Perched high on the eastern side of the Ghoha Hills, this hilltop retreat boasts unparalleled 180 degree views across the savannah and the natural waterhole which attracts wildlife year round. To the south east of the lodge, the Savuti Marsh beckons with its unique game viewing opportunities. The Marsh is a relic of an inland lake which is fed by the Savuti channel. Covered by extensive savannah and rolling grasslands, the wildlife is dynamic year round. The dry and wet seasons change the scenery and offer sightings of the annual migrations of zebras and predators. Elegance abounds in the eleven well-appointed canvas suites, which have been elevated on wooden decks, ensuring spectacular sunrise views. An exclusive and intimate ambience permeate this understated luxury lodge affording even the most discerning of travellers to Botswana a truly unique safari experience. Ghoha Hills is an eco lodge, using solar power for minimum impact to the environment. The lodge blends into the natural environment whilst maintaining the integrity of the pristine natural bush.
In early October, we spent two nights at Ghoha Hills Lodge as self-drivers. The journey was adventurous, manageable with a 4WD and some experience. Ghoha Hills Lodge in Botswana exceeded our expectations in every aspect. The manager and the guides on the game drives demonstrated impressive professionalism and passion for wildlife. The accommodations were comfortable, the food was top-notch, and the breathtaking landscape completed an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for nature lovers and safari enthusiasts!

We lions on every day we were there - Males, females, cubs. We also saw them interact with other animals - Being chased by an elephant on one side , and eating a baby elephant on the other. My wife and I wernt on honeymoon to 3 places in Botswana (Chobe river front, Savuti, and Okavango). This was the place where we interacted with animals the closest although it was the most dry. We were able to see the hyena from very close which is not common. We also saw many animals of the likes of elephants, giraffes, sable antelopes. The lodge was not large yet it was cozy. We were able to make good use of the swimming pool (it was really hot) and the fire pit. We were also in close communication with key staff: the manager and our tour guide so they had everything very well prepared. The drinks we wanted and slightly adjusted eating schedule…

We had a terrifying, disastrous stay at Ghoha Hills. Stay away. In short, thanks to their repeated complete lack of care, we spent hours stranded in the midday sun (35C+) in the middle of a national park, without a working radio. This could have ended very very badly. They don't take basic safety seriously. We booked a birthday weekend trip at Ghoha Hills and had the hotel organize transfers, supposedly 3 hours each way by jeep from Kasane (at US$1,000 round/trip), which they contract with Flame of Africa in Kasane. On the way out, our jeep broke down 30 minutes in - after about an hour's wait, the jeep was replaced by another one, which broke down as well and was thankfully jump started by a passing vehicle on the way (luckily the other vehicle had starting cables, ours didn't). Its radio didn't work. Imagine our surprise when that same vehicle came to pick us up two days later for the return journey. Of course this vehicle broke down in the middle of a dirt road in the national park, in the midday heat, infested by sand gnats. We obviously couldn't go anywhere to hide because of the danger of animals - an elephant walked by and luckily was uninterested in us. Thank GOD we had a single bar of service on our phone so we could call for help - the radio of course still didn't work. We could have been genuinely stranded. Not a single other vehicle passed us going to Kasane in three hours. We missed our connection and pre-booked Chobe River safari. Flame of Africa offered to bring us to our hotel on the Namibian side, but sure enough their boat broke down as well, leaving us stranded in the weeds surrounded by hippos and elephants on the riverbank (I wish I was making this up, but if it weren't all so dangerous, it'd be farcical). After our stay, we received no apology, no note, no explanation. After I then reached out, all Ghoha Hills Savuti Lodge offered was $250 off the $1,000 transfer cost. It's fair enough to expect the unexpected when traveling on dirt roads in remote areas with limited infrastructure - things happen. But the complete lack of preparation or ownership of cascading, avoidable problems was shocking, and I've never experienced anything like this in decades of traveling, especially not at this price level. And if all of the above isn't disqualifying, please also consider staying closer to the Chobe River for safari reasons. The landscape around Ghoha Hills is very dry and our game viewing was poor (in April). Over 12 hours of game drives, we saw zero cats (there aren't any resident lions in this area), mostly impala, some elephants, a few ostriches and plenty of giraffe. Please also don't believe their website as they don't offer visits to the baobab grove or the cave paintings (supposedly because of "safety", yeah right) on their day-long excursion, despite advertising it. We saw more wildlife in a single hour on the river than in three days at Ghoha Hill Savuti Lodge. On our 10-day safari trip, this was the most expensive and by far the most disappointing stay. The staff at the lodge was lovely. The complete dereliction of duty otherwise, less so. Unethical and unprofessional, please do yourself a favor and go anywhere else.…

