My wife and teenage daughter stayed for two nights as the first leg of driving the Garden Route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. The Bay Lodge was a great way to start with our host (Villieria) looking after us (she booked a restaurant for us the day we arrived; she gave us feedback on the shark diving tours). The lodge is a double story house with about 5 rooms overlooking the ocean. We had the room on the ground floor connecting to the kitchen but we did not feel crowded in. Villiieria had a good sense of balance between looking after us and leaving us time to ourselves. She came and went without us noticing. The room itself was well decorated with a mini bar and fridge and a spacious balcony overlooking the ocean (great for a sundowner glass of champagne). There is a short walk down to the beachfront and nice to walk along. It is possible to swim close to the shore but there are no designated swimming areas. The included breakfast prepared by both Villieria and her maid Mavis was great (hot cooked breakfast, cereals, juice, coffee, etc). Villieria had booked dinner for us at 'Thyme At Rosemary' restaurant which was very good. Just a few mins drive from the lodge to Gansbaai. After a two night stay we continued on our travels along the Garden Route but looking back this was my favourite B&B on the trip. Thank you Villieria…
On arrival we were greeted with a Southern Right Whale breaching right near the rocks by the B&B. Our host was very quick to point it out to us so we didn't miss the sight. She was very friendly and showed us to our room, which had the most amazing views, and we were once again blesses with the sight of the whales in the bay. The room was comfortable and well appointed with a small, but adequate bathroom. Unfortunately due to the rain, we did not have an opportunity to sit out on our balcony (which looked the perfect spot for sun-downers), but we were still able to pour ourselves a glass of wine, sit on the bed and enjoy the sunset and whales from our window. The house is set on a very quiet street, and all I could hear during the night was the sea. The breakfast the next morning was delicious, and there were a lot of items to choose from. Definitely recommended for the area.…
What a lovely weekend with the family. Villeira was amazing and made the stay extra special with beautiful rooms, perfect view and lovely breakfast. Catching a few fish off the rocks was just an added bonus.
While we are in Cape Town, we had a weekend off in Gansbaai. We stayed at The Bay Lodge and it was so calm and peaceful there, far away from the big city. We loved every minute of our stay, the rooms were clean and beautiful views of the ocean but especially the host lady was so so so kind and helpful. We really loved her!
Unfortunately, we were in Gansbaai while it was continuously raining. However, we enjoyed the stay in The Bay Lodge even more. The house is cozy. We had a room on the Ground Floor with view to the stormy sea. It was great to see the heavy weaves. The room was clean and Villieria who hosted us was tireless available to help us. Unfortunately, we missed the breakfast as we were out early for Shark diving but other guests told us that the breakfast is always amazing.
