Bartholomeus Klip offers authentic, luxurious African farm living at three farmhouses located at a working wheat and sheep farm, just over an hour's drive from Cape Town, set amid a 10,000 acre private fynbos nature reserve with a spectacular backdrop of mountains. The food is renowned, with lavish brunches and high teas, and a gourmet three-course dinner. Explore the farm and nature reserve on foot, on mountain bike or on a guided nature drive, or paddle out on our large dam. While the main Victorian Farmhouse offers an exclusive, full-board experience to a maximum of 10 adult guests, Wild Olive House (sleeps 6) and Heron House (sleeps 12) are very popular with groups of friends and families. Children of all ages are welcomed, and the houses have their own garden, swimming pool, large shady verandah and outdoor facilities for braaing. Brunch and dinner can be ordered to be delivered, or adults are welcome to join us at the restaurant.

We stayed in Heron House on the estate in mid-December.

A gorgeous getaway if you're looking for some tranquility just outside the major metropolitan centres around Cape Town. Only an hour and 15 mins from CT but felt like we were much further away from the hustle and bustle. The house has excellent views of the Elandsberg Reserve, though the daily temperatures were a little on the hot side, which precluded thorough exploration. The house is fully equipped with 5 en-suite bathrooms, a guest loo and a Nespresso machine for city folk who need their daily fix. The lake on the estate is just a short walk from the manor house and provided plenty of entertainment for adults and kids alike.

The hotel, which is adults only, has beautifully manicured gardens with plenty of shade and a gorgeous pool to lounge around. Staff were very helpful. Will stay here next time when there are no kids in the traveling party.

the 2 of us decided to grab a quick short break away in mid March 2020 as it seemed likely lockdown for corona virus was imminent. We were so glad we went to Bartholomeus Klip and can't wait to return. The room was warm, cosy with a nightly turn down, the staff were so friendly, attentive but not intrusive, food and wine was yummy with lots of special little treats, the game drive was very informative and interesting, and we were able to take a 10km run in the reserve as there are no animals likely to chase us humans! We saw plenty of wlidlife on the game drive, and during our run, a huge family of wild pigs. This place has olde world charm by the bucket load and is highly recommended - also it's only a couple of hours drive from Cape Town. Once freedom is returned give it a go!

We rented the self-catering Wild Olive House at Bartholomeus Klip for two gloriously relaxing days on this remarkable working farm. The accommodation is extremely comfortable with understated luxury and a very well-equipped kitchen. Long walks in the nature reserve and lake, against the backdrop of spectacularly beautiful mountains, are food for the soul, and the friendly, efficient staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. If you don't feel like cooking, scrumptious meals in the restaurant can be ordered ahead of time. We will definitely be back.

For those of you reading this just a quick overview that we had a reservation for BK over the festive period for my parents. However as they are elderly and with the Covid numbers rising in the Western Cape they prefer to stay home and travel at a later stage. The case team and management were very accommodating about this last-minute cancellation however we put in place to bring BK to them.

**********************************
Good morning Lesley, Louise, Lucas and team.

I would just like to say a very Merry Merry Christmas to all of you and to thank you for the absolute best Christmas meal my family and I have ever had..

We felt like we were at BK. The presentation the packaging everything went above and beyond again a big thank you.

Our breakfast brunch with the muesli pies the honey nuts and your famous granola was just so Like being back at BK after a game drive having the best brunch in the world! My mum said she could even smell BK!

Well then came dinner that evening with the lamb and the potatoe Grattin and the mouth watering jus to accompany it. We literally all licked our plates clean.

Our Christmas Day food box was the best we have all ever had. The portions where so generous, we had it all over again yesterday.

Every item was full of taste, flavours and they were all mouth watering delicious.

Thank you once again and especially to Lucas for the long drive to Fish Hoek.

We cannot wait to actually be there in person in the not too distant future. Hats off to each and everyone of you for recreating Christmas at our home.

All the best for the New Year and will be in touch shortly.

