Detailed Reviews
We stayed in the newly renovated Farm House. Beautifully appointed 3 large bedrooms all en-suite, with the best beds, pillows, linen and towels, all 5 star. The house is classic old farmhouse with loads of space and a fully equipped kitchen. Great huge indoor fireplace for chilly evenings or just ambience. Large undercover verandah with huge fireplace for braais, with large dining table and comfy lounge seating, all under cover. Swimming pool and tennis court under renovations but will be an amazing addition when completed.
We were a large group so we took the two flats that join onto The house but can also be rented separately, so we essentially had a 5 bedroom house all rooms en-suite, AMAZING!!!
Most importantly the hosts care, Charité and her team are amazing, and they also operate the Travellers Rest Farm Stall and restaurant only 5 minute drive away for an amazing menu and farm stall shopping. The best eland steaks we've ever had :-)

We were a group of four, booking for a weekend in the Cedarburg to go climbing and hiking. Initially we booked huts, but due to an issue they were unavailable. The owners generously allowed us to stay in the more expensive cottages at no extra cost.
The cottages were well equipped for cooking, had good ablutions with running hot water, and comfy beds.
On the farm we saw plenty of wild animals, had a nice breakfast at the restaurant and enjoyed a hike right behind our accommodation.
Overall our stay was excellent and I think in future when I and my friends travel to Cederburg, we will most likely try go for a cottage at Travellers Rest.

Travellers Rest is a great place to stay, on a beautiful farm with plenty opportunity to walk in nature with stunning views - especially in flower season. The rock art walk alongside the river is interesting and beautiful.
The accommodation is basic with an eclectic and charming mix of furniture - and with all the amenities one needs. There are plenty places to make a fire for cooking or warmth inside or out of the chalet.
The restaurant offers a good range of venison and a very tasty breakfast, and the farm stall is well stocked.
The staff are all friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed our stay very much.

Shop and restaurant area are good, but the cottage Provence was poor and value for money below average. Decor of the cottage could be much improved without spending a lot of money. Fore wood for the fireplace should be put out as an option even if one pays for it on departure. The accommodation is 2 star for rough and ready travellers/climbers, but for the price we expected something a little better.

It is very dusty and would strongly benefit from getting cleaned better. At best the floor is being swept between guests, and there is dust on everything else as well as in the pillows.
The accommodation itself is pretty basic but would be alright if it were kept better. The location is good, but you might be better off camping.

The Thinus house is located quite far out from the rest of the accommodation, it is situated amongst an abandoned factory/processing plant of sorts. It is peaceful and safe, yet the facilities are run down, dusty and very old. The bathroom shower/bath was not usable - I didn't shower for 3 days as I didn't feel it was clean enough to do so. The curtains were dusty. The kitchen, being the most used seemed to be clean and well equipped. Water is not drinkable and the fridges aren't very clean. I hope in future the Travellers Rest team will invest in renovating current accommodation and up keeping it. I love visiting the area but I almost would rather camp so as to not be disappointed.

What a lovely place to come to after a long and tiring journey. Everything we needed was in the cottage, the bed was exceptionally comfy, all was fresh and welcoming. We were pleased to note that the stoep had a shadecloth roofing (not all cottages have that) and that there were outside table and chairs. The stars were spectacular - and here is the only downside: that the obtrusive glaring beam from the security light at Reception was a disturbance to our stargazing as well as just generally when seated outside at night. (perhaps that can be redirected to focus on its object and not to spread so widely?).We can highly recommend this establishment to weary travellers and city-jaded folks.

Very enjoyable stay at Klipkop cottage at Traveller's Rest, with the relative isolation of this cottage from the rest suiting us perfectly. The cottage is compact, with good (and hot) water in the shower, warm and firm bedding, and a huge hearth that manages to warm the living area. Although our 4x4 vehicle easily drove right up to the cottage, ordinary sedans or vehicles with low ground clearance might need to park about 50m from the house itself. We did not use the little kitchen, instead choosing to enjoy dinner and breakfast at the restaurant - the pizzas and omelettes are to be recommended!

5 years ago I would recommend Travellers Rest to anybody. Our visit this year was a huge disappointment. Firstly there was someone else in the specific cottage we booked so we had to settle for a cottage we did not want. The maintenance of the cottage is non-existing. The bedding and towels were clean, but in a very bad condition. Crockery were not clean. Furniture and carpets are VERY old and neglected. Water pressure for shower very poor.

My friends and I loved our stay at Travelers Rest. Our cottage had all the basics we needed with out being too fancy or unaffordable. Everyone appreciated the good quality bed linen. We all enjoyed the Seville rock art trail as well as being outside in nature. I also recommend the meat that they sell in the farmstall. I just want to go back and visit again! Helen
