Staying at Cederberg Ridge Wilderness Lodge was a great adventure – beautifully set on a plateau amongst the mountains, it gave a breathtaking impression immediately upon arrival. We were warmly welcomed by a member of staff assigned to take special care of us – and special it was. After a refreshing ice-cream we were soon installed in our rooms, one of us in a cottage and the other in a room of the eco-friendly, stylish Lodge, both displaying a very high standard of comfort and offering stunning mountain views.

Before dinner and in the dark African night, our host took us on a path leading to an open fireplace and there …under the gazing stars … we enjoyed a complimentary glass of wine.

We stayed only two nights at Cederberg Ridge and having chosen the full board option we enjoyed breakfast and lunch out on the beautiful terrace and dinner indoor in the artistically designed restaurant. All meals were delicious - and staff made it even more enjoyable by their attentive and friendly service.

We did the guided rock painting walk (starting point about 20 mins drive from the Lodge) – a highly recommendable magical experience – and so were the adventurous walks on our own in the surrounding area of the farm itself. On a hot summer day, the pool is of course a perfect option to enjoy.

As visitors from Norway, we found the history of the farm´s origin especially intriguing … the owners, the Berg family surprisingly descends from one of the few Norwegians among the earliest European (Irish) settlers in the area (1670s). His background from a rough Northern environment probably gave him the best qualifications to survive as a farmer in the Cederberg mountainous areas.

We will soon be back for another stay ….

It's hard to imagine that people started farming that long ago here.Next time you visit you must do the walk around the big mountain in front of the lodge because there is two of the original farm houses of the Shaw's that settled here to farm. Thank you for the wonderful feedback, it's always great to read/ hear great feedback. Until next time.

The Simbavati Cederberg Ridge Lodge comes highly recommended. It is located a little outside of Clanwilliam on the edge of the Cederberg, in an absolutely quiet location away from any noise. The main house was rebuilt a few years ago, everything is very tastefully and generously laid out. The bungalows are rather inconspicuous from the outside, but modern, large and comfortably furnished on the inside. The view from the terraces (main house and bungalows) of the mountains was always an experience. We had chosen breakfast and dinner as options, which were always served to a high standard. The garden in the area of the main house with pool is nicely laid out and the location of the lodge with a view of mountains and valleys is beautiful. The service is very friendly and helpful; inconspicuous but always present. We would book again and again.

In spite of the beautiful location and gorgeous lodge facilities, we will not be back here and will advise friends / fam the same.
Ungracious and unsympathetic management in the face of a number of issues we had with our room - including but not limited to a leaking basin, lack of hot water on arrival after a long journey, and an incorrectly plumbed bath tub that was mistakenly filled up with ice cold water by the turn down staff on our second night.
We were so excited to come visit this special part of our country but felt that the response by the management couple was arrogant and bordering rude. We were made to feel that there was something wrong with us as guests and were greeted with remarks like ‘strange, no other guests have complained of this’, rather than the anticipated ‘We’re really sorry you’re experiencing these issues, we’ll get straight to sorting them; please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to make your stay a comfortable one’.
Unacceptable, whether you’re a local traveler or overseas tourist, to receive service like this, especially when it’s clear the rest of the staff are trying their utmost to keep their jobs and make customers happy.
Value for money is one thing, but having a gracious and accommodating attitude is another altogether and it’s the feeling you are left with as a guest that will leave you wanting more, or with a bitter aftertaste. Sadly, in our experience, it was the latter, and we’ll be taking our business elsewhere next time.

Dear Hannah, Thank you for choosing Cederberg Ridge and for taking the time to give us feedback. We greatly appreciate any comments made by our guests and constantly strive to achieve the highest quality standards. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused with regards to the plumbing in your room, thank you for bringing this to our attention. I understand how frustrating this must have been for you before the corrective measures had been put in place and I'd like to reassure you to that such a lapse in our service will not recur. We place great value on the relationship we build with our guest and under the pressures that have come with the season, we have noted that communication under a mask may be compromised. I wish to assure you that your feedback has been seriously considered and will contribute to the improvement of our product and service. We will be in touch with you directly with hopes of welcoming you back soon for a true experience of our warm hospitality. Warm Regards, Craig and Leisha