Response from Ghoha Hills Savuti Lodge, Marketing at Ghoha Hills / Nogatsaa Pans

Dear ispeakbelgianese Thank you for you review. We took your initial feedback serious during our communication in April, as we take all guest comments serious and believe in addressing them with honesty and transparency. We find it important to set the record straight regarding certain points you've raised. 1. Safety & Communication: Our commitment to the safety of our guests and staff is paramount, including the use of third-party suppliers. All the transfer vehicles are fitted with Garmin in Contact systems and Cell-phone communication as a back-up. The travel time from Kasane to Ghoha Hills is approx. 3 hours – this can vary – delays included stops for elephant sightings requested by yourself and a 30-minute delay for a replacement vehicle. Your original communication with us was 30 minutes and not 1 hour as now mentioned. Your departure trip was the transfer that was not pleasant and for this we refunded 50%. Moving forward, Flame of Africa – our third-party supplier - have implemented a strict check on all transfer vehicles for drivers to ensure a smoother experience. 2. Lack of Communication: We sincerely apologize for the initial lapse in communication regarding your transfer delay. Once this was brought to our attention, both Ghoha Hills and Flame of Africa extended our heartfelt apologies and regrets, and we initiated the relevant refund and corrective measures. 3. Game viewing & Landscape: The Savuti is indeed a world-renowned area teeming with wildlife, including the Savuti Marsh pride that has been featured in many documentaries. Your comment about the lack of resident cats in the area is incorrect. We also want to clarify that we do visit the baobab grove and rock art during our full day game excursions, as advertised on our website. Your feedback suggesting that what we advertise is not accurate is not in line with our commitment to transparency. Botswana experiences different seasons, and the state of the landscape can vary. Your stay in April was at the end of the rainy season (Dec – March), which can make the landscape appear dry. We have two waterholes in our area and many in the Savuti Marsh area. Wildlife sightings are unpredictable, and other guests staying during the same period as you had positive feedback on game viewing and guiding. 4. Reputation and Staff: We take great pride in our reputation and ethical values, as reflected in our numerous excellent and very good reviews. We highly value our outstanding staff, and their caliber is a testament to our commitment to excellence. While we understand the importance of constructive feedback, we firmly assert that certain claims are inaccurate and misleading. We remain dedicated to offering exceptional experiences to all our guests and are always open to constructive feedback that helps us improve. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope that you will consider visiting Ghoha Hills again in the future. Your feedback helps us enhance the experiences we offer, and we are committed to delivering memorable and exceptional adventures. Sincerely, The Ghoha Hills Team

Spent a lovely 3 nights here. The lodge sits high on the hills and offers sweeping views across Chobe National Park. Rooms are spacious, super comfortable beds, plenty of hot water. No AC, but good fans and nights were comfortable. The spa services were outstanding and SG has magic hands. Meals are superb and the lodge staff attentive and friendly. Ask for something and bam, it’s there. Lodge Manager TAnbo and his team make you feel at home the moment you arrive. Game drives are in Chobe National Park, which can mean your Guide has to contend with other vehicles and people that don’t always follow the rules. Tan did a fantastic job of doing just that and delivering some truly remarkable moments. I enjoyed my time here and highly recommend it.

The game viewing was fantastic. Our guide, Vasco, was incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and charismatic. The main lodge had a number of different areas to enjoy the stunning views of the elephants and wildlife every afternoon, the Tents were spacious and comfortable, and the meals were terrific. One special highlight was the quality and genuine enthusiasm of the staff singing on our final night. Quite extraordinary harmonising and a lifetime memory of our stay at Ghoha Hills. Highly recommended.

