My first safari and writing this after spending time at my second. A fantastic experience, Holly and Mandla were fantastic showing us the full reserve. We saw all the big 5 and lots of other animals. Catching a massive male rhino and making him do a u turn, watching 3 lions on the airstrip and listening to a hippo symphony all great highlights, the rooms are intimate, the service and meals were excellent, especially lunch. animals hovering round the back of your lodge unforgettable. Really enjoyable. My thanks to all at the resort.

Every single aspect of our trip to Phinda was spectacular. From check-in to check-out, the staff was warm, friendly and incredibly accommodating, with a particular shoutout to Chane and Vela. Any request was met with ease. Our room (room 1) was spectacular and had a remarkable view. The food was top notch and extremely plentiful. But most importantly, the game drives were otherworldly. Our ranger/guide, Pete, and tracker, Mr. M, are truly world class. They did a phenomenal job throughout our stay showing us different locations, tracking amazing sightings and making the bush incredibly enjoyable. While we were incredibly fortunate to see everything we could have hoped for and much more, we were confident we would’ve had an amazing time just hanging out with them even without any sightings. Cannot recommend Phinda, and Rock Lodge in particular, enough.

As an added bonus, a herd of 40 elephants came to drink at the pool of one of the rooms for 2.5 hours. Incredible!

I cannot speak highly enough of Phinda’s Rock Lodge, and how well it suited us for our honeymoon.

If you are looking for an intimate lodge setting with world class service, incredible game viewing, and warm staff, please look no further than Phinda Rock Lodge.

There are only 6 rooms (really, large bungalows) in this lodge, and they are spread out and completely private from each other. Each room has sweeping views and their own plunge pools. Prepare to feel embedded in the nature as monkeys and frogs will invade your space— it’s all an amazing part of the experience.

Murray (the lodge manager), Vela (Butler), and Thondo (Chef) are all incredibly kind and take such great care of their guests. They are all so sincere, and they made our honeymoon so special.

Lastly (and most importantly), the game viewing is absolutely top-notch. Many people will tell you that Sabi Sands is the premier safari location in South Africa, and that may be true in some respects (such as for leopard), but I can tell you that we spent time in both Phinda and Sabi Sands and our game viewing experiences in Phinda were every bit as incredible. Our ranger Chad, and our tracker Bethuel, were both absolutely phenomenal. Not only did they make sure we saw all the animals that we wanted to see, they were also just such genuinely good people and so much fun to hang out with. And Beyond is lucky to have these two.

My wife and I will forever treasure memories of our stay at And Beyond Phinda Rock Lodge!

The rooms and lodge are stunning but that’s where it stops.
You get the impression the food and beverage side is run on a shoe string budget. The alcohol in the all inclusive package was sub standard and in low supply.
The champagne you don’t finish at night gets served to you the following lunch time completely flat and with an arbitrary wine cork in it.
The morning game drive snacks consists of dry homemade biscuits and that is as good as it gets
High tea is non existent and game drive sundowners consist of peanuts and some dry wors.

Far better value and service can be gotten at Lion Sands or Singita for the same price but Phinda is a distant one star cousin in relation to Lion Sands and Singita

Response from andBeyond Travel, Owner at Andbeyond Phinda Rock Lodge
Responded 22 Nov 2021
Dear Hans, Thank you for posting your feedback on your recent stay at &Beyond Phinda Rock Lodge. As a company it is vital that we hear from our guests and whilst I am pleased that the accommodation and lodge met your expectations, it would be remiss of me if I did not mention how saddened I am that the food, snacks & beverages did not live up to your standards. This matter has been addressed with the team at the lodge who, I must admit, were most surprised to hear of your disappointment as they mentioned that you seemed very happy during your stay. They are saddened that you did not address this with them at the time as they would have loved to be given the opportunity of making good. Rest assured that your comments have been taken most seriously and have been addressed. Please also note that I have, via email, responded to you in more detail, through your Travel Agent. Once again, thank you for your feedback. Kind regards Kevin Pretorius Regional Director – South Africa

My husband and I stayed at Phinda Rock Lodge for 3 nights. The stay was absolutely wonderful! The rooms and property are breathtaking, the food is fantastic, and the service is superb. We were so lucky to be paired with Daryl (ranger) and Pat (tracker) for our game drives. They went out of their way to ensure that our days were tailored to our specific desires. Daryl is an encyclopedia of bush knowledge with a knack for wildlife photography. Pat has such specific local insights/Zulu traditions on the Phinda ecosystem. The manager, I believe his name is Murry, was also fantastic. He went out of his way to acquire cigars for my husband and ensure that we were always comfortable and content. The staff was flexible with us when we requested meals to go instead of full, sit down meals in order to stay out on our drives longer. We wish that we had been able to spend more time at Phinda! We would HIGHLY recommend Phinda Rock Lodge and hope to visit again in the future.

