We had a great stay at the Old Transvaal Inn. Very private, neat and an ideal location to stay in when visiting Dullstroom (we were able to park the car and walk to every shop in town). Was a bit disappointed that there was no reception area or personal communication from duty manager/manager and that there were no cleaning staff on site (Some guests had take-away lunch on one of the tables in front of our door and left all their trash on the table. This was still there later in the evening when we returned and eventually the next morning we decided to clean it up). Would also have been nice to have had some "light room service" during our 3 day stay, just to empty out our small trash can in the room as this was overflowing on the 2nd day. This is where a reception area would come in handy, just to ask for a new trash bag, etc.
The inn is very affordable and we will definitely return to Old Transvaal Inn.

Bedrooms need more / bigger carpets next to the beds and also in the bathroom / toilet area.
Munroe was extremely helpful and fitted us in even though we had not booked . The location was perfect.
The old Dullstroom Inn / Hotel he sent us to for dinner was really great and we enjoyed our stay.

Recently stayed overnight in two rooms. Located just off the main road, it's surprisingly quiet in the evenings and the rooms, although rather rustic and a bit dated, are large, neat, clean and comfortable, and there are plenty of blankets for the chilly evenings. I was particularly grateful for the candle and matches provided as there was Stage 4 load shedding which kicked in just as we got back to the rooms after our evening meal.

Just to note that if you're staying mid-week or out of tourist season, it can be a bit tricky to find a nice restaurant to have dinner as a lot of eateries seem to close before 6pm. As other reviewers have said, it would also have been really nice to have a B&B option.

If money is tight, this is the place to stay. The walls are paper thin - you can hear conversations in the adjacent rooms. Our toilet seat was split right in the middle, front. Asked for a replacement, eventually got one that didn't fit. Thus the whole seat was loose - you better aim well when you sit down and sit still too. There are no hangers in the cupboard, so we couldn't hang up our clothes.

The description for our stay mentioned "bed and BREAKFAST" - I'm still waiting for my breakfast. The owner's wife had a very nonchalant reply that it was an old advertisement and that they've been trying many times to have it fixed. She didn't offer a refund. At the very least I expect a R70 per person per day refund for the breakfast I didn't get because it wrecked havoc with our budget.

The town's water has a light brown colour, thus take your own drinking water along.

On the upside, it is close to most businesses and you can simply walk to all the places. The beds are comfy and there's a panel heater and fireplace in the room to keep it warm.

The Old Transvaal Inn is a basic but clean, pleasant and comfortable hotel to stay. Well located as well, near all the places to visit. The breakfasts served was excellent and well prepared, good value for money. On the negative side, the hotel restaurant closes early at 16h30 to 17h00.

Not the best stay but then you get what you pay for. This is more like a motel. No reception area - had to phone the owner to figure out where we will sleep. Two separate rooms for the family. Parking is outside and no guard present. Beds are the worst. I woke up with a sore back. Could feel every spring inside the mattress. Breakfast is not value for money - was tasty but very small portions and very exspensive. Wont stay here again.

I must admit I was apprehensive about spending 3 nights at the Transvaal Inn in Dullstroom but from the time that I arrived till I left I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and comfort that I received. Let me be honest it is not the Ritz but it suited my needs for a fishing weekend. It wa sreal value for money. Thank You. JJ

We were welcomed warmly by the owner and he went out of his way to recommend restaurants and show us where to go for a lovey walk up the mountain at the dam . Our rooms were pleasant and VERY inexpensive. The property is well situated in Dullstroom, near to the restaurants and whatever is on offer. Only problem was that my daughter's room had been sprayed with something weird that affected her breathing - but this will be sorted out, we are assured.

This is the third time I have stayed over on business and am only writing a review now for numerous reasons. I can safely say that I previously stayed with little expectations other than simply having a roof over my head while in Dullstroom on business. Last week I slept a night and stayed in room number 2. The room was very clean and very comfortable for the price you pay per night. It is also strategically placed on the main road so walking to nearby attractions is very convenient. The Inn is also hidden behind another building so you never hear the heavy traffic passing through the town. I can highly recommend this establishment as an overnight stay, or a extended period while exploring the area.

Charming and old school. But, no reception upon arrival, we had to phone to ask about the rooms since owner didnt warn us beforehand there is no reception. No security, i had sleepless nights worrying about our car and trailer. Beds are thin, hard and very uncomfortable. Breakfast is tasty but way too expensive for what you get. Room was clean but no fireplace, we almost died from cold. Room has small windows with a thin piece of curtain, the sunlight wakes you up at 5am.