Staying at this lodge was an overall great experience. There were a few minor issues that could’ve turned into major issues, but they were fixed and remedied other than that it was a great experience. The main issue arrived with my wife, having severe food allergies. This was communicated to the lodge ahead of time, and we were told that it would not be an issue. They even confirmed the allergies upon arrival. Hope who was the chef was great in dealing with my wife’s allergies, but there were other chefs that were on duty that were not so great. My wife would be told that she would be able to eat some thing and then she would begin to eat it and then they would come and tell her oh wait do not eat that it took until lunch on the third day to get the allergy situation figured out. My wife does carry an EpiPen for emergencies, but when you are in extreme rural Africa, you want to hope that there are no issues. This situation was very upsetting to my wife who is very understanding about the situation, but after multiple conversations, they would still get things wrong, and acted as if it was no big deal. However, my wife did get sick from her allergies to the environment and develop something I can to pneumonia. They actually were able to contact the next lodge. We will be staying at and get medicine flown into that lodge in order for my wife to have it as soon as possible Edwin, who is the manager did a great job and was very helpful and concern for my wife in the situation. This happened after the food situation so I am guessing that they decided to take more care and concern in this which was a great thing that the problem was remedied. My wife and I would have rated this property three stars but once they helped with the medicine issue, my wife wanted to bump it up to four stars which is fine by me. Lastly, our guide Ran was amazing and he did a great job with everything that we went through in finding animals we saw our first leopard with him we found a lion kill of a kudu. Lots of amazing things. My brother who was with us loves cheetahs and we anticipated seeing no she doesn’t Botswana as there’s a small population of them but he found two of them for us and it was an amazing thing. The animal sightings in the viewing are above expectations and it was amazing.…

One of the Best places I've ever been. Edward and Allen deserve special mention. The place is amazing, clean, well laid out and views to die for. The attention to detail was incredible. Out on the game drive our guide Allen gave us the best time, he was so friendly and informative. Back at camp Edward provides a 1st class service with a top quality team. We entered as guests and definitely left as friends, we will be back for sure.

First safari ever! Magnificent time spent watching the animals at a respectful distance. Allen was so knowledgeable/ friendly and accommodating to all our questions. The staff: Doreen was a blessing / SG in the spa was fantastic/ especially after a day out in the sun and sitting in the jeep(which was extremely comfortable) a hot rock massage - wine and dinner was the perfect end to a day here!

We had a two night stay at Ghoha Hills, a very lovely spot with the tents perched on the side of the hill at elevation approx 3090 feet. The lodge looks down on the local watering hole and across the savanna. The tents are well appointed. There is a beautiful common area / dining area and bar where you can use Wi-Fi and charge your devices. Kennedy, our guide, was fantastic. We had a games drive our way to the camp from the airstrip and we saw zebras, ostrich, wildebeest, giraffes and many birds. Upon arrival at Ghoha we had lunch made by our wonderful Chef Hope. We had dinner by the fire pit accompanied with great wine from South Africa. After dinner, we learned that it was Hope’s birthday. We sang happy birthday to her and we danced and sang with the staff around the fire pit. We opted for the all day game drive and stopped by a 1500-year-old baobob tree to stretch our legs and had our morning snack. We saw Sekoti the famous male lion born without a tassel on his tail. We followed Sekoti quite a distance while he was looking for his 3 brothers but didn’t see his brothers. We had a beautiful lunch among the zebra, wildebeest and elephants under a large Acacia tree. We made a stop to see rock paintings that had been done by bushmen. What a day! Two days was not long enough for a stay at Ghoha. Edwin, the manager, and Kennedy, Chef Hope and the rest of the staff were great and they made us feel like old friends.…

We spent 3 nights at Ghoha Hills and loved every minute! Perched up on the hill the luxurious tents offer amazing views to the horizon of Chobe National Park. The Half day game drive (6 hrs) was plenty for us and we lucked into a pack of Wild dogs that we observed for 2 hours with no other vehicles around. The afternoons were spent around the pool, sipping a cold drink and watching the wild life come to the water hole directly in front of the lodge. The staff, setting, service and comfort are world class!!! I want to come back and book the entire lodge with my friends and family. Bravo to Ghoha Hills Lodge for making our Botswana experience unforgettable! Julian Werts
