Kosi Forest Lodge is a 16 bed lodge fenced into the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, an internationally recognised World Heritage Site. We provide a snug and intimate base from which guests can explore this extraordinary area of splendour and diversity, or relax surrounded by incredible natural beauty. The lounge, dining room and bar extend into a large, wooden deck built in the shade of an enormous Zulu Podberry tree, and we take full advantage of Maputuland’s sultry weather with most meals served alfresco on the deck or sheltered beneath large Albizia trees. We have carefully positioned the thatched bush suites in the sand forest for privacy and peace under the canopy of shady trees. Low wooden bedroom walls with mosquito netting and roll-up canvas blinds allow for maximum views of the surrounding forest, and arguably the lodge’s most popular feature is the romantic, open air, en-suite bathroom set in white beach sand and enclosed by a reed boma.

Detailed Reviews
If its peace and quiet you want then Kosi Forest Lodge is the place to go! The rooms are tucked away in seclusion down winding paths which are lit by torches at night. The only sounds are the insects, frogs and birds. The meals were served by lovely ladies and it was a real pleasure to have no clattering and noise from the kitchen.
The staff at Kosi were outstanding, very helpful and the guides were knowledgeable and competent. The canoe trip was a treat, our guide and oarsman was superb and I could have stayed in the canoe all day just soaking in the beauty and peace.

What sets this lodge apart was the incredible service from the lodge staff. They were so friendly and helpful and to top it off we were served delicious food every meal. The cabin was spotlessly clean with such a massive comfortable bed including mosquito nets even though it’s a low risk malaria area. There was also an outside shower and bath tub under the trees. There was also an abundance of bird life and to explore the lakes was such a great experience. We also saw logger head turtles on a night walk which was one of our high lights

My husband and I stayed Kosi Forest Lodge for 2 nights. We loved the grounds and sunset by the pool was fantastic. The food was pretty good and the service was decent, but not overly friendly. We did the half-day boat tour and the canoeing through the lodge and those activities were great! The room/cabin was rustic, cozy, and private, but it was a bit too small. Once you opened a suitcase you could barely walk around the gigantic bed. We were disappointed that the lodge allows small children to stay there. While all the other guests were couples, one family had a small loud child with them and it threw off the atmosphere for everyone else. Overall we enjoyed staying at Kosi Forest Lodge but wouldn't pay the high price to stay there again.

Dear Carmody06, Thank you for taking the time to write this review on Kosi Forest Lodge. We are delighted that you loved our special little place, the sunsets and activities are really enjoyable. The staff are are all local and sometimes don't have a great understanding of the English language, especially with all the different accents they hear. this is perhaps why they may have appeared a little unfriendly and shy. We are a family friendly lodge and do ask that children eat a little earlier in order to avoid any noise disturbances during the adult meal times. How unfortunate that these parents were clearly unaware of the affect on the other guests. Thank you again and wishing you many happy travels in the future. Kind regards Yo Hay for Isibindi Africa Lodges

We spent a week at Kosi Forest lodge and wanted to share some of the positives and negatives of the lodge. Firstly, the negatives: 1. The Accomodation needs some upgrading. The mosquito nets were full of large holes (which makes them ineffective), and given that we are in a forest, the area is full of many insects. 2. Their outdoor shower and bath although sounds romantic is impractical unless there is a net on top as both were covered in sand, leaves and lots of ants and worms. When we tried to wash the bath tub, about 50 ants floated up and we could not clear the water due to leaves stuck in the tub. 3. We were 2 adults and 4 children which means they packed 3 people per room for the same price as a family of 2 adults and 2 children as they charge per person/night. This meant we were all cramped for the 6 nights in a muggy room with barely space to walk around our beds or put our luggage (were traveling for 3 weeks so had a fair amount between 6 of us). We will definitely not be staying here again as a large family due to the size of the rooms. 4. The pool is very small so if you are planning on spending long days at the lodge there really is little for the kids to do, especially on rainy days (we had a couple of those) 5. The staff struggled with vegetarian meals for us. The kids menu has no veg options so we had to repeatedly ask them to make light fare for kids. This is a struggle because this is a 3.5 star lodge which charges 5* prices and if you are a vegetarian, it’s really not worth the price as food usually is one of the highlights at these places as Accomodation is very average. Given we are charged the same amount as people who got extensive meat and sea food dishes, a little more effort on the meals for vegetarians would have been great.
Now the positives: 1. The staff were warm, friendly and especially the guides for the activities were amazing 2. The only reason one should go to the Kosi Bay is the activities it offers-the beaches are amazing, the canoeing was great, the forest walks were educational and a great experience and watching the turtles laying eggs on the beach at night is a bucket list experience. All in all, we would love to come back to this area again because of these activities

