Detailed Reviews

This is a great location to get away from it all and enjoy peace, quiet and nature, and with only 7km of dirt road to navigate it’s still very accessible. The host Bronwyn is lovely, very helpful and friendly (and can also provide wonderful eggs from her chickens at a very reasonable price). If WiFi is needed you can access it at the farmhouse but once my essential messages has been sent I then enjoyed a 4 day digital detox - bliss. The cottage (Western) was well equipped (a bigger fridge with a freezer would be a bonus for longer stays) with tasteful decor and an excellent selection of reading materials. I’d have preferred it a little lighter inside (painted white perhaps) but that’s just my personal preference. The cottage design helps it stay cool, even in the height of summer, and the quiet overhead fan in the bedroom supports a good night’s sleep. The deck had lovely views and the hammock was perfect for whiling away the afternoon! Loved the river and swam every day. Thanks for a fabulous stay, we will be back :)

This place is brilliant if you want to get away from it all. Bronwyn has created a wonderfully welcoming place (we were in Western) and the dogs, stars and hikes make it one of the most magical places I've ever stayed in.
Enjoyed hiking, swimming, canoeing, the mini museum and the braai and very much hope to be back to gaze at the view again.

This was our third time visiting River View farm. It’s a truly special place where you can really relax and unwind. The cottages have beautiful views, comfortable spaces, well thought out design and are suitably equipped. Lots of places to explore running or walking and a lovely cool river to swim in. Friendly and well behaved farm dogs for company too!

We spent 4 wonderful nights in the Western River View cottage. The River View farm was just perfect for our getaway from city life. The cottages are beautifully appointed, with everything you could need. We spent 4 days hiking, birdwatching, relaxing on our stoep just taking in the view and round the fire at night under a canopy of stars. This is truly a magical spot. Tip: the Western and Northern cottages have better views and are a little more private than the Southern cottage.

This is one of the most peaceful, beautiful, restful places we have visited. No cellphones, no city noise or lights, very few people apart from the amazing hosts of the whole Lumb family, who are always there when needed, kind and thoughtful. The cottages in which we have stayed, both River View, prefect for a romantic getaway and The Old School House, perfect for a family, are amazing. Clean, comfortable, everything that you need from fans to fireplaces. The river a great place to paddle on or swim, or just sit and take in the birds and peaceful quietness. It was hard to leave, neither of our stays could ever have been too long and we will be returning soon. :) Thank you Colin, Bronwyn, Cole and Berkley

We stayed here, doing the 7weekspoort MTB race, with family. Bronwyn, the owner, did an excellent job creating beatiful cottages, blending in with nature. The views are amazing, as is the hospitality. Given what you get, real value for money and highly recommended. We'll be back!!

Upon arrival the cottage looked from the parking just ordinary except that it was sitting on a hill with a view.
To my surprise it had a nice porch with curtains hanging outside, and inside everything was clean and decorated with good taste, equipped with everything you need. Nice big shower. Unique clay build braai, very cute and even a larger communal braai between the three cottages with pathways leading to it.
Below was a river where you can swim, canoe or just relax on the deck.
Bronwyn enquired later if all was good.
Wonderful setting and I would recommend this anytime.
Please note no cellphone reception.

This is just the kind of natural setting one needs in order to de-stress fully. I could wax lyrical about the surrounds - an unrivaled river view flanked by a range of mountains, aloe covered koppies and a variety of birds building nests close by.
The cottage is generously equipped with everything you might need for self-catering. It is tastefully decorated and also has a small assortment of reading material. Everything about this establishment is of a high standard and the personalized welcome just adds to this very positive experience.

We were fortunate to hear about Riverview Cottages from friends or we would have never known about this beautiful hidden gem of a place. The eco-friendly cottage, the resident dog Jumbo (small Jack Russell terrier) and the magnificent surroundings were a perfect getaway from the city and the noise. Next time we will try to make time for a longer stay

We can agree with all those who praise this accommodation to the fullest. We were here for two nights, enjoyed every hour and would have liked to stay even longer in the end. If you are looking for seclusion and peace in nature, want to spend half a day on the terrace singing birds and enjoying a wonderful mountain view, want to hike on well marked paths through the reddish rock and the aloe vegetation and like to swim in the river or canoe, this is the place for you. The cottage is lovingly, stylishly and beautifully furnished. The hosts have thought of everything you need and are extremely friendly and helpful.
