Hosts Michelle and Henry are warm, welcoming and go to utmost trouble to make their guests stay as lovely as possible. Breakfast was amazing, the venue clean as a whistle, service excellent. Well priced too! Thank you from Janine Roe on behalf of my family who stayed overnight!

Although we only had one night here we were made to feel very welcome & comfortable by our hosts. We stayed in the spacious, airy Zebra Room, which was fully equipped and overlooking the garden. The swimming pool is an ideal place to cool off and relax during the heat of the day. Michelle, our hostess, was very informative and suggested we go to nearby DeKrantz wine estate for a light lunch shaded by the vines and in the evening we walked round the corner to the 'Porto Deli' restaurant which is owned by our hosts. There we had the most delicious Karoo ostrich and lamb cooked to perfection. Our host delights in presentation ("We feast with our eyes.") and hence he had trained his chef accordingly as well as he himself preparing a superb breakfast for us the following morning at the guest house. We cannot fault Karoo Life!

The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly. The B&B is situated right in the middle of town, with easy access to all wine farms in the area. There is also a splash pool to cool off on those hot days! The owners, Henry and Michelle, were incredibly hospitable hosts. Henry also made the most divine breakfasts that were also beautifully presented.

We spent one night at Karoo Life B&B
It’s in a lovely old building from which one can walk to the vineyards and the rest of town easily. Really great to have breakfast included.
Breakfast itself beautifully presented even if a bit cheap on details (kitchen towel napkins, syrup not honey, reused coffee in filter coffee). Instant coffee in rooms.
Lots of instructions in room to keep the sheets ‘sparkling white’! Unfortunately the pool was out of commission while we were there.
But so lovely to stay in a traditional house with lovely features. Would stop for a night again.

Thank you for visiting and maybe next time you could ask about the details and find that we use freshly ground coffee beans every morning for coffee, paper napkins to save on laundry as we are in a severe drought so every drop counts. Honey is available but syrup is more popular with guests who choose flapjacks. Instant coffee in the rooms is of good quality so I don’t really understand what your expectations are for the price you paid including breakfast. Look forward to welcoming you back as there has been good rainfall so pool has water and is sparkling blue and the whole area is nice and green now.

Liked · Our hosts, Liezl and Michelle, were fantastic. Michelle was very understanding when we had to check out early. Breakfast was very nicely prepared and presented. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable.

Disliked · A few things resulted in us checking out early:
1) Unfortunately Calitzdorp is not a great town. The feel of the town wasn't "safe", especially after dark.
2) Our room (twin room) was above the kitchen, which resulted in us getting the overwhelming sounds and smells of breakfast in the morning. Apparently this is why the room is the cheapest, but its description does not give any warning of this.
3) There is a church about a block away, whose clock rings in every single hour - even through the night! So we could not sleep at all.

Great rooms, nice shower :), large garden, great view and Leslie and Madeleine are nice hosts.

We visited for a day in september 2022. Karoo Life has a set of great new rooms outside the main house that are a pleasure to stay in. The surrounding yard and garden were a bit messy when we were there because of construction of new garages, a driveway and improvements on the main house. When that is finished the place will be fully awesome.

There is no power during load shedding and i must admit the load shedding was getting worse by the day in september. But perhaps a generator is the next improvement Leslie and Madeleine will implement, as Eskom has said the power shortage in South Africa won't improve for at least a year...

Karoo Life Bed and Breakfast offers clean, well-appointed en-suite rooms together with a comfortable lounge and breakfast patio. The owners could not have been more helpful or accommodating. The location was perfect for all the local amenities.

Very comfortable, safe and welcoming accommodation. A pity the wind blew so strongly overnight - it sounded as if the roof might be blown off. Michelle was a great host and made us feel very welcome. Food delivery was arranged due to lockdown from the local restaurant. Recommended for those wanting a stopover in Calitzdorp.

I would like to commend Leslie and Madeline for their wonderful hospitality. They booked us for 2 nights at short notice and could accommodate us in their outside cottages, which were most comfortable, spacious and clean. We wanted to have a barbecue on the last night before we were to travel back to Cape Town. When we could not find quality meat to buy in town, they very kindly supplied us with salad, potato salad, chicken, sausage, chops and steak at an extremely low price. We had a lovely barbecue while the sun set and it was delicious! Leslie, Madeline, I would like to thank you for having us and the kind manner in which you served us. We will be back to stay at Karoo Life upon our return to Calitzdorp!

this is an ideal location, close to restaurants and wineries. Our room in the garden was comfortable and very quiet at night. There is a spacious garden with good views over the surrounding countryside. Breakfast was served in a large dining room and was good quality. The owners (and their delightful boxer puppy) were very friendly and helpful in recommending places to eat.
