From the moment we contacted the establishment, we were received well and assisted with so much friendliness. The same service on arrival (even allowed us to check in earlier).. The room where we stayed is neat but decor, furniture and linen needs a bit of sprucing up should you prefer a modern feel. The deal we took also provided for a full body couples massage the next morning after breakfast. Late in the afternoon, we had to depart and could manage to leave the keys with one of the ladies at the spa. Everything worked out well and we can happily report that this is a value for money B&B with their team most certainly very helpful and friendly. in line with true South African hospitality.

On the plus side - the staff were welcoming, kind and helpful, and the rooms were very comfortable.
Items that need to be considered going forward:
The owners were never seen or heard from during the entire stay. If you are running a guesthouse, it is your responsibility to check on guests and not leave everything up to your employees.
We were never advised in advance by the guesthouse of external meal arrangements until we physically checked in. Breakfasts were served at the venue, albeit with no choice of meal. At no point were we asked about any specific meal requirements, e.g. vegetarian options. Lunches and dinners were at an external venue with limited meal options and for a nominal value in town - had this been communicated in advance, we may have planned the trip accordingly.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Certain areas required attention, though. The cross beams were dirty and wiped poorly. The area above the shower contained mould from exposure to dampness and steam.
No communications have been received from the owners at check-in, during the stay and since departure. As a result, these matters and concerns could have been flagged and addressed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and we thank you for the hospitality!

Your beautiful spa room, creams used and friendliness of the ladies were lovely and much appreciated.

Catherine was phenomenal! She truly made every aspect wonderful - from welcoming us, showing us around, neatening up our room, to making the delicious breakfasts and tending to the fire. We were indeed very happy with her service.

Our room was very big and offered privacy.
We had relaxing walks in the garden and could come and go as we pleased.

thank you everyone at Highland Rose for an amazing weekend. Everyone was so helpful and even my Service Dog was welcome. The breakfast was very good and so was the massages. I highly recommend Highland Rose to anyone who want to stay in luxury and only pay one star rates.

The accommodation wasn't quite what we expected. The furniture could do with some updating and a small milk in the fridge would be nice to have with the coffee and tea provided. A mobile gas heater would be nice as it was very cold on the weekend we were there and the bathroom was so big that it didn't stay very warm while bathing.
We didn't see the owners/managers and weren't quite sure where breakfast would be served or where the massages would be. Overall, the property has great potential but needs some attention to cleaning and details.

We had a very nice relaxing and chilled weekend away from home, staying at highlands rose country house.it was nothing fancy but clean country style accomodation, breakfast was good but it was a set menu and we being vegetarians got the same food for the 2 days.juice, yoghurt, cereals, plain toast , tasty mushrooms and onions, cheese and a slice of tomato.
the place could do with some painting of floors on the area outside the dining room. The gardens need some maintenance but then with covid nothing much is happening these days.
The duck and trout restaurant was very good for us for lunch and dinners.

Good day,
My rating of 1 is due to lack of owner not taking time to talk to guest and find out if all is well. The room was clean however the mirror in bathroom is broken, the towel hanger is loose. The handshower fitting was loose and the floor all wet after you showered. The bathroom door is stuck when you tried closing the door. The bath water takes for ever to drain when you pull the plug.
There is no summer bedding available only heavy goose feather duvet and blankets. When asked for a fan it was indicated that they don't have fans! A small fan was sent later at night with security guard. No matches available in the room.
Only plus points was the bed was comfortable and the breakfast provided was good.

I would suggest that management look after their patrons interest and not hide behind closed doors.

Dullstroom is very cold but there was no electric blankets OR WiFi. The curtains were hanging down in places and there was no side mats next to the bed, the wall heater had a large crack in it(it did work however).
The first night the bath water was scolding hot, the next night freezing cold, so we tried to have a shower only to find the shower head was broken and fell apart when we turned on the water!
Breakfast was a quiet affair as we were never asked what we wanted it just got put in front of us without a word spoken, when we asked the housekeeper a question she just shook her head indicating she didn't know. On parking inside the property we had to manually open & close the large driveway gate as it had no motor and was not lockable (if it was we had no key or instructions on how to lock it?)
We did however enjoy the heated bathroom floor and the massage (which was included in the price)
It was my girlfriends birthday treat -- a very different one

We had a couples stay with a Massage treatment and I can say that it was really amazing.
I love the fire places in the rooms and the private parking entrance in front of the rooms,
The garden is absolutely stunning and gives a very tranquil feel to the Lodge.

The service was excellent and the breakfast was really yummy.

Overall it was an amazing experience and would most certainly recommend for couples!

No quality check done. TV not working, dressing table chair broken, tiles broken next to fire place, bedding to small for bed (fitted sheet for double bed but it is a queen size bed), electric blanket not working, bed head rest is dirty (you can see the 2 areas where people are resting their heads to watch TV. Service is pathetic (Phoned and whats up miss Oberholzer with no reply - only replied the Monday) What supposed to be a nice weekend for my husband's birthday the Saturday but we enjoyed his birthday at home rather than staying at The Higland Rose.

Response from Lydia O, Marketing at The Highland Rose Country House & Serenity Spa
Responded 21 Jul 2021
Before your arrival (when I double-checked if you were still coming through - because of the lockdown) I explicitly told you that the TVs do not work. You even told me that you will be bringing a laptop. It was the same call during which you told me that your husband won’t let a black masseuse touch him. I should have known at this point already what kind of guest you are. When I spoke to you on Friday evening, you did not mention any other issues except the TV not working (which you knew long before your arrival). You continued to ask me to fix the TV even after I told you that there wasn’t anything more I could do. As mentioned before - when you called on Saturday morning I answered but could not hear you. I then went to speak to you directly only to find that you had left the guesthouse before breakfast and your pre-booked massages. I’m truly sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. None of our other recent guests have complained about the alleged issues you mentioned.