We planned to arrive at 16:00 but took a short sand road detour (according to Google) and after changing a tyre 3 times (difficult to fathom but true) we had the final flat tyre 28 kms away. Craig, the manager at the lodge graciously came out at 11:30pm to fetch us, our luggage and flat tyre too (to be repaired successfully in the nearby town of Clanwilliam the next day).
On our arrival we were greeted by a luxurious suite and a varied and delicious selection of cheeses and cold meats and crackers, topped off by a choice of drinks from which we chose a delicious red wine, from the region. We finally succumbed to a deep sleep, at 01:45 am, in the most comfortable bed and on the most luxurious cushions.
The rest of our short stay was - just too short. The food was great, the staff were attentive and their local guide, David, was fantastic and had great knowledge.
We will be back for a longer stay in August 2021, hopefully perfectly timed to see the wild flowers blooming and to take part in the varied activities and tours.
Leisha and Craig - Thank you for being such amazing hosts. See you soon.

This was the perfect, relaxing getaway. A break from the stresses of lockdown. We wanted something that would be peaceful and serene and would leave us feeling relaxed and centered. The location is breathtaking, the staff warm and inviting, the rooms are done beautifully with great attention to detail. We will definitely be coming back!

We had a wonderful stay at Cederberg Ridge. The setting is beautiful with loads of nature around. The rooms are spacious and well equipped with all one needs for a very comfortable stay. The food was tasty and very good, but with a little bit of room for improvement. Having said that, it is about fine-tuning and not to be seen as a complaint in any way. The wine list is fantastic with only local wines offered. All wines ordered came at the correct temperature with red wines slightly chilled. Definitely a place to be highly recommended.

This review is relatively objective as I have been undertaking extensive SA road trips for the last 13 years, with a 2 year Covid induced hiatus.

I stayed (solo) for two nights in February.

Easily found well outside Clanwilliam on the old Klawer road.

A modern luxury lodge built on a ridge looking out over the stunning Cederberg.

Efficient meet & greet in the car park and check in process.

Being solo on this trip I opted for a courtyard room, with no view out over the mountains. If I I’ll take the ‘room with a view’ option.

Large, clean, comfortable and well equipped open plan bedroom/bathroom area - the bathroom can be closed off by partition doors if so required. Very comfortable king sized bed with excellent quality linen. All the ‘bits & pieces’ to be expected from a property of this quality - and price.

Stylish and tasteful internal and external public areas with efficient and attentive staff.

Two outdoor pools ‘with a view’.

Meals were well up to the standard expected, and as above, served by excellent staff.

Two tariffs are offered - one all inclusive of activities and the other on a standard half board basis. The all inclusive would be an option if all the activities suited. I opted for half board and just took up the waterfall hike (recommended).

Recommended if modern luxury is the destination.

We booked 2 nights here in November 2022 and wished we had booked longer.
All the staff were friendly and helpful, the location is amazing and gives you the sense of being disconnected from city life, while affording a level of luxury we didn't expect.
We really enjoyed the activities, we went on the rock art tour which was well planned, interesting and was led by a very knowledgable guide called David. As the hotel is quite small we had all the advantages of being in a small group and had a very curated tour for us. They seemed quite flexible with the activities, so make sure to ask if there is something you particularly want to do.
The food was great, there was enough choice and each meal had an additional chefs special choice, which was always delicious, and different each meal/day.
The property had 2 pools, they were a little cold to swim in during the evening but fantastic for the day, and both had stunning views of the surroundings.
If you are celebrating a special occasion make sure to let them know, we had a fantastic surprise on our last night (no spoilers)
The location would be great for star gazing, unfortunately we came during full moon, but were still able to use their telescope and see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn.
I really hope we get the chance to go back, it was hard to leave, and the staff were amazing.

We have visited this hotel with 10 people. We had 4 rooms, room 1,2,3 and 9. We had 4 children with us of 5,7,8 and 10 years old. we stayed 2 nights.

Beautiful hotel, opened in October 2018. Beautiful location in a rocky area with hills and agriculture. A Very romantic place.

The hotel has a small cold swimming pool with salt water, big enough for everyone.

Tastefully decorated and good food. The cook provides tailor-made solutions and takes allergies into account. You can go here for meat, fish and vegetarian. They have a vegetable garden.

We have taken a walk to the cave paintings. Nice walking route, good shoes are necessary.

We also rented a boat with a band behind it so the kids had fun on the water, it was great. The hotel provided drinks and snacks.

All the staff is very friendly, the rooms are beautiful and you feel at home there. Itu was awesome, she helped us very well with a problem with our car, we will never forget that.
