We had heard great things about Bushmans Kloof before our visit and we were not disappointed. The Cederberg has amazing scenery and it follows that this reserve is simply stunning. There is so much to commend about our stay * the accommodation provided was excellent - I’ll say no more so you also enjoy the surprises. * the staff were simply awesome. - nothing was too much bother. * the food is simply gorgeous. I defy anyone to eat breakfast, lunch, high tea and dinner. * the daily trips delight whether it’s going to see some rock art or the nature drive. * absolutely loved the wine tasting experience. * plenty of other things to do - hiking, mountain biking to name but two. You pay a premium to stay but it’s absolutely worth it to treat yourself well nice in a while. If you can afford the price this is stunning South African hospitality at its best. A three hour drive from Cape Town-

Property's Favourite Review
This is a decades-old establishment designed and engineered to strike you….to impress you…to bewitch….to haunt. You are met by Klara who serves a rooibos drink. Klara – ‘die klein baasie’, as she called herself, is charming and ravishing with a voice and face exuding tranquility, inviting you to absorb our common humanity or, more precisely, the roots of humankind. And Jacky, the receptionist and front of house, is warm, responsive and efficient. Then there is the staff who makes your stay at the establishment both indulgent and decadent. Food from heaven - bravo chef! - is served by Vovo, the waitress. Its perfect execution with an eye to detail. And Aviwe, the barman, is professional and polished. I have not encountered staff who go many extra miles out of the way to please you. And last, but not least, a special thank you to Zenobia, our individually assigned ranger. She is just superb – brimming with insights and perspectives that amazes, excites and enthralls. The San rock art is tribute and testimony to the immortal words of Pliny the Elder (23-79 AD): Semper aliquid novi Africa affert! (Africa always brings forth/contributes something new). My journey and the art is reminder that Africa is both the cradle of humanity and cradle of civilization. And Bushmans Kloof is the grand gilded throne holding in tension the past and present. The grandeur and the splendor of Bushman’s Kloof is in the stratosphere - one runs out of superlatives from entry to exit (measurably better than the Oyster Box in Durban and the Twelve Apostles in Cape Town). I will definitely be back! Prof Khan

We stayed for 2 nights at Bushmanskloof. The property is beautiful, the staff was amazing and food as well. When booking it directly on their site, I could only find packages incl. massages etc., which we did not want or need. So, on day 1, I asked why there was no possibility to book just room and board. I was told there was, but only for South Africans. I tried to see on their website right there and found out that they discriminate in their rates. In ZA, the rate was approx. 25% lower (difference of 350 USD per night) for the same room. I don’t believe that is justifiable and reasonable. Did not expect such treatment at a property of this level.

I made a request as the widow of one of 3 best friends, who for many decades recorded the rock art on the then unpretentious Boointjieskloof, to visit Sonja's cave, which my late husband actually named. I called the office and was told to send an email directly to the lodge which I did twice, whilst staying with the wonderful, generous and warm family owners of Travellers Rest. [And BTW, we had camped on Boointjieskloof for over 30 years, at least 4 times a year.] A former owner, Bill McAdam, had made my late husband, the famous Potter, Hyme Rabinowitz, an honourary life member of Bushman's Kloof. Our son, the famous comedian, Nik Rabinowitz, had camped there all his growing up years, with huge love and respect for the area. I am appalled by the treatment I received ie my messages being ignored for at least 5 days. I had even explained to GERRIT, that I was in the area that weekend and wished to visit Sonja's Cave with a friend, and he obviously didn't hear a single word I said. I was told the general manager had 'stepped out' of the office and that they'd get back to me as soon as he'd been informed of my request. No such thing happened. Makes me believe that this is an entirely avaricious operation and cannot in any way compare to the integrity, authenticity and genuine warmth and concern by the Strauss, Olivier and Van Rijswyk owners of Travellers Rest and who are more than willing to accommodate me out of love and respect for my family
