My second visit and was made just as welcome as the first, the staff are so friendly and helpful.
Accommodation is great the food awesome and the game viewing second to none. The various activities on land and on the water are good value for money and extremely interesting and professionally run. Thanks to you all

Beaurifull place to stay with very friendly staff. Clean units and good food. We really enjoyed the stay and the personal hallo off the owner and also had a good time with his son and friends on Valentines day. We though that maybe a fan on the veranda of the units would be nice as the fan's in the lounge and dining area made a huge differnce in the heat. Only one thing we would have loved was to have a private dinner on our last night and not in a group with strangers - thats just our choice.. But the overall stay was wonderfull and would recommend to anyone. and if in the area will come again. We loved our outings -the Rhino walk was an amazing experience and Cosmos was a fantastic guide. Also skipper Bruce made my husbands tiger fishing an experience to remember. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Avoid this place if you are not a hunter. The place advertise all kind of activities that do not really exist. You will be treated ( even if you pay good money ) as a third rate visitor if you are not a man with a gun... Exclusives zones reserved for hunters that you will not access ( e.g. Black Rhinos ) even if you ask for it...

My Wife and I spent three nights at Mvubu lodge in January 2015. This is our first visit to this beautiful reserve. The lodge is comfortable, ideally situated above the river, with excellent food. The accommodation was comfortable, with all the comforts from home including a small mini bar fridge on the deck and a safe with a walk in wardrobe. The view over the river is just magical and we spent many many hours looking out at this view watching the game and birds doing their natural activity.

What we loved is that the lodge allows you to choose your own activities and also there is the option of making use of the Spa which we did. Maxwell took us out on the river boat cruise and game drive – whilst on the boat cruise a big storm was developing which just added to the emotion and excitement of the cruise. The snacks offered were like a meal. We saw baby rhinos with their mothers and fantastic bird life.

Our first night was simply electric as the storm developed we were able to watch it whilst eating our delicious meal. Unfortunately the weather was overcast during our stay with rain but did not detract from this wonderful experience and lodge in fact added to it with waking up to the smell of the bush once it had rained and watching the river change as it filled.

There is no wifi at this lodge which in some way made us concentrate on where we were and allowed us to switch off from technology and facebook!!!

From booking on line to check in & out the service was professional and friendly. We plan to be back in Jan 2017!

I dont often write reviews:- however in exceptional circumstances which this was -I believe it to be warranted. We stayed here in January and I can honestly say it was flawless -from the checking in to the rooms and food to the dramatic and fantastic Rhino Tracking with Bertus who charmed us with charming anecdotes and stole our breath with some amazing moments! - The standout for us was the service throughout from all the staff but especially the Manageress Catherine she was thoroughly professional and utterly commendable on every level - a first rate manager and a huge asset to this abundantly beautiful paradise in the bush!
I cannot recommend this place enough! Do yourself and your soul a favour and visit.
HUGEFAN!

Came here in winter. Although it was dry the game viewing was great and staff were both professional and friendly. Great views from room 2 of the valley and the river. Many elephants and hippos on view

Pongola is one of the best game reserves we've been to.
The lodge is beautiful, ideally situated above the river, with excellent food. Catherine and her staff are very friendly and efficient.
The drives and river cruises were awe-inspiring with 2 exceptional guides, Bertus and Maxwell, highly professional and enthusiastic.
With Maxwell, we did 2 river cruises, morning and afternoon, admiring on near hold hippos, huge crocs, rhinos, zebras, etc and a multitude of birds, getting excellent and captivating explanations on their ways of life.
With Bertus, the "elephant and rhino whisperer", we did a game drive and a rhino tracking, getting very close to elephants, buffalos, rhinos, giraffes, etc. Instead of just pressing down the gas pedal as done in other parks to frighten the elephants when they showed some agressivity, Bertus simply talked to them and they quietly resumed their eating next to the Land Rover.
DON'T MISS THE RHINO TRACKING, it's the most beautiful and fascinating experience we've ever had, getting as near as 9 meters on foot to a herd of rhinos, including a dam and her calf and 2 mock-fighting young bulls. When the mother got nervous, Bertus just talked to her and she quietened down. His in-depth knowledge of the animals' behaviour and interactions with other species was phenomenal as well as his communicative passion for the bush and its inhabitants.
We should have stayed longer but will be back !

Living at a lodge in the bush myself I was not sure what to expect. I am happy to say my expectations were exceeded. From our arrival Catherine took great care of us! The accommodation was clean, practical and tastefully decorated. The service was good and the food was nice. Very good value for money. Free WiFi would have been great though!

We only booked one night at the lodge and wished we were staying longer.

On our drive from the entrance to the lodge we saw a multitude of animals and birds and it just got better from there.

Our accommodation was stunning and we especially enjoyed our covered deck area that had a feel of being a private little hide looking out over the river. From this vantage point we were able to watch a massive heard of elephants traverse the river followed by a heard of buffalo who came down to drink.

Our food was great and our hosts very attentive. A great experience all round.

We will most definitely be back but for a much longer visit next time.
