Wonderful experience, very pure and unspoiled. we loved our 3 night stay. Riaan and Carla have just taken over as managers, and already work is being done on the property, which over the months before they came had been neglected. We stayed at the lodge and had everything we could wish for. Riaans knowledge and feeling for this amazing place is unbelievable. We shall definitely be back

Somkhanda is wild, untamed and incredibly scenic. I would highly recommend a stay here for those wanting a true escape into nature. We stayed in the zebra camp for 5 nights. The tent was clean and had no holes or broken zippers and was a great base to explore the reserve from. Ablution facilities were rustic but appropriate for the wild experience. We fell asleep to the roars of lions, two nights in a row and heard the beautiful call of the African scops Owl almost every night. We were greeted by Gareth, one of the rangers. He was super friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome. You will need a 4x4 to fully explore and enjoy the network of many trails. Sedans would be limited to the 7km main road. We only saw two of the big 5 but that's how game viewing goes, however we enjoyed every second of our stay and will definitely return!

When you are tired of the hassle and bustle of the city and need some quality quiet time this is the place to visit. You can spend countless hours sitting on the Lodge’s deck, enjoying the beautiful scene, the birds’ songs and animals coming down for a drink of water. No nagging cell phone unless you are a Cell C user.

Visit with my family, children, grandchildren. The most lovely stay, with the most helpfull staff. Food that children appreciate, and lovely safari drives on narrow roads in the Bush. Stayd one night in the tented camp, Leopard wandering through the camp at night. My son woke up thinking he heard a sawmill working!!!! We are comming back! Thank You! Karin Gangsei, Norway

We liked everything! The lodge has a fantastic location with spectacular views, a great spacious room and very friendly staff.
Carla, the manager, does an excellent job. We did 2 game dives with our own car (4-wheel car recommended) and spotted an elephant, 2 rhinos, lots of nyalas and impalas.
A lion right by the lodge when we arrived and giraffes right by the lodge the next day. We also did an organized game drive in an open car with Rian (guide). Great encounter with an elephant.
Highlight: 2 lions with 2 small lion cubs at the waterhole and there were also 2 rhinos.
