My lovely wife and I returned to Ulusaba to celebrate our anniversary, having got married there 6 years ago. This time we spent 6 nights and were joined by friends for 3 of those nights.

We were warmly welcomed and it was wonderful to meet up with several members of the team that were there 6 years ago.

We again stayed at Safari Lodge which is built along the banks of the dry Mabrak riverbed and our room gave the feeling of being in the heart of the bush.

The lodge is awesome, with rooms spread out either side of the central communal area and swimming pool. We visited the spa which gives the feeling of being out in the open bush. The shop has some great clothing and we left with full bags!

The staff are friendly, so very helpful and highly efficient. They went out of their way to fulfil our every need and delivered above and beyond! Special thanks to our hosts Sandra, Janine, Anel and Sam.

We were fortunate to have dinner in various locations - a private dinner in the wine cellar, at the private Safari suite, next to a fire in the TV lounge, in the Boma and out on the deck. Breakfast was held on the breakfast deck after returning from the morning game drive. Lunch was also served there, but we could simply not eat so much! The food was excellent and we regularly sent our compliments to the chefs.

Under the current promotions, all alcohol other than French Champagnes are included, and we were able to let out hair down.

Stuart was our guide for the duration of our stay, ably supported by Respect as our tracker. What an awesome team and we were spoiled with some amazing sightings and they made every effort to get us in position for photography too.

We have visited several game lodges in the past few months and Ulusaba has the best and most consistent covid procedures in place. Hand sanitisers everywhere, staff were masks at all times, guests in communal areas. Even your coffee and drinks stop snacks are separately packed for each couple. Our only frustration was with the perspex covid screens erected behind the guide as they take away a bit of the legroom and mist up early mornings. However, we understand their need in the current conditions. Luckily, as we were only 4 guests on our vehicle for most of our stay, we simply avoided that row of seats.

We could go on and on raving about Ulusaba and the memories made during our stay.

We will most definitely be back and would highly recommend Ulusaba.

Dear Les P, Wow what a wonderful review! Thank you so much for taking the time to share it with us. Safe to say it was an absolute honour to welcome you and your wife back to Ulusaba to celebrate your anniversary after such a special wedding six years ago. There’s nothing we love more than a celebration so it was pure magic to be a part of such a special trip for you both and your friends – who we loved meeting by the way! The team were truly touched to hear your kind words, none more so than Sandra, Janine, Anel, Sam and Stuart who were all thrilled to be personally mentioned! It was lovely to hear how you were able to capture your sightings and hope the photographs you have will be wonderful memories of your time with us, until you can visit again. As such seasoned travellers, it meant such a great deal to hear your comments about some of the additional measures we have put in place at Ulusaba; making sure our guests have complete peace of mind whilst still being able to enjoy the magic of a safari is our top priority. There’s no greater compliment to us than hearing that our guests would recommend us, so we really can’t thank you enough and we are already looking forward to seeing you again…. We’ll put some bubbly on ice! Until then… Have a magic day, Karl Langdon General Manager karl@ulusaba.virgin.com

We spent a brilliant 3 nights at Ulusaba Safari lodge last week. From the moment you arrive, it has the right balance between a luxury lodge and a personal stay, where the staff are all on familiar terms with you immediately.

We stayed in a River Room with a plunge pool which was beautifully decorated - amazing bedroom and bathroom and smart decking outside. The staff turn down your room regularly and also provide a free laundry service which was much needed after 2 weeks of travelling.

The food is delicious, and we were able to have our meals spread out over the lodge, our room, the treehouse and the wine cellar. The staff make every effort to cater for your every need.

The safari and the animal sightings surpassed every expectation. We did six drives, and on each of them we were able to get really close to so many animals. We felt every drive was provided a different experience with no repetitive moments. The weather wasn’t the best, but we didn’t feel like this affected our safari at all.

Overall a hugely positive experience at Ulusaba, which was magnified by Tom, Sipho and Corey. Tom – absolutely brilliant ranger, so knowledgeable about the wildlife, nature, eco systems etc, and very fun to spend time with. Sipho – amazing tracker with unbelievable talent for spotting animals. Corey – we couldn’t have wished for anyone better or more fun to share our jeep and meals with! We loved spending time with you all and thanks for a wonderful time!

