This amazing location is nestled amongst the Fynbos and Milkwood forest and provides the perfect location to experience and immerse yourself within this important flora and fauna of South Africa. This holiday is certainly for all ages with plenty of activities to keep you occupied - horse riding, a river cruise, forest walks, exploring caves, the list is endless. As for accommodation, we stayed at the Forest Lodge which is classed as 5 star and it truly is. Catering for full board, the food is exceptional with wonderful choices. What really makes this more than just a holiday is the exceptional staff at every level - intuitive, friendly and welcoming - who are fully engaged with the guests. We highly recommend Grootbos private nature reserve and will certainly return in the near future.

Only giving 5 stars because that is the maximum! We would 100% give more! This hotel made us feel so special, so luxurious and wen‘t above and beyond the fullfill all our wishes. A place that really goes the extra mile for you. Also due to great staff at reception/ management. • The suits are fantastic, very big, nice views, shower & bath. All inclusive mini bar & a working fire place. • The restaurant has such amazing staff, with great knowlage. The menus are a la cart and have lot’s of variety. • at check-in you get to choose from a large option of included activities. We did the flora & fauna drive, as well as the cave & beach tour. Both were very intresting. Our guide Kyle was very enthousiatic, knowlageble and super friendly. • we had 2 massages at the spa, which were awsome too. Overall we could not have wished for anything more. A HUGE thank you to all the staff and everyone who made our stay extra special. We hope to be able to come back again. Sh. & Y. Bl.

We are having a fabulous time at The Grootbos private reserve . The lodges are spacious and luxurious . The staff can’t do enough for you . The views are stunning and there is so many great activities to keep one busy . Disappointing menu for PESCATARIANS as only yellowtail on menu (having warned hotel about our dietary limitations ). Sun beds also uncomfortable . However,we think this is a must place to visit and stay at . Horse-riding especially was so much fun . 9/10 for this beautiful place .

We really enjoyed our stay over New Year 22 - 23 during our journey along the garden route. It is a real destination resort, and whilst i can understand those who might want to stay in nearby Hermanus to be nearer to other activities, the rooms, food and on site activities at Grootbos are outstanding and matched by the friendliness of the staff.

Stunning location the views take your breath away when you walk through the doors of reception and they continue to all the way through the hotel and into the room. Totally off grid experience the hotel goes out of its way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable suggesting several activities some of which are complementary. We did the cave tour, beach picnic and horse riding all of which were excellent. The food was some of the best we’ve had during our stay in SA and the staff were exceptional.

We stayed at Grootbos for our honeymoon and it was beyond our expectations. Every detail was taken care of! Jacques was an absolutely INCREDIBLE guide, and he added so much to our time there. He was so engaging, and taught us so much about nature, flowers, history, South Africa and Grootbos. He even took me to the ear doctor - an unexpected adventure, but still an enjoyable experience. He was exceptional at every point of our trip, and we truly enjoyed hanging out with him! (The Cave Tour / Flower Safari are not to be missed!) The staff at Grootbos was also exceptional and thoughtful. There were thoughtful and special touches for us throughout our trip, including the gift of an adorable elephant pouch and pressed flowers for my journal. At every point in our trip, we were taken care of. The massage was relaxing, the horses were calm, and the guide was patient and caring when I started to get a little panicky. The food was beyond delicious as well. Grootbos was a highlight of our South Africa trip. We were so sad to leave, but we know we will be back. It was truly exceptional in every way!!

The location of the Forest Lodge is truly magnificent and was supported by excellent staff service and fantastic food and beverage . The food was so varied well presented and prepared it was a gastronomic delight. The facilities were excellent and whilst we only participated in the gentler excursions (River cruise) it is a wonderful eco experience. Whilst all the staff we interacted with were excellent I reserve special praise for Tim(Guide) Siwe andBianca (Restaurant) Daniel (Reception) who made major contribution's to our stay with their ongoing interaction. Room was so comfortable that we woke up every day feeling refreshed to look out the window at the most wonderful view of Walker Bay . Congratulations to all of you for showing the world that in South Africa you can get world class hospitality,

A nice property but it's pretty poorly managed I'm afraid. For the amount charged the owners / managment should really invest in training and upskilling their staff (main issue are communication breakdowns and a lack of understanding of service levels). Numerous examples of poor service and mistakes. No senior management present (which would help) and at check out / last day no one even enquired as to our stay. Food good when arrived buy often dishes missing or too many arrived and little knowlegde about the produce. Horesriding was good as were the external activities. A shame as investing in their own people and process could make this place great. Not close to the standard of other places on our trip (from a service perspective).

Dear Flyer 148383 Oh dear! We seemed to have dropped the ball here and I'd love to get more specific feedback from you so that we can look at rectifying our shortcomings. If you would be so kind as to contact me directly at seani@grootbos.co.za with further detail, I would really appreciate that. A big part of the Grootbos philosophy is to empower and uplift our communities and we run a number of programmes, including our Green Futures Hospitality Programme where we take people who don't have work and give them the skills in service and housekeeping to be able to then go out and find work. We've been doing this for 20 years and we know that sometimes, things don't always work out as planned and it seems like we missed the mark in correcting these mistakes. I'm glad to hear, that despite this, you enjoyed the activities and horse-riding. We appreciate your feedback regards Sean

This weekend, we had the privilege of staying at Garden Lodge on the Grootbos estate. We wanted to express our sincere gratitude and will try to capture the essence of our stay, though we do not believe words can do it justice. As a result of our love for nature and specifically Fynbos, we booked at Grootbos. We can surely say, the experience was an absolute marvel. The property itself is of course spectacular, nothing short of perfection. It is, however, the team that transformed our stay into a journey that surpassed all expectations. Over the years we have met wonderful individuals on our journeys, who embodied hospitality. What makes Grootbos unique is that this is the case with every single person who engaged with us. Joanita, Joy, Candice, Mat and her sister and so many others transformed to our stay. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for going absolutely above and beyond. We have to give specific thanks to Mihan, who spent many hours showing us the most wonderful sights. What stood out about Mihan is his truly remarkable knowledge of the environment, his love of his profession and natural style of interaction. He is an exceptional guide. To all the staff at Grootbos that we had the privilege to meet (Joanita calming us down during the rugby 😊), we say the biggest thank you. We are so looking forward to making this trip a yearly institution. Yours truly Gert & Yvette

This beautiful private reserve marries so many exquisite delights. The art gallery with its treasure trove of exquisite plant paintings subtlety echoes the raw artistry of the fynbos and the forests that surround the hotel. The environmentally gentle buildings of the hotel blend into the wild world. The sun filigrees the forest floor with light and that light is replaced by the warm path lights at night. It’s a kaleidoscope. The flowers, the horses, the delicious food, the care for a guests needs, the melted metal of the flat grey sea as the sun sets. Beauty everywhere. The kindness of Juanita, the grace of the owner Michael and the sheer brilliance of all of the staff whether their responsibility be big or small makes this a singular experience. To see their commitment to environmentally sound management, conservation, education and social equity makes this experiencing this place unique. Grootbos is an example to the world of what inclusive multi-threaded management for good can achieve. I was delighted to be a guest, I felt like a million bucks; but, most of all, I felt honoured to be a part of realizing their dream of a better world. A world full of vibrant animals and beautiful plants and happy humans.
