When we were met at the airport by our guide, Liam and our tracker, David, we knew immediately that we were going to have the time of our lives. The wealth of knowledge and personal stories that Liam and David shared with us, along with the countless encounters with the animals on our game drives, made this trip better than we ever could have imagined. Staying in Cliff Lodge with our family, we had the most spectacular view from high above the landscape. The staff, Jeannine and our chef, Neil, truly made us feel at home while living in luxury. They accommodated every dietary restriction and shared countless stories as well. We were there over New Years Eve and were treated to a party under tents in the bush, complete with a theme (masquerade) and surprise entertainment - traditional African dances from a local student troupe - great food and such a unique setting. We will never forget it. The fact that Ulusaba had their own airstrip made coming and going a flawless endeavor - just watching Liam and David wave goodbye to us as we took off brought tears to our eyes to have to admit that our time in Africa was over... we'd go back in a second!

Dear Wendybea, Thank you so much for your lovely review. We couldn’t agree more about Liam and David being so knowledgeable, they really have a wonderful chemistry together and we often hear from guests how they were entertained with their stories. New Year is a very special time to spend at Ulusaba and we like to pull out all the stops for our guests and so we’re over the moon to hear that you enjoyed this experience. We’ll be sure to pass on your lovely comments to all the staff, especially Jeannine and Neil. We hope to welcome you back to Ulusaba again. As returning guests there is always a tiny fear that expectations are set to high, but when it comes to Ulusaba and the team they always manage to exceed any and all expectations over and over again. It is actually difficult to find words - great enough- to describe the amazing, magic and overwhelming experience it is to stay at Ulusaba Rock Lodge and the Game Drives and Busch Adventures they provide for their guest.

The Rock Lodge is the most unique place to stay, with eagle views over Sabi Sands and its wilderness activity, the whole lodge and rooms are in absolute mint condition (no sign of lock down) everything is appointed for top comfort and with guests in focus. The service is immaculate and to perfection when it comes to balance personal and relaxed fun with privacy and integrity. Ulusaba is truly above 5-stars in every way possible.

Helpful tip; All rooms at Rock Lodge are amazing but staying in one of the Makwela Suits is an absolute dream, the view, the private deck with outdoor shower and plunge pool, the bathrooms…etc etc it is just fabulous. You should absolutely opt for a Makwela suits if available.

This time around we had the great pleasure to drive with Brandon and John – the most experienced, skilful and knowledgeable guys that really put their heart and soul into giving us the most incredible game drives with stunning wildlife viewings and lots of laughter and fun too. We love you guys!

Dear saltis, On behalf of myself and the whole team at Ulusaba, a truly heartfelt thank you. We are completely blown away by your kind words and incredibly touched at you taking the time to share some of your highlights and recommendations from your trip. We always say you can never grow tired of spending time at Ulusaba, so it means the world to hear that was the case for you. We just love hearing how much you enjoyed adventuring on the twice-daily game drives, before retiring to Rock Lodge. I’ve shared your comments with Brandon and John who are simply beaming. They pride themselves on completely immersing guests in the wonders of the South African bush, helping to create memories that will last a lifetime, and it’s certainly great fun with guests like you in tow. Thank you too, for your review of Rock Lodge; the views really are quite spectacular from the Makwela Suite and we’re thrilled that everything was to your liking. It sounds like you really made the most of your time with us – it’s such an experience taking a shower or dip in the pool surrounded by nature isn’t it. We can’t thank you enough for your wonderful feedback, it really does mean the world to us to hear when we get things right and we very much look forward to hosting you again soon. Another fabulous trip to Ulusaba, our ninth, and another already booked for September. It’s hard to relate any more superlatives than we have for the last eight visits, so suffice to say again that this is a trip you should not miss. Everything is organised to the last detail from the moment you step off the ‘plane and walk up the steps to the “arrival hall” at Ulusaba. This time we were guided by Brogan and his tracker Sipho, and Henry and his tracker George, all four of them absolutely brilliant and great fun to be with. As always, every drive is different so don’t be tempted to have a lie-in and miss one, you will regret it!

The room is kept spotless, and the laundry comes back within 24 hours, sometimes faster. Meals are very special and if you ate everything that was offered you would not be able to walk to the Landrover for the drives. If you like a tipple or two this is the place for you as the huge supply of drinks in your room is topped up as soon as one is “sampled”. The bar in the main lounge is always open!

Of course, the reason for visiting Ulusaba is not to eat and drink or get your clothes laundered, it is to see the wildlife. If you’ve never seen a leopard before this is the place to go and we were lucky enough see the famous resident Basile’s three month old cub literally inches from the Landrover, completely relaxed. You will see the Big 5 during your visit and on one occasion we saw all Five within two hours. Couple that with cheetah, wild dogs and hyena with cubs, and it’s difficult to imagine what else you would want.

Thanks Ulusaba and we’ll see you all again in September.

