Field and Stream is 9 km on the Tonteldoos Road, outside of Dullstroom on the Mpumalanga Highland grasslands. The farm is ideal for couples, families or groups wanting to escape the business of city life. Whether you enjoy trout fishing in dams or on a river, walking, hiking, mountain biking, bird watching or just relaxing, the farm offers you the opportunity to relax and recharge. The farm also has a clay pigeon shooting range and the Wingers Bush Bar which is open every Saturday and on request (if more than four people) at other times of the week. The farm is also suitable for more informal corporate retreats. Field and Stream has a great diversity of Mpumalanga's grassland birds and plants, and for the more focussed, a plethora of dragonflies and other insects. Blesbuck, Grey Rhebuck, Mountain Reedbuck, Duikers, Fallow Deer, Cape Otters, Sidestriped and Blackbacked Jackals, Serval, Caracal, Brown Hyena, Aardvark, Bushpig, Warthog, monkeys and baboons are present on the farm and are regularly seen by guests. Field and Stream has five streams originating on the farm, all tributaries of the Witpoort River, The many pools along these streams, and the three waterfalls on the farm offer a guest great opportunities for picnics and cool swims. The three dams and Witpoort River are all stocked with Rainbow Trout and the farm is well known for its good fly fishing in the area. Note though that the River is closed to fishing between 1 May and 30 August. It has five self catering cottages in a farm setting. There are two six to eight sleepers - Cormorant Cove and Eagle Crest which overlook Meike's Meer. The Lodge is a 10 sleeper unit, within very close walking distance of William's Favourite, a weir. The Farmstead is a pet friendly six sleeper unit. The Nest is a pet friendly two sleeper unit. In total, the farm can accommodate up to 30 people. A high clearance vehicle is preferable, but if driven with care, normal cars can be used.

We had a good time, my sons and I, for a one night stay in the Eagle's Crest cottage. The place was clean, well equiped even with firewood. Unfortunately, we didn't catch fish but we are only beginners at fly-fishing. We had fun shooting the clay pigeons. The environment is very quiet and peaceful. We'd love to go back!

Beautiful set up, great quality conditioned and strong fish. Well managed dams.
Few humble suggestions: Remove dustbin drums at dams. This spoils ascetics and are eye sores.
Rod racks on veranda would be very useful too.

Lovely and peaceful , things to take note of however is that you must have a 4x4 or a car with good ground clearance, the roads are horrific. Also, if you are not a pet owner, ask to be put into accommodation which is not pet friendly.
My husband is a keen fly fisherman and after trying for two days, did not even get a bite.
There is also no cellphone signal.
The accommodation is not serviced but I really would suggest that the dustbin and braai at least be serviced if people stay longer than two days.

Hi, Fishing has been tough as the weather is a bit warm for good trout fishing. The dams are however well stocked. Only Vodacom that does not have a signal on the farm. No servicing due to Covid but should be a full service on the 3rd day with premises vacated(Will take this up with Gavin the manager)

Great venue, beautiful trout fishing dams, wonderful walks in nature, everything about this place is beautiful. HOWEVER the owner is disingenuous, only upon arrival are you informed that a catch and release policy is in place.
One would at the very least expect such an important policy to be displayed on the website and to be communicated before taking a booking and before taking one's money for the booking.

We stayed in the old farmhouse for four days on a work trip. Happily we had enough time to walk to three waterfalls and enjoy the fabulous green space field and stream offers. Theres a sundowmer spot 5 minutes from the accom at top of of the closest falls, its a half an hour stroll to the second option, and a 3.5km to the picnic spot at the third. The huge Veranda is great spot to chill and chat and watch the light. Cell signal is limited and the farm roads are not great for low clearance vehicles. Hope to go back soon to just enjoy, and maybe cycle out on the Tonteldoos road.!

This is our third stay at Field and Stream and we always have a good time. The location is excellent with the facilities and the farm's overall infrastructure well laid out and well maintained. We stayed at the farmstead this time and the property is well equipped, neat and the facilities were all functional, with recently renovated bathrooms. The view from this property is beautiful. Although the decor is perhaps a bit outdated, it is still functional. The fishing is good and dams well stocked with decent trout, with some real lunkers that you can see in the clear water. The fishing facilities also has some good structure, with some deep sections, shallower weedbeds and rocky sections. Overall, we always leave well rested and I would definitely recommend field and stream.

Awesome place to be when you are seeking nature, quiet with your family including pets. If you like fly fishing, walks, cool waterfall jumps and rock pool swims then Field and Stream is your destination. Apart from the setting, the houses are all picturesque, set far enough apart and comfortable with everything you need for a weekend away, even a small dishwasher for mom. The Pet friendly accommodation very well planned with a nice big back yard fenced so you can really relax without wondering where your pooch went...lots of awesome bird life as well.

We had a great stay and the fishing was great. We didn't catch a large amount of fish, but the ones we did were of great size and in top condition. We enjoyed the pools and the waterfall, beautiful farm. We have been there quite a few years ago, and since then the beds and lounge set is still the same. You may consider "servicing" these. There can be more serving spoons and some of the kitchen utensils can be replaced. The stay was definitely not uncomfortable, these are just friendly suggestions.

As always a beautiful setting. We have visited Field and stream a few times already. Unfortunately we had two water leaks in the roof when it rained. The couch in the lounge is also falling apart and needs some repairs. We love that Dullstroom houses have the "old feel" and it give character but those things might be a hazard. Manager Gavin was welcoming and friendly. We visited Field and stream for the first time in 2011 and the duvet cover have not changed in 12 years. I do not have a problem with the colour because the unit is pet friendly, but you can see that they have been washed one too many times. Field and stream is not one of the cheapest places around, so you expect some basic maintenance to be done. We will be back though because we love all the streams and dams.

Response from Greg Williams, Owner at Field & Stream
Responded 17 Jul 2023
Hi, Unfortunately the rain and wind did create a problem which does not occur if normal rain, There is no chance that the duvets are 12 years old as we do regularly change them, and if so required on your visit Gavin the manager would have done so on request. It should also be noted that being a pet friendly unit with the dogs in the house we do not offer our newest linen. Especially during the rainy period as the dogs tend to put mud on the linen which is difficult to wash out hence the fading!! Regards, Greg.
