If you are just traveling through on trip like we were, The Old Transvaal Inn is the perfect accommodation, affordable, location is great and has all the basics. I will book there again going forward.
Our stay in room 4 had everything we needed for a comfortable room to retreat to in the cold winter after enjoying the town. The fire place is a game changer with a comfortable double bed and a cosy room. The room gets lovely morning sun and has a nice view.
Basic, affordable accommodation but very comfortable, neat and clean. Was quiet during our stay. Ideal location, walking distance from almost everything in Dullstroom. Just very cold (small windows, little sunshine), so people should try to get a room with fireplace during late autumn / winter. Was very cosy with fireplace. We loved staying there and will definitely book there again! Thank you.
We stayed over on a Friday night on the way to a further destination. Fanwell met us and helped carry our bags. It was very comfortable and had almost everything we needed. We did however need more dry firewood! ;)
Room was nice and clean. Bathroom need some upgrade. No warm water, has to put on geyser by myself outside door. Nice with fireplace inside room. well situated near all shops in town. Thank you for coffee and tea in room.
Our room was basic, for the price what I expected, we had warm water and thank goodness for the fireplace although more wood would have been appreciated, no luxury items, no cleaning of rooms, just bed with blanket and down duvet, cement floor basic furniture, only stayed two days
If money is tight, this is the place to stay. The walls are paper thin - you can hear conversations in the adjacent rooms. Our toilet seat was split right in the middle, front. Asked for a replacement, eventually got one that didn't fit. Thus the whole seat was loose - you better aim well when you sit down and sit still too. There are no hangers in the cupboard, so we couldn't hang up our clothes. The description for our stay mentioned "bed and BREAKFAST" - I'm still waiting for my breakfast. The owner's wife had a very nonchalant reply that it was an old advertisement and that they've been trying many times to have it fixed. She didn't offer a refund. At the very least I expect a R70 per person per day refund for the breakfast I didn't get because it wrecked havoc with our budget. The town's water has a light brown colour, thus take your own drinking water along. On the upside, it is close to most businesses and you can simply walk to all the places. The beds are comfy and there's a panel heater and fireplace in the room to keep it warm. …
We had a wonderful stay at the Old Transvaal Inn. For affordable, clean and close to town accommodation you could not ask for more. We will definitely be staying there again. Thank you Munro for a wonderful stay.
Rustic rooms very reasonably priced right in the center of town Chose Old Transvaal Inn as they provide various options in rooms single, double beds etc. Very well suited for families as well as single travelers
Recently stayed overnight in two rooms. Located just off the main road, it's surprisingly quiet in the evenings and the rooms, although rather rustic and a bit dated, are large, neat, clean and comfortable, and there are plenty of blankets for the chilly evenings. I was particularly grateful for the candle and matches provided as there was Stage 4 load shedding which kicked in just as we got back to the rooms after our evening meal. Just to note that if you're staying mid-week or out of tourist season, it can be a bit tricky to find a nice restaurant to have dinner as a lot of eateries seem to close before 6pm. As other reviewers have said, it would also have been really nice to have a B&B option.
