Detailed Reviews
Very nice B&B in a magnificent setting. Beautiful house, very nice garden. Hosts were very friendly, breakfast was about the best we ever had in South-Africa. I would highly recommend staying here.
It was very hot when we stayed there; there was no airconditioning in the room. But, I suppose we could have asked for a fan and later in the eveving a nice breeze entered the room.

+1
What a wonderful find. Carel and Uwe were so welcoming. The house is full of interesting antique furniture with each room having a theme. Our rooms had gorgeous-smelling freesias - in fact, the whole house was peppered with vases of them and other flowers from their prolific garden.
The bathrooms had every necessity including face cloths and bath robes,
Several sunny verandas and other areas to sit. It's quite a rabbit warren.
Breakfast was a delicious German breakfast with homemade breads and rolls.
I recommend without hesitation

Sorgvry was an idyllic destination for us as a family with elderly parents. Our hosts Uwe and Carel were warm, caring and engaging and the rooms remarkably comfortable in a perfect garden setting and location. What a pleasure it was to stay there!

Where do I start!
Not a very friendly and welcome feel on arrival. For the price you pay, I was told that if the wifi is not working in the room, "it is how it is" and that I need to go sit on the main house stoep outside. For business travel and attending to emails in the evenings, this was not suitable.
I was also told that they do not serving breakfast before 09:00, my first meeting in town was 08:00. They did however provided me with something cold to eat for the two mornings of my stay.
I checked in for two nights, after returning from a long day of work and meetings, I found myself back to my room with an unmade bed, no room change, no freshen up bathroom, no fresh towels, no replaced coffee station... This was a bit shocking for the price you pay per night...

We made a spur of the moment decision to surprise family for a birthday. What an amazing time we had, Uwe and Carel were the most amazing hosts. The accomodation was so stylish and beautiful with lovely views of the mountains. The meal we had prepared by our hosts was delicious and sumptuous. The breakfast was so lovingly prepared with delicious fresh produce and homemade bread. Uwe took us on a wonderful tour of Barrydale and it was fascinating. Thank you Uwe and Carel for a wonderful weekend, we will definitely be back.

Beautiful old house with lovely well appointed rooms and garden. We particularly enjoyed the ample continental style breakfast complete with a large glass of method cap classique from the Robertson valley. Thanks to Carel for the warm welcome.

Excellent stay at this beautiful establishment. It was super cold, but there was a gas heater and electric blankets on the bed. The breakfast was excellent with homemade jam and selection of local meats and sourdough bread. We appreciate the extra care and warm atmosphere!

Sometimes we find the most extraordinary experiences in the most unlikely of places.
Barrydale. 3 hours east of Cape Town, through beautiful wine country and a mass across mountains reminiscent of the Rockies, you arrive in an Oasis in the little Karoo. The little desert. Hot and dry during the day, cool and refreshing at night, the Sorgvry Guest House and its charming hosts will be sure to really keep you worry free. Attention to detail, warm hearted welcome and care and an exquisite garden along with mouthwatering baked goods by one of the lovely hosts themselves invite you to sit back, relax, take a deep breath ab just be. You will return home or continue your journey, if you can ever manage to leave, feeling rejuvenated, refreshed, recharged and reinvigorated.
This place has quickly become a very important spot on this beautiful earth to me and I will be sure to return to as many times as I can to spend time in magical Barrydale together with Uwe, Carel and their Dalmatian Daidalos, their Pug Roderich and their cat Adelheid. Not to mention the carefully curated rooms with breathtaking pieces of furniture and art from across the world.

This is a gorgeous place, tastefully and charmingly furnished, peaceful and calm. Our room which looked on to the garden was a haven of peace abd tranquillity and the beds were so comfortable!
We asked if 4 friends could join us for breakfast and our request was agreed to immediately.
Breakfast itself was a delight and full of delicious homemade treats.
A very special place which we loved.

Carl welcomed us so warmly into his outstanding establishment! We were blown away by the attention to detail and just how much thought has gone into each & every aspect - ensuring that our stay was simply divine! Breakfast was sublime - a delicious mix of German and local produce - Carl has a delightfully wicked sense of humor and couldn’t have been more accommodating! You will be sorry if you don’t make this your preferred stay over in Barrydale.