Kind regards

Kim Davis

A delightful place to stay, a few miles up a gravel road. We stayed in the suite which is beautiful, spacious with a large outdoor space. It is very private with great views and many visiting sunbirds and robins.
Everything is included, excellent food all day. Breakfasts was all freshly prepared, and afternoon tea was astounding, it was very difficult not to eat too much before dinner! After the game drive a different wine and canapés were served on the terrace each night. .Dinner itself was a set menu available to view at afternoon tea, it was no problem to change a dish or dishes if required. I was given excellent and imaginative vegetarian options. A leisurely and relaxed evening.
The grounds are very nicely kept with a pool and comfy lounging chairs in the shade. The dam is a few moments walk away and has a beautiful shaded area to observe the many birds there, occasional canoes too.
Our only negative is that pleasant as the drives were they maybe are more nature drives than game drives. The animals are skittish and very distant indeed. However the scenery is dramatic and Esmerelda is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. We were lucky enough to see an endangered wild geometric tortoise whilst in the park.
A lovely stay, could have stayed a few more nights! This hotel has a very high number of repeat guests, many who have lost count of how often they have visited. It’s easy to see why they return.

Many thanks for your review and for these lovely words. You are right about the "nature drive" as opposed to "game drive", I hope this has not been misrepresented to you. The experience is all about being in a unique part of the Cape Floristic Region (in particular "Renosterveld"), not quite aimed at viewing the big five ;-)) Very happy to see that our kitchen team did not disappoint, we are very proud of chef Louise Gillett and her team! Thank you for your stay and love from all of us at BK xx

If I could bottle the calming energy felt at Bartholomeus Klip, I would... Instant relaxation, calm and stillness. Tucked away in the beautiful mountains and only a short hour to hour and a half from the center of Cape Town - highly recommend a stay here (at least 2 or 3 nights).

We were lucky enough to stay over New Years Eve, going into 2021 (the perfect place to separate yourselves from the crowds) and the amount of time and effort spent on making this a memorable event for the guests (max 10 at the main house), was evident. The food at Bartholomeus Klip is absolutely incredible! Each meal, whether it's brunch, high tea or dinner, is an exciting event as you know the offerings are going to be out of this world. Each meal is set, but with the amount of courses and offerings you definitely will not go hungry - already missing the food!

Overall a delightful stay. We spent time on the dam, took bikes out into the reserve, enjoyed a morning nature drive (informative about what the farm gets up to and the projects they are involved in) and many hours by the pool and garden. This place is bliss and not to be missed!

We spent 4 nights at Wild Olive Cottage after a long lockdown and it is just what we needed, plenty of fresh air, outdoor and indoor activities, the right balance between luxury and the comforts of home. I can nightly recommend the meal boxes. The quality is outstanding the portions were generous and it was a real spoiling having top class meals with very little effort.

Our 2-day, 2-night stay at the Wild Olive Farmhouse at Bartholomeuw Klip was truly a memorable experience. The farmhouse is fully, fully equipped with everything and more of what a family requires to enjoy a comfortable stay. My wife and I enjoy spending time in the kitchen preparing all sorts of meals for our family of 5. We were thus very pleased with the fully equipped kitchen that this establishment offered. All kitchen cutlery, crockery and appliances were of a very good, high quality and since we view the kitchen as the center of a home, this one truly lacked nothing. The farmhouse is clean, hygienic and absolutely comfortable. Bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas are notably comfortable and very well kept. A true home away from home BUT in a "Garden of Eden" with the most beautiful Elandsberg Mountain Range and the Elandsberg Nature Reserve on its doorstep. Thank you to Esmerelda for the Land Rover nature drive ... we thoroughly enjoyed the scenery of diverse plants and animals which the nature reserve offers. Thank you to Louise, Lesley, Mariska and Esmerelda for a beautiful weekend at the Wild Olive Farmhouse at Bartholomeus Klip. We will definitely return. The Goliath Family.

wonderful, exceptional food if not too much and rich [ lots sauces and juices], game viewing unable see the animals too far distant, was a pity. Also on ex farm land so the authenticity of the terrain was compromised. Knowledge of the guide exceptional and friendly, same with all the serving staff, really felt pampered. Pity no buffalo still on your brochure.

Dear rmkramer, thank you for your review. Sincere apologies for the confusion about the (discontinued) buffalo breeding programme, we have double-checked and updated our website. We have been running the buffalo programme for 20 years, but relocated all buffalo to Lapalala Wilderness in August 2019. Love from the BK team xx