From the minute you touch down in your private plane and are escorted to the small reception you think it cannot get better, but out comes the iced champagne that indicates it does.
The drive to Rock Lodge is a short 10 minutes as you ascend up the very steep hill to your luxury accommodation.
In the main dinning room / bar the staff were on hand to greet us, with further iced glasses of champagne before being show to our lodge, Rock Lodge 1 which sits at the far end, with absolutely magnificent views of the game reserve. The room was stylish with an extra large king bed, a fridge which was filled with our preferred drinks preferences. A on suite bathroom and shower which again open to wonderful views.
Our first ever safari we were driven by Pete and the tracker Respect, I think that afternoon we saw more wild animals than we did at Whipsnade Zoo.
The weather was very kind to us, allowing for a brilliant sundowner stop.

Back at the lodge dinner was on the terrace and there was a buzz in the air from the adventure experienced by all the guests. Drinks were flowing as the evening meal was served, again of excellent quality.
All the staff seemed to pull together and nothing appeared to be to much trouble.
The safaris themselves are limited to 6 guests per jeep and start early, coffee is served both before and after when you have a great choice of breakfast. The rest of the morning you are feel to laze around or sunbath by the small pool. Lunch is at 13.00 and again there is a great choice.

Afternoon drives go out around 16.30 and last about 3-4 hours, Peter our guide was so passionate and highly experienced in getting us up close to the animals.

The memories we take away from this will last forever, Thanks to all at the lodge from little Jack the Intern to Respect & Peter for game drivers.

From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, our trip to Ulusaba was one of the best experiences of my life. The initial welcome at the airstrip, the short drive to the Rock Lodge, the welcome we received there, the steps down to the lounge and the views that greeted us - just astonishing. After the tour, we were shown to our room which had the same views, a level of comfort we would become very used to (!) and everything we needed.

With 2 nights here and 2 nights at the Safari Lodge (hence this review is Part I), we had the full range of food, experiences and care. I won't pick anyone out in the Lodge as providing a higher level of service than others because everyone was fantastic.

Having to leave here after 2 nights felt an absolute wrench. With our guide (Andrew) we walked down to the second part of our Ulusaba stay, experiencing the walk through the bush for the first time.

In summary, this is a special place, run by special people who really understand how to look after their guests. We will be back.

Well this was our 3rd trip to Ulusaba and I have to say it was every bit as good as the other two. It’s not just the game drives (thanks to Liam and David who were great fun and so knowledgeable) its the whole package, every member of staff bends over backwards to make sure you have the best time possible. Special mention for Patience, 20yrs service coming up and was a real diamond.

Rock Lodge is a truly incredible place, sat looking over the Sabi Sands reserve. Every morning we woke up to the most amazing sunrises, and with the view we got from our room watching the elephants and other big game as well, it's the best place to be.

I apologise now as my words I'm sure won't encapsulate how great of a time we had there. You must go!

We loved every moment of it, it's a holiday we'll never forget.

The Game Drives were wow!!! as we were guided by the brilliantly charismatic duo of Steve and James. Their tracking skills are incredible to witness and their knowledge of the bush is unquestionable. Every drive was very different to the next we didn't want to miss one. The morning and evening stops for a coffee or wine are also something very special and often filled with laughs.

The Room we stayed in was gorgeous, with lots of space, well decorated, and kept incredibly clean. The Deck with the pool and outdoor shower overlooking the Sabi Sands never gets old. We always made the most of that by enjoying lunch order to our room.

The entire team from Management, Anel, Danielle, Matt to the chefs, to the cleaning staff, were at the top of their game. I haven't had this level of service anywhere before. Everyone was really friendly & attentive, we were very well accommodated with everything we asked for it was impressive.

The food and the wine selection were just as good, especially at the Boma meal where we were treated by the Team to a special evening. Spontaneous evenings and events like this helped make this trip. We enjoyed this with other guests at the lodge with the best traditional braai, and an amazing musical performance by the staff.

The friendly atmosphere we experienced created by the staff and the guests together is something we really enjoyed and is something you don't get at many other hotels.

We can't wait to make a return visit.

Thank you!!!

Dear Christian H, Thank you, thank you, thank you. What an incredible 5* review. We are absolutely thrilled to read such lovely comments following your stay with us. The sunrises from Rock Lodge are really spectacular, aren’t they? We’re so glad you were able to experience this during your stay. There’s something so special about viewing all the wildlife from the comfort of your room, especially the elephants and big game. It really is tough to beat! Steve and James are just amazing. They have incredible knowledge of the region and of all the wildlife. We absolutely agree - no two game drives are ever the same, each is unique – but they are always magical. We’re glad you had fun on your drives, and we couldn’t agree more - nothing beats a morning coffee or a sundowner in the African bush! We’ve told Steve and James about your kind comments, and they’re beaming from ear to ear to hear you had such a great time on your drives with them. To hear you’ve never experienced this level of service elsewhere is a huge compliment. We’ve passed your feedback on to the whole team – and they are absolutely thrilled to hear what a great time you had during your stay. I might be biased, but our team here are truly world class, and work incredibly hard to ensure our guests have a great stay – it’s music to our ears to hear when we get it right. It's brilliant to hear you enjoyed our food and wine here too, and our spontaneous evenings and events are part of the magic here at Ulusaba. We love to surprise and delight our guests, and we’re thrilled to hear you loved your special evening with us. Thank you again for such a lovely review – and please do come and visit soon – we already can’t wait for your return. Have a magic day, Karl Langdon General Manager karl@ulusaba.virgin.com

This was our 2nd trip to Ulusaba Rock Lodge and we’re so glad we did so. Everything about our stay, from start to finish, was perfect.

