. As we had now moved on from the Okavango Delta to the Chobe River area, everything was more green and lush, and the gardens around the Pavilions reflected this. There was a lovely two-level general pool and a winding path from our Pavilion to the general area. Again, as this is not fenced, it is necessary to be escorted after sunset to/from the room/general area. The general areas were large with lovely wooden floors and good dining and seating options. There was also the traditional Braai area. We went out with Tim for one Jeep safari and two boat (one included an excellent lunch) trips and it was wonderful to see so much green around the River. So many elephants, water buffalo, hippos, water birds, etc., etc. This was a lovely stay although we felt that the standard of service and staff friendliness, was less than we had experienced in the other two Sanctuary Lodges.

A wonderful lodge where rooms are very big, super clean and in a peaceful garden surrounded by the magnificent Chobe river. All personnel and wildlife guides are super kind and very expert. Don’t miss the possibility of a private cruise on Chobe River!

Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero is exactly that, a sanctuary. The sunsets on the Chobe river are quite nice to see the bright colours. The mongoose, deer and other wildlife add to the charm of this place. The rooms were gorgeous and comfortable. The game and boat drives were great, we got to see lions take down a buffalo and also saw several elephants and hippos spending much of their day in the water. Beautiful and very relaxing accomodations, also, Chicka was a great guide who showed great respect for all the animals.

Starting with our stay at the Sanctuary Chilwero Lodge on the Chobe River in Botswana, it was an absolutely incredible experience from start to finish. The lodge is designed, with beautiful views of the surrounding wilderness and the river. The staff were welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. One of the highlights of our stay was the river cruises along the Chobe River, which gave us the opportunity to see an incredible array of wildlife, including so many elephants, hippos, and crocodiles. Our guide was friendly and knowledgable. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable, making our stay at the Sanctuary Lodge on the Chobe River unforgettable.

Being in Chobe National Park, the guides can’t go off the dirt roads to track or get closer to the game. The best part of the animal experience is found on the river cruises. The boats can get quite close (but still in a safe manner) to the hippos, elephants, crocs, etc. Our game guide/driver was Bobby and he was excellent in all aspects. The accommodations are luxurious and it was so nice to have our laundry done each day.

We spent 3 nights here on our tour of Southern Africa, and were initially wondering if it was going to be too similar to the other lodges we had stayed at. We shouldn't have worried - this place is one-of-a-kind! First, the setting on the river is spectacular, and provides all sorts of different views and perspectives being in a boat vs being in a Jeep. Our guide Tim was very knowledgeable and even managed to get us to the right place at the right time to witness some lionesses stalking a warthog family. The circle of life. He was obviously very passionate about nature and our the beauty of our surroundings. The lodge itself was lovely. Nice view from our deck, and it was fun to see elephants ambling by, baboons cavorting on the lawn, and some cheeky mongoose checking us out. The food was great, and we really enjoyed the buffet-style meals, including an African-style BBQ cookout, and make-your-own pizzas! The spa was a little disappointing - the facilities were kind of run down and the massages were just mediocre, but that didn’t dampen the enjoyment of our stay, as the lodge delivered on all the important aspects of safari life!

From the moment we were picked up at Kasane by our guides, it was absolutely relaxing and we just did not have to do anything. A group of 10, we were thoroughly spoilt rotten and on top of it were treated to an amazing safari with knowledgeable and highly professional guides Chika and Bobby. The team led by Busi were attentive and no request was too small. Ishmael was a delight behind the bar or wherever he was assigned to. Will definitely be back