Just returned home from South Africa, finished our holiday with 5 nights at Rock Lodge. Just 6 lovely, individual lodges carved into the mountain. It felt a bit like being in a Flintstones movie (in a good way!). Fantastic bed, clean rooms, well serviced, beautiful view, lovely plunge pool. A few steps up to the communal area which is open with a lovely lounge (well stocked bar!) and open restaurant area for eating. The food was excellent, great fresh fruit and vegetables, lovely variety. For four of us there was plenty of choice at each meal with something to please us all.
The game drives are something else. We were so fortunate to have Sibu and Sipwe, definitely the 'A Team'! They were incredibly knowledgeable and ensured we had so many incredible sightings which will live in our memories for ever.
All staff, without exception were delightful. Sihle, our butler was great and looked after us so well and with great patience. (Thank you for ensuring my green tea was on the table at breakfast as soon as I arrived! ). The cook (sorry I don't remember her name) was also excellent and cooked a lovely variety of dishes for us.....far too much food!
Last, but my no means least, Murray our manager, a very capable, personable young man. He was always there to ensure our needs were being met, nothing was too much trouble and he approached every request, with a 'can do' attitude. Would love to go back.
Fantastic!

After an amazing stay at Londolozi in the Kruger area we experienced a tremendous let down at our next stop, Phinda Rock Lodge. Immediately upon arrival it became clear we had made a mistake booking at this property. Furnishings in common area and room were old and worn down, in various states of disrepair. Room was far from clean. Water closet had such a lighting deficiency a flashlight was needed in the evening. There were some service issues the first day as well. The service issues were corrected for the 2nd and 3rd days of our stay, but the rundown condition of the property could not be resolved obviously. We requested a financial accommodation which we felt was reasonable but no accomodation was given other than a complimentary night if we return within two years. We will not be returning within two years and even if we did we would not stay at an &beyond property based on our experience at Rock Lodge. There are so many beautiful properties with pricing similar to Rock Lodge, another option clearly should be taken so as to avoid the major disappointment we experienced.

Very good time at this, our fifth safari we've been on in South Africa and Botswana. Phinda (pronounced "Pinda) Rock Lodge is relatively small, which makes it more cozy and produces some of the reviews regarding smallness. We prefer smaller and quieter, although this results in somewhat less in food etc offerings. This is a notch below Lion Sands and some larger safari lodges, but it made up for with the closeness and coziness. The dining was very good and the night we had our rooftop dinner was wonderfully romantic. Our suite was very nice. Game drives were excellent with lots to see. We did not do any added trips or beach excursions, but heard the Zulu village was interesting and fun. We did not take our Malarone, tho we saw one mosquito early in our trip (November) and this is a borderline area so beware; afterwards, the one of us who is a regular mosquito victim used spray. Reading the negative views, they're excessively harsh. This is an enjoyable safari lodge in which to stay with very nice staff, trackers, and rangers.

Thank you Brett and your great team for making our wedding anniversary a memorable one. The attention to detail and numerous “spoils” really made us feel valued as guests. The game drives with Pete and Sizwe were excellent, (we saw all of the big 5, and so much more) the food produced by the talented and engaging Jacques and the attentive and fantastic service from Zola and you surpassed our expectations. The beautiful setting and wonderful facilities and accommodation were great and the surprise dinner in the last night rounded off a fabulous stay. Thanks once again, we will definitely be making a return trip to experience your warm hospitality again.

I stayed only for 1 night but it was unforgettable. Carin my lodge manager escorted me to one of the most beautiful lodges I’ve ever stayed at. With an outdoor private pool and a flint stone like cave architecture, this lodge is luxury personified. Zama the chef saw to it that my meals were catered to well (I’m vegetarian) . Lucky my ranger made my first drive delightful by making me gaze at 4 white rhinos in 5 minutes! And then three lions and an elephant frolicking at a river. I had the company of a wonderful couple from Perth Australia and I had great food over great conversations. Charming and thoroughly enjoyable I’d say! Wish I had stayed longer.
