Unfortunately not a great experience. I booked this place to celebrate my husband's birthday because the pictures looked beautiful, and we wanted to try something different (usually going to Walkersons when in the area). Upon arrival there was no-one at reception. The lady behind the bar rushed to show us our room and then rushed back without really having explained anything. I never got her name the whole weekend, in fact it was a long weekend and seemed fully booked, yet I only saw 3 staff members the entire weekend. No housekeeping services on the Sunday (we stayed Sat and Sun night). For the price paid (we booked a superior room) it's unacceptable that the room wasn't cleaned once during our stay.
The superior rooms are closer to the restaurant than the cheaper rooms, so these have less privacy! People walk past your room on the way to the restaurant so you can't leave the curtains open to enjoy the view when in bed. No bar fridge in the rooms, or shower gel or shower caps. Basic coffee making facilities. You get 5/6 pieces of wood and need to pay for the rest if you want more wood. The rooms are cold but there is no aircon or heater so you need to keep the fire going, but pay extra to do so. Food was ok, very little breakfast options, and there are no wine options except for 1 house white or house red wine. Once again this is what you might expect from a 3 star hotel but definitely not a place where you pay almost R4000 per room per night. I was even told a cappuccino at breakfast will be an additional charge. The few staff members seemed to try their best but wasn't exceptionally friendly, except for a man who I assumed might have been the manager but never introduced himself as such. All this is a huge pity because the place has great potential, being in a lovely setting. All activities also come at an extra cost (bikes or rowboat). Unfortunately we won't be back. I don't usually leave reviews but if there was a couple available on this property perhaps I would have been able to avoid the disappointment that was Dunkeld East Hotel.

We only went for dinner so cannot comment on the accommodation The view and restaurant is beautful Very tastefully decorated. Lovely atmosphere and the staff were very attentive friendly and efficient. Strangely though there’s no wine available in the restaurant When I asked the waitress she said we could have white or red house wine but had no idea from where it came. The red house wine was good though. The menu is small but caters for everyone and the food was very good and well presented. It arrived quickly and was exactly what we ordered We had to ask for serviettes and side plates but other than that I would certainly recommend this restaurant It’s in such a beautiful setting.