Dear juliagC3866ZG Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review following your stay with us. We’re so glad to hear you had a great time. It’s always our priority to ensure guests feel welcome and at home during their stay with us from the moment they arrive, while going above and beyond to make sure every need is met. It means the world to us to hear that this is exactly how you felt during your stay. Thank you. We’re so glad you loved your River Room with plunge pool – the perfect place for a refreshing afternoon dip! I may be biased, but I agree – the food here is second to none, and it’s great to hear you enjoyed dining in a variety of locations around the lodge. It’s incredible to hear how much you enjoyed the twice daily game drives, and we loved seeing you throw yourselves into the wonderful world of South African safari. To hear that we exceeded your expectations is music to our ears. We’re sorry you didn’t have great weather during your stay, but so glad to hear that this didn’t take anything away from the experience itself. We’ve shared your lovely comments with Tom and Sipho too and they’re beaming with pride– I couldn’t agree more, they are true experts and really are exceptional at what they do. I’m so pleased you had the pleasure of adventuring with them. Please do come and see us again soon, we’ll be waiting with the bubbly on ice! We went back for our 6th visit this time to Safari lodge. And despite all the precautions, they did not interfere with our amazing visit. The staff are wonderful, all the precautions were managed very discreetly by them so we knew that we were safe, being elderly this was important for us. We brought friends on a first visit and they were blown away by the experience they can't wait to return. I do hope that many more South Africans will take the opportunity, with this special rate for us in SA, to visit particularly since we cannot as yet travel abroad. This is such a great opportunity to enjoy the best SA has to offer! We cannot wait to make our 7th visit much better value that going to the UK. Thank you all at Safari Lodge for making this trip so special as always, to Sandra, Janine, Corrine (for the amazing cuisine) and of course our rangers Tom and Sipho (spectacular game viewing) and not to forget Benjamin and other staff who served our great food and wines! lots of love to you all and keep well.

There are not enough adjectives to describe just how wonderful this place is! We spent 3 nights thus time and were lucky enough to get upgraded to the spectacular Safari Suite with plunge pool, boma, garden and enormous terrace as well as spectacular living room bedroom and bathrooms. As great as the room was its the staff that make Ulusaba, from the greeting at the private airport to house keeping everyone is super friendly and just cannot do enough for you. Food, wine and drinks are bountiful and of great quality, I defy anyone not to put on weight. We celebrated by son and wife’s birthday and the team provided a memorable experience, presents, champagne breakfast, cake and traditional singing.
The game drives are amazing, both ranger (Liam) and tracker (David) were awesome. You are guaranteed close encounters and spectacular sightings, the big 5 is almost a given.
It’s not cheap but building life long memories never are. We will be back!

Set on a hill, with great views. This was our 3rd safari lodge on this trip. We found the staff and surrounding very corporate, in a luxury lodge. One member of staff a little too over friendly !!! and the ranger more interested in his own personal safari tour, than his customers experience. Good food and were able to help ourselves to drinks when needed. Dinners were eating all together, on one large table, which was fun meeting others. We enjoyed our 1st two lodges more, which were more rustic, set out in the bush, with the wild animals and the staff were genuinely friendly

It's been two months since we traveled here and every single day I have thought about it and started to write a review, but genuinely anything I put down just can't come close to describing the magic of our stay here. I really can't put into words how truly unbelievable this place is. Not only is it beyond beautiful and seeing all of the animals so up close and personal exceeded every expectation, but I can't say enough about the service and the staff.
The staff truly went over and beyond at every turn. We genuinely felt like we had a personal friendship with each one of them. How they can make you feel so welcome and taken care of is beyond belief. Thank you so much to our ranger Kyle and our guide Kayne who made every drive so much fun and unique. It was genuinely so sad to leave because we honestly miss them so much! We genuinely feel that we've met people we want to keep in touch with forever. How often can you say that on a 4 day trip?!
We celebrated our honeymoon here with them, and every single staff member knew us all by name, knew our favorite drinks and had them waiting. The food was the most amazing meals every single day and the wine pairing was so delicious. I even commented one time to the chef on how unbelievable the soup he made was and the next day at breakfast, he delivered his handwritten recipe for it.
One night at the bar, I mentioned to my husband how good an espresso martini sounded and Vickers overheard me, looked up a recipe as he hadn't made it before, found all the ingredients and perfected it. It was so beyond thoughtful and so delicious! He even worked on it throughout the next day and had one chilled and waiting for me the next night!
We also had the most amazing massages we have ever experienced. We ended up having to book a second one for the next day because it was so amazing!! The staff have magic hands!
We had a beautiful private dinner in the cellar and came back to our room with rose petals everywhere, it was truly the most amazing celebration we could have asked for.
When we were leaving, I had mentioned to Vickers how cool the new water bottles were - the new shipment were slightly different than the ones we had and sure enough, he went and found two more to give us as a parting gift. We use them all the time!
Once again, nothing I could ever say could relay our experience here. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This trip will always hold such a special place for us. We hope to see you again soon!

