Platbos combines being in touch with nature with all the home comforts. Well designed individual camps, with virtually full privacy. No need to bring your whole kitchen and bedroom along. Everything is provided for. From blankets and towels to a complete kitchen, and even hot water showers. A fully detailed information provides all the information about the camp and its facilities, and the owners are just a phone call. I had a flat car battery after the kids went haywire with their phone charges. I mentioned it to the cleaning lady who made one phone call and the owner was there literally within minutes to give me a jump start. No need to guess where I'll be spending my next camping holiday.

I really needed to get away from the constant sounds of the city and just pitch a tent, make a fire and take a stroll in a forest. It's setup in a way that allowed for a more independent experience, which I preferred. The forest was very healing, camping under a beautiful big tree also. Grounding & healing experience.

The forest trails are well marked and maintained, I veered of briefly trying to find the trail, but it's easy to navigate yourself back to the circle route and there's a map available.

The donkey boiler and open air shower with forest view works well once you get a fire going. The tap on the outside pipe was set to 'on' upon arrival, and lead me to a cold shower. Eventually I tried moving it to 'off' position for the hot water to be available. Opportunity for a sign to warn of this perhaps.

The water tank for shower and sink was filled up on arrival. Wood was available at self service hut with honesty box. The composting toilet with forest view was a nice touch.

There was minimal worker activity during the day, such as tree cutting, but the website mention the possibility on specific days. Although I don't believe it was restricted to the specific days only. I expected it during the week and was not too disturbing. Very quiet at night, felt like I was alone in the forest with only nature sounds. I observed the eyes of a smaller type wild cat in the fire light one night, but we respected each others presence peacefully.

It's pitch black at night, so the stars are amazing. Good idea to take torches for when the fire dies.

I didn't leave any food laying around and baboons and animals their distance from my camp. I observed them during the day in the area, but felt natural and not threatening. Unlike some places where trash is mismanaged and baboons get used to human food.

The fact that playing music is not encouraged was refreshing as it can be off putting to camp somewhere and be forced to hear other campers playing loud music until morning hours.

The climate is so different in the forest environment, compared to the city in some ways. It rained often, but was refreshing being outside in the rain with a fire to stay warm. I'd like to return sometime indeed. Expensive for a solo camp perhaps, but unique enough to ensure a return visit. The forest camp site seems amazing as option for more people

Thank you so much for this lovely and detailed review of the Owl Camp! We will look into the problem with the donkey boiler tap immediately - thank you for pointing this out. The little wild cat was likely a genet - they are curious around campers and have been spotted by guests at the Forest Camp in the past as well. Thank you too for not leaving food around and helping us to keep the baboons unaccustomed to human food (unfortunately, in spite of all our signs, many guests still leave food out when they depart.)

We had the most wonderful weekend in the Forest Camp. For a group of 4, this camp is perfect - 2 tents with beds, bedding, towels and more than enough space (like the Tardis, somehow bigger on the inside than on the outside), the most beautiful outdoor shower heated by a donkey boiler, a wonderfully quirky composting toilet, communal fully-equipped kitchen and braai area, and your own private path to the forest itself which was the star of the show. That leafy canopy and extraordinarily biodiverse undergrowth in amongst all the fantastic trees just blew us all away. The unexpected BEST thing, though, was the incredible, stunning, overwhelming cacophany of the dawn chorus from within the cosiness of the tents...

We had the most restful stay at Platbos' Bush Buck Suite. The suite is superbly positioned in the forest surrounded by birdsong and lush trees and has everything you need for a relaxed comfortable stay. The trails through the forest are easy and traverse beautiful stretches of indigenous vegetation, although they are not long.

Some may find that the price per night is a little steep for what you get which is essentially quite rustic but I suppose you do pay for the peace and quiet.

For us, spending 2 knights in the Honey Bee camp was a magical experience. The silence of the bush and the privacy of the campsite made it so easy to just relaxed in the "HOT"tub or around the campfire.

What a wonderful experience it was to wake up in a tent with a see through roof.
The hot-water bags was a fine touch , the kitchen was fully equipped, and a friendly request for future quests, take bigger wine glasses.

Thank you for the wild olive tree that was given as a gift. It will always remind us of our stay at Plat Bos.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this incredibly serene and peaceful forest. It is absolutely the best place to destress and relax; we arrived home feeling totally invigorated. Just remembering how the very air seemed so different, clean and calm, is enough to make me feel peaceful. Loved the fact that there are only a few guests so one could feel completely private, and almost like lost babes in the woods. A wonderfully different experience and thoroughly recommended.

We had a wonderful few days in the forest in the Bush buck suite. It was so peaceful and restful except for the first night when it drizzled and the water dripped on the roof intermittently. (Will bring earplugs next time!) That was soon forgotten when waking up to birdsong and sunlight gently filtering through the leaves of the beautiful old white stinkwood tree. We walked in the forest along well marked paths and found the 1000year old milkwood tree. The hosts have thought of many small details to make one's stay comfortable. thank you! We will be back!

most amazing stay, definitely going back. very spiritual and relaxing. I really liked that it was very private and alone and that you check your self in. literally feels like you are alone in a forest - but at the same time feels very safe. don't forget to bring torches and camp lights - the more you take the better because it gets very dark. Perfect for couples - very romantic. thank you for such a lovely experience! see you soon.

The cabin was very comfortable. We arrived in the pouring rain and the wheelbarrow was there to help ferry our things quickly from the car. Unfortunately on the first night the wood for the donkey boiler was a bit wet and on the second night the water pipes exploded outside from the rain, so we didn't get to enjoy a lovely outdoor shower. But, overall, it was a peaceful, pleasant experience.

Loved the cabin-Very quaint stay and beautiful surroundings. Really picture perfect and great escape if you need some quiet time. The outdoor shower was a real win! All details and information that we needed was perfectly explained and very easy to follow.
The only element that needs some consideration is the linen on the bed. It wasnt great quality and was pilling.