Dear HeenaB Thank you for taking the time time to write your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed the location and activities so much that you would like to re-visit this magical area - you are so right it really is all about the activities. Thank you for pointing out the various maintenance and housekeeping issues - we are onto them all. With regards to vegetarian meals are Exec Head Chef is busy putting together more options and will be spending next week with the kitchen staff training them and ensuring that the offerings and standard are greatly improved. We realize that your stay with us did not meet up to your expectations for which we sincerely apologize. Once again thank you for your review and pointing out all the areas which we can improve on. Kind regards Penny Rice Marketing Manager Isibindi Africa Lodges

Kosi Forest Lodge was beyond expectation! We were provided an amazing welcome and dinner even though we arrived late. They went above and beyond at every step - allowing us to have lunch by the pool, adjusting the canoe trip to meet our family needs. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a weekend away. Also the baby turtles and momma turtles were amazing during the turtle trek.

Everything was just excellent, from huge cosy beds to nicely decorated room, meals very healthy and tasty pesented like a piece of ar, all the staff fulfills every wish you might tell them and also the ones you only think ( I was solo traveller and had every tour with my private guide, because I had told I was a teacher and would like to have it quiet, but I never said I want to do the excursions alone. ) Everybody arranges everything perfectly so that every guest can feel like a queen or king and enjoy the stay. Worth every single cent and even more !!!

This establishment is beautiful, however totally over priced and really not worth the money. The menu options are limited and quality of the food is disappointing. For dinner we had a warm pumpkin soup as a starter in a heat wave of 35 degrees, and for mains a very exciting choice of fillet steak, fillet steak or fillet steak.....

Dear Travelmenories, Thank you for taking the time to write this feedback on Kosi Forest Lodge. We are very disappointed to read about your experience with the food which usually receives great reviews. Our group executive chef is at Kosi Forest Lodge currently and as we take all feedback with great appreciation, he is reviewing the menus. He has introduced a choice of starters as well as a choice of dessert at lunch time and increased the breakast buffet options. He has advised that he has other plans which will be implemented in the food department. We are delighted that you found the area and lodge so beautiful and maybe one day we will get the opportunity to welcome you back and give you a fabulous experience. Wishing you many happy travels further. Kind regards Yo Hay for Isibindi Africa Lodges

Kosi forest lodge is only accepting around 20 people at a time in luxury huts with all commodities in the African forest near beautiful lakes. You will enjoy the most beautiful sunset in the world according to my spouse:) activities are possible such a boat ride on the lakes to admire the hippo’s. The cuisine is delightful while you are eating in a beautiful setup. A must go if you have the budget $$$. Worth every penny. there is a pool situated at a prime place on the property.

This was our third time in the Kosi Forest Lodge and it was just as fantastic as before. The staff was as usual, super friendly and helpful and passionate.
This time we went for a snorkeling outing to the Kosi Mouth (last time we went boating on the lake to see hippos and a variety of birdlife, which was amazing!) It was beautiful to see the variety of fish and to enjoy a great lunch prepared by the lodge while overlooking the beach.
The kayak outing in the morning comes highly recommended as well. We did it for the second time and the waters were so still that they caused spectacular reflections. The walk to the kayak spot through the sand forest is amazing as it talked you through rare yellow wood trees and raffia palm.
Will definitely return. The orchestra of birds in the morning, the bush babies at night and the splendid nature in which the lodge is set, is just a perfect way to reconnect with nature and yourself.