The lodge itself is beautifully set on top of a small mountaintop. Giving you jaw dropping views of the Ulusaba landscape. Watching the elephants and lion packs move whilst eating breakfast and lunch is just incredible.

The lodge staff are very pleasant and helpful. Always taking care of you and attaining to anything you need. My wife is a vegetarian and so they were always making sure they were catering to our needs.

The drives are spectacular and were made even better by our ranger and tracker, Kyle and Conny. This was our 2nd time riding with Kyle and we couldn’t be happier to have had him again. He really is the best in the bush and hands down the best ranger we’ve ever had. Kyle and Conny, thank you so so much for making our time so special.

The food and drink at Ulusaba is fantastic. As are the facilities and rooms. My wife got a massage with Doreen and has said that hands down it is the best massage she has ever had. And she loves a massage! The same was said by other guests staying at the lodge, so it certainly wasn’t a one off.

Again, a big thank you to the whole team at Ulusaba Rock Lodge for making our stay so special. We’re so happy we came back to spend our honeymoon with you. It was perfect.

Thank you to Kyle, Conny, Doreen, Godfrey, Patience, Lauren and Enel (apologies for any misspellings! We will make sure we get them right the next time we’re back 😉)

Dear marklinnett10, We are so pleased you came back to visit us again and are completely honoured that we were able to be a part of your honeymoon celebrations. It was our absolute pleasure to host you and it means the world to read your comments, thank you so much. Hearing you describe Rock Lodge and how magical you found it, is incredibly special. I may be biased, but the views really are quite spectacular and it’s impossible not to feel fully immersed in the wonders of South Africa when waking up in that setting. Even better that you were joined by some unexpected guests while enjoying your breakfast. It sounds like you really made the most of your time at Ulusaba, striking the perfect balance between relaxation and adventure. We love hearing how much you enjoyed the twice-daily game drives, expertly led by the brilliant Kyle and Conny, before sitting back and enjoying some pampering with Doreen. I’ve shared your feedback with all three and they are over the moon to receive such wonderful personal recognition, thank you. It certainly wasn’t hard to be pleasant and helpful with guests as lovely as you, but we’re ever so grateful for your kind words. Thank you again for letting us be a part of your honeymoon celebrations – it really was an honour to make sure every aspect of your stay was memorable for all the right reasons, and we very much hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future. We stayed at Rock lodge for 4 nights. Upon arrival we were greeted by Eric and Mango who were to be our ranger and tracker throughout our stay. They welcomed us with drinks which was much needed after a long 24hr journey!

The Rock Cliff lodge team exceeded our expectations and we received the best customer service, nothing was a trouble. I can probably say it’s the best place I’ve ever stayed where hospitality was at its best. Mr Branson should be proud of what he has achieved here.

The whole team work so hard to make your stay unforgettable whilst being so down to earth. A special HUGE thank you to Matt the manager at the lodge who went out of his way to help make my 40th birthday one I’ll never forget. I’ve never been so spoilt on my birthday, with a couples massage, lunch at the waterhole, dinner in the wine cellar and a birthday cake!

Each day we had two game drives with Eric and Mango who are the best in their field and worked so hard to track the animals. They even managed to show us all the big five in one drive on my birthday! I couldn’t have asked for better people to share some rare and emotional experiences with when seeing animals in their natural habitat. By the end of trip they became our friends.

The Rock Cliff lodge has unspolit views across Sabi Sands and in our opinion is better than the Safari lodge due to this. However Safari lodge you will get to see the animals outside your room window!

Matt and the team organised for us to visit the Safari lodge for afternoon tea and on our last night we all joined the them for drinks, Braai and traditional African dancers. Which was a great end to our stay and a nice touch.

I can say enough about Ulusaba other than they have got it so right and the whole team do their job to the best standards. A lot of other hotels/lodges could learn a lot from them.

Thank you, until we meet again team Ulusaba…..

July is in the dry season and the risk is minimal. We didn't take any tablets on either of our visits in late July and early August and had no problems at all. Ulusaba is brilliant and you will have a fantastic time, the only downside is you'll be so sad to leave it! Happy Birthday in advance!

Yes as far as I know that’s available but on the ground you’re up close and personal with the animals. I’ve seen balloons in the distance, I’m not sure if they fly over the reserve.
