The self-catering accommodation on the farm consists of five options. Two delightful cottages, a Cape Dutch Homestead or the Old Farm House, as well as 7 fully equipped retro caravans in our Rocklands Donkey Camp. Guests can relax by the swimming pool, submerge in our beautiful dam, enjoy several hiking trails and a visit to the farm's country winery and olive shed. Visit the Cederberg sights and marvels, using Alpha Excelsior as your base. Rocklands the world famous bouldering area and numerous San Rock Art sites are within easy driving distance.
I just came back from a lovely stay at Alpha Exelsior and will go back ASAP - it was an amazing experience. We stayed at the Riverside cabin, one of the 4 or 5 private cabins surrounded by stunning, peaceful nature scenery. The welcoming owners, convenient and kitted out cabins, activities, friendly dogs and serene landscape made for a wonderful escape from the city. One of the best things about the farm is the multiple activity options. There were so many hiking trails to choose from: you can explore the beauty of the surrounding wilderness by walking 2 minutes to enjoy a drink at the lovely communal swimming pool by the coffee, walk 10 minutes to access the serene mountain-cracks and pools by the river, overlooking the valley, walk an hour to see the waterfall, and access the famous Rocklands area at ease if you’re an avid rockclimber. The cabin was also super convenient, with air conditioning, and an outside shower and a lovely lawn under big pine trees to keep us cool. Gas stoves and off-the-grid electricity by the coffee shop makes sure you can stay connected at all times. Bear in mind, we went to the cabin during one of the hottest weekends of the summer, and there were so many ways to cool down, it didn't bother us. The cabins are also positioned very smart, you don’t catch the sun that much. A major plus is the little coffee shop - here you can find one of the best cortados I've ever tasted, plenty of fresh produce - delicious wraps, fresh olives, wine and more. The farm owners and staff are lovely, warm and accommodating people. We felt at home. All in all, I can’t recommend this destination enough. …

The motivation for our visit to Alpha Excelsior was to view the Spring wildflowers and to do some short hikes in the Cederberg region. We are not boulderers. We stayed in a caravan in Donkey Camp. Our stay was a great success in all respects. The wildflowers on the farm and the surrounding valleys were awe inspiring, and the rocky mountains and night skies were beautiful. We are seniors and were very definitely the oldest people there at the time. But the memorable thing about our visit was the warmth and friendliness of the owners as well as the other much younger visitors who came from all over the world. There is a feeling of community, and not once did we feel outsiders. The scenery and the night sky were just a part of the attraction.

We stayed in one of the retro caravan (Mongoose) and loved it. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing was a problem. We really enjoyed our stay and extended it for an additional two nights. The wine tasted great. The lapa was a great place to braai and eat. The ablutions where clean and sanitisers, disinfectant and hand washes where at your disposal. The best that that we encountered in the Cederberg. A place that I would not hesitate to recommend and return to.

My partner and I spent a couple of days at Alpha Excelsior this April and really enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect for those who come for bouldering. We stayed in one of the vintage caravans which was lovely for the cheap price we paid, and were able to rent bouldering mats at the farm to go bouldering nearby. The owners are lovely and produce their own wine & olive oil - we did a tasting session which we really enjoyed ! As there are a couple of other caravans and cottages at the farm, we were able to meet fellow boulderers and spent some really nice evenings there !

We stayed in the Homestead recently and really enjoyed ourselves. The hosts are lovely and my Husband did wine tasting which was nice and very interesting. He liked the wine so much he bought boxes of it. The walk to the waterfall was my highlight although we got lost lol. The farm is lovely and I would have liked to have been there when the hen house was open as that would have been magic to have breakfast there etc. Only complaints is no condiments like salt, pepper, tea, coffee and the plates in cupboards were full of fish moths. Lovely place and nice to have a pool to share with others

Thank you for your feedback, very constructive. We will look into the fish moths, and we will be supplying salt, pepper and our own rooibos tea (grown on the farm) from now on in our four cottages. We are very happy that your husband enjoyed the wine tasting and our wine.

Alpha Excelsior have hosted my Yoga retreats and have always managed the weekends super smoothly. Besides the beautiful nature and accomodation they have to offer, there service is outstanding and warm. I feel at home here and always love returning for pleasure or work, it's all the same;) James and Becky have a loving connection to their farm and it comes through in all their actions! I highly recommend joining the pizza nights and drinking some of James's fantastic wine. There is always a vibe. As a climbing hub of South Africa Alpha Excelsior has proven time and time again that they are dedicated to making this everyone's home away from home:)

This is the second time i have stayed at Alpha Excelsior in The Old Farmhouse. This time as a group of 9 including 1 couple. Love having The Henhouse a short stroll away for their delicious breakfasts and lunches, and not forgetting the super friendly owners Bec and James. If you want somewhere central to most bouldering area's and can get a group of friends together make this place first on your list fo accomodation

A really good place to stay in Rockland, in the middle of all the bouldering area, close to the campground (and the evening bar) and of course close to the really good henhouse ! The house are big and pretty (I try riverside and weather), with a lovely garden and a good fire. I really enjoy the time I spend there.

Stayed at the Homestead with 7 other people after planning a trip of a lifetime to climb in Rocklands. We booked almost a year in advance with Becky and James, who were fantastic at communicating with us by e-mail and helped us with any question or concern we had since we arrived there. We absolutely loved staying at the beautiful house - cooking was no problem, but it was nice to go to the hen house for breakfast or lunch when we wanted a treat. The farm is absolutely gorgeous. We enjoyed using a few slacklines on the property on our rest days, and loved when the friendly dogs would come by to visit. I would recommend anyone to stay here - staying at Alpha made our trip a dream come true. Truly felt like a home away from home. We hope to return soon!
