KASTELEIN is a charming little guesthouse for the more discerning traveller. It is situated in a quiet side street in Pongola, directly off the N2 Highway between the Northern Provinces and the coastal areas of KwaZulu-Natal or Mozambique. Our guests find it a perfect midway stopover. The distinguished and brand new colonial style building is set in a unique landmark garden, a sought-after venue for photo shoots of special occasions. There are five bedrooms, sleeping twelve guests at maximum capacity, which means it is never crowded, with personal attention to every guest by hosts Rene, Danie and Chris. Four rooms are in the new building and the de-lux room is adjacent to the main house, with its own private entrance and court yard. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, the rooms are elegantly furnished, the garden is picture perfect and the cuisine is unpretentious but hearty and plentiful. There is a small pool and safe off street parking. The premises are completely protected by an effective security system. Much care was taken to clad the rooms luxuriously, yet with no unnecessary fuss or frills. We take pride in our immaculate white linen and soft sterilised towels. There is a queen size bed in every room with an extra single bed in one of the rooms and an extra double bed in another. Each room has a full bathroom, kitchenette for basic self-catering, air conditioning, TV, sitting area and a garden view. All amenities are provided, as well as a pretty basket containing a continental breakfast to enjoy in the privacy of the guests' own room or patio. The breakfast room is inside the main house, should a guest prefer a traditional cooked breakfast or dinner by prior arrangement. Free Wi-Fi is available in the de-lux room adjacent to the main house, as well as in the public areas. Kastelein offers value for money. We are one of a kind.

Lovely place - safe parking, clean, fresh white sheets and everything you need for self catering…. But ….. when Loadshedding happens - there is no water, which is a big problem - we have all become used to “living” with a schedule for electricity …. But if you have to wait 2 hrs to shower it becomes a problem…… unfortunately through not fault of their own.

This guesthouse is tastefully furnished and very neat. The room has a small kitchen with a fridge, sink and microwave including dishes. I loved the full white decor and the well manicured garden. Has safe parking within the property. I will be using them again and recommend this place to all passing thro the small town of Pongola

We had a lovely overnight stay at Kastelein. There are lots of details in the decor and garden. Everything felt clean and well-kept. Everything in the room is white and so I did have trouble to keep my small boy with too much energy after a long trip off the perfect linen!

Our experience with Kastelein was fantastic right from the start. Rene was efficient and sorted everything out for us. She even went as far as to book dinner for us at a nearby restaurant. The accommodation is absolutely beautiful with crisp white linen and everything you could possibly require in the room is available. We travel a lot and I can honestly say that nothing could have been improved or done differently at Kastelein. It was extremely quiet and we really got to relax. We would highly recommend it to anyone staying over in Pongola! Thanks Rene and best of luck for the remainder of the year!

We were travelling from Bloemfontein and needed a place to stop-over before continuing. I came across Kastelein B&B and emailed for a quote. I got a quote within hours of inquiry from Rene. On the day of our trip, I confirmed our travel plans, Rene kept in contact with us all the way. Chris showed us our amazing room which suited our needs exactly. I will definitely recommend this place if you're travelling through KZN .... Stop in Pongola

I saw photos of this place on tripadvisor and wanted to see it in real life and was nor disappointed. The interiors are simply wonderful och the garden looks much like a classical french garden. Will probably come again when travelling this way. Did however a problem with the Wi-Fi.

I often work in rural areas around Pongola. My stay at Kastelein has never disappointed - it always amazes me how far Danie, Rene and Chris will go out of their way to make me feel comfortable. The rooms are immaculate and the breakfast is always a treat. Mandla is always ready to help me carry my luggage and the ladies ready to help where they can. On occasion we've organised to braai outside and there's a table set with everything you need. The garden is beautiful and the pool a wonderful end to Pongola's hot days. This is home away from home when I head to Pongola.

I would definitely recommend this place to everyone. It's nice for couples, but also nice if you're travelling by yourself. The rooms were beautiful and very clean. Chris and Rene were super friendly and breakfast was amazing!
