This was my third visit to this guesthouse (the second with my partner) and we both still loved it as much as we did back in 2003 when we first found it. Back then, it was one of only a few places to stay in Barrydale and although that has changed, we’ll always return here for as long as Leon and Dennis will have us. The house is like an old lady that ages gracefully but with many memories and mementos. It is a little oasis, full of interesting little details, furniture, antiques and nicknacks that tell of a full life and history. The garden is a place of beauty, very peaceful where you can while away the hours, reading a book or watching the birds. The rooms are nicely furnished with old furniture and extremely homey. The big common room with comfy chairs and games is a great place to sit in the evening while the sound opera or piano drifts across from Leon’s music room. The best thing about the place are Leon and Dennis themselves, who make your stay so enjoyable with their easy hospitality, lovely breakfast and interesting conversations. It never feels like you’re a guest as much as a temporary member of the familiy. We really hope to come back before the two finally decide to retire.

Room Tip: We stayed in the garden room facing the back, which is lovely and private.

We've stayed in this guesthouse five times and it remains utterly delightful. Leon and Denis are the kindest, gentlest most welcoming of folks and we spent two fantastic evenings propping up the wonderful bar and hearing stories of Barrydale life. Denis cooks a delicious breakfast. As always, Denis and Leon recommended places to go and were spot on. We are lucky enough to travel quite a bit and this remains our favourite place to stay! And it is always the best value on our South African trips! An absolute must!

We've stayed at the Tradouw Guest House several times over the years and Leon and Denis never fail to make us feel welcome. The environment is relaxed and tranquil, putting you at ease from the moment you arrive. The accommodation is excellent value for money(breakfast is optional but I'd recommend it) and Leon is able to supply information about local sites of interest, the history of the Barrydale community and a fund of amusing stories.

We’ve stayed with Denis and Leon many times over the years. They are the most fantastic hosts you could ever ask for. They give tips on the latest and most interesting spots to visit while in Barrydale (which is extremely valuable, considering the size and short list of attractions in Barrydale). The accommodation itself is beautiful and quaint, making you instantly feel at home. Can not recommend this place enough!

I have been here before and it was great to be back. Leon and Denis give you a wonderful warm welcome. The rooms are very good arranged around a rear courtyard. The breakfast served in the courtyard garden was excellent. Sadly we only stayed one night.
