Our family spent only one night at one of the campsites. What a wonderful new discovery. Extremely neat and tidy sites, clean ablutions and a lovely swimming pool to cool off in. It was very quiet. Abundant birdlife and just a real country getaway. And it's under 40 km's from where we live - so we pack up and we're there in half an hour! And one night away feels like four. Highly recommended. In winter we'll try the accommodation.
Lovely place, neat and tidy, amazing showers and clean ablutions. Friendly owner willing to assist, No kids allowed so if you want a peaceful break it is the place to go. Loads of birds, plenty of walks to do and close to Riebeek Kasteel which is worth a visit to wonder around.
We decided last minute in December to get away for a couple of days. We tried a couple of campsites but they were fully booked. One thing that always prevents us from camping during the holidays is the noise factor and lots of screaming kids. Well we were so happy to have found Fish Eagle River lodge. Not only was it serenity personified, it also has a no under 18 age policy. It was bliss. From the time we arrived there we were welcomed by Steve and Kay, and the dogs... The camp site was spotless, braai facilities no problem and the ablutions always clean and loads of hot water..... not that we needed hot water in the heat, but it was there none the less. They have just installed a lovely pool, small but just enough to cool off. Trees are still growing, but in summary…
We stayed in the self catering unit for the Valentine's weekend. The unit is well equipped and serviced daily. It is also very private with a separate entrance with a balcony and weber braai overlooking the pool and stunning views! It is a little bit away from Riebeek Kaseteel itself and there are no lights at night so upon reflection I would probably have prefered being in the town itself, however being outside the town also has its advantages as it is very quiet and the drive in to town is only 10 minutes. Overall a great stay!
We booked for three nights and stayed for five! Tucked away round the corner from Hermon and Riebeeck Kasteel, and right on the river, we discovered a piece of paradise! Steve and Kay were there to welcome us and show us to the beautifully grassed and shady camp site, and from the time we arrived to the time we left, we enjoyed every minute. Being 'Mature' campers, an added bonus was the fact that no children under 18 are allowed, so our peace was unbroken! In the words of Arnie 'We'll be back!' Thanks Steve and Kay, and Alfie the dog enjoyed it too!