We spent 3 nights in this exeptionally good lodge. We had the elephant room which was more than just beautiful. Believe us, if we say that this place is awesome. We had a very warm welcome, all the staff is kind, friendly and will do the extra step if you need it. We had some problems finding the right way to get there, so, if you travel by car, we reccomend to call them before you start your journey. Big thanks to Chris who helped us out of our situation😉.
This place is a little paradise. The food couldn't be better, the wines very unique. You can feel, that the entire staff has the passion which is needed to make ulasaba very special. We will definatly come again, next time by flight. What really made our experience unforgettable were the game drives. Steve and James are the best! So much knowledge, so much love and respect for the wildlife. we saw the big 5 in 3 drives, which is quite an achievment. Thanks guys, thanks Steve and James, thank you all at ulasaba for making our stay unforgettable.

Ulusaba rock lodge and staff produced one of the best safari experiences we have ever had. We were 2 families, one from the UK and the other South African. We, the South african family, stayed in the Rock suite with a large ensuite room and a small ensuite room for the 3kids. Two on a double bed and one on a bunk bed. The rooms were luxurious with lovely views, a outdoor deck, sitting room and fridges with hot, alcoholic and soft drinks and snacks which we could enjoy throughout the day. The fridges were stocked up twice a day however there was really no time to sit in the room. Erick and Mango our guide and tracker were excellent from the start of the trip till the very end. Warm, welcoming, and with a great knowledge on the area and wildlife. Having studied Zoology I know a thing or two about wildlife but Eric, having grown up in the area, surpassed whatever I thought I knew giving us interesting facts about the lion prides in the area and the history of the male lions and behaviours. Game sightings were incredible, we saw the big five at least twice during our two days and even a leopard cub which they went to great trouble finding. Our photos are incredible, its hard to believe we were only there for 2 days. When we were not game viewing we were eating the most incredible meals. Anel, a most welcoming hostess, along with Patience and Gugu and all serving staff ensured we had a bespoke gin preceding our meals and really great wines during our meals. The views from this lodge are incredible, my 10 year old son was kept busy with binoculars trying to spot animals from the cliff top view. The kids were catered for with their own menu and to be honest whatever we asked for we received from special requests for dinner to particular animals were looking for. Overall, it is not cheap but is worth every penny. Thank you Ulusaba for a memorable trip.

Dear @336lisa, What a delightful review! It's the greatest compliment to know that Ulusaba provided you with one of the best safari experiences ever, and it sounds as though The Rock Suite was the perfect base for your family adventure. We do take pride in the little touches, like the well-stocked fridges, to keep you fuelled throughout the day. But it’s our extraordinary team and their amazing service that brings the magic to every Ulusaba experience. Erick and Mango, your guide and tracker, are true gems; their warmth and knowledge of the area and its wildlife truly bring the safari to life. The food at Ulusaba is often a highlight for our guests, and I’m thrilled that Anel, Patience, Gugu, and the rest of the team helped to create some unforgettable dining moments. It's our pleasure to cater to your every request, from special dinner requests to tracking down specific animals. We understand that extraordinary experiences are priceless, and we're thrilled that you found your Ulusaba adventure worth every penny. Thank you for choosing us for your safari, and we can't wait to welcome you back for more memorable moments in the African wilderness. Back here for 3rd time as a family group of 4. We stayed in elephant rooms 2 & 3. This was the first visit for our daughter (belated 40th due to covid) and at a different time of year to our previous visits. Standards are as high as ever and the staff just can’t do enough to make your stay special. Eric & Sipho, our ranger and tracker, were incredible and we saw all the big 5 and magnificent 7, some many times over. We even saw the elusive cheetah. Genene, Safari Lodge Manager and hosts Patience, Mpho and Danielle, were so welcoming and helpful. Waiters Ruel, Bangi, Brineth & Douglas were very attentive and efficient. The food was of excellent standard, catering well for my husband’s gluten free requirements and my vegetarian daughter - a big thank you to all the chefs. Thank you to all the staff (can’t mention everyone here). The tree house viewing area overlooking the dam is amazing. We saw elephants playing in the water, hippos, crocodiles and many other animals whilst sitting in comfort with a cold drink. This was our favourite spot after lunch before going on the late afternoon Safari drive.

There are a lot steps but most of the day is sitting in a truck. Not very strenuous. No medical care near by if you needed something.

Hi Paula, Our trip to South Africa was coordinated by a travel planner who specializes in South African tours. She gave us a guide on providing tips throughout our travels which, as it turned out, was quite different than the protocol in the US. The Tipping Guidelines provided by Ulusaba would be your best resource, I believe.
