Lets start with the facts

The road there is terrible and some boards would be amazing.

You need a 4x4 or be experienced in offroad driving to get there.

The rooms are very basic but clean and offer everything you need the camp is small but comes with everything you would need.

Our kids loved every moment and the pool and bar area is awesome we played cards read books and Lalas neck is amazing.

The turtle drive was awesome.

The staff was amazing they went above and beyond especially for the kids when the weather wasn't playing along.

Movies under the stars in the bush wow what a treat.

If you are not vegetarian take some meaT with as they only cater vegetarian the food is not bad but they will gladly cook your meat for you and the Boma area is awesome.

Londi and Mp and Mandela are some off the best staff I have ever met and just want to say thank you guys.

We will definitely be back

Location great, staff friendly, Lodge beautyfull and clean. Defenantly Recommend friends and or family even solo travelers will enjoy the location.

Staff all smiles always happy to help.
Lodge and surrounding beaches are really stunning.

I stayed for two weeks and I could have easily stayed two more months.
Management was extremely firendly and helpful.

I would like to thank everybody at both camps for making it feel like a second home away from home.

Highly recomended

We had a friends holiday at Gugulesizwe recently for only 4 nights, I have had the privilege to visit Gugs in the making a few times. On my friends visit for the first time they were blown away and expectations were heavily exceeded.
Wish we could stay longer, so me made the most of our holiday and ejoyed it so much, almost as if it brings the childbout of you.
Gugs is oficially my favourite holiday destination in South Africa. Sometimes we as human beings need a break from the civilized life and enjoy nature. Now this is where Gugs brings all of this together with 5 star modern yet earthy luxury tented camps, lounges, open decks with fire pits, a swimming pool to cool off from time to time, beautiful views of luscious green zulu landscapes and the ocean in the distance, close enough to see the whales in the distance and even hear them splashing on the water early mornings when its quiet with zero wind.
Situated not too far from exclusive beaches where many a times you have the beaches all to yourself.
With untouched nature it makes the perfect holiday destination for guided walks, bird watching, surfing, world class snorkeling and diving as well as excellent sport fishing for the enthusiastic fisherman.
I hope to vist Gugs again soon as I fell in love with this place.

Our family of 4 spent 3 nights over Christmas at Gugulesizwe. What a super family holiday we had. Lindo, Mandela, Impi and the rest of their team were so friendly and made sure that our every need was met. Unfortunately the beach were closed for two of the days we were there due to Covid, but it gave us a lot of time to read, sleep and relax next to the pool. Lalla Neck snorkeling on our last day was special with a lot of fish to see. We did not see turtles on our walk, but some guests that did the turtle drive did have the opportunity to have the full experience. We can also recommend the open air movie under starlight. The food was excellent and we did not even miss our meat. We will definitely be back. Thanks you Gugs and team. You made our holiday such a special one.

Hi Marileen, We really appreciate the review and glad to see you enjoyed the movie under the stars. It is bad luck about the COVID situation at the beach, but you will have to come back when that is not an issue!

We thoroughly enjoyed our Gugs experience. They do things a bit differently to other establishments, which makes it unique and enjoyable. The staff was great, very well led by Jani. The general area, pool and lounge is fantastic. We all loved the setup. The food was really good and we didn’t miss our meat at all. MB was a good and knowledgeable guide (albeit sometimes a bit businesslike), he knows the area, birds and history well. The local beaches are wonderful, though a small distance away. One small criticism is that the sleeping quarters felt a bit basic (eg the gaps between roof and walls and ‘untreated timber look’ that doesn’t quite work) and didn’t match the overall quality of the rest of the camp and the staff.

The location, views, accommodation, food and staff are all amazing. The cuisine is excellent and beautifully presented. Even the carnivores enjoyed the food. Great access to all the adventures in Kosi Bay or to remain onsite. There is walking on site and a relatively easy hike down to the beach. The resident cats, Mouse and Potatoes are an extra bonus

We had a very nice stay at Big Skies. We arrived without expectations and from the first to the last minute we enjoyed ourselves and felt welcome. We were able to relax and enjoy all the facilities such as massage and snorkeling. Above all, the (vegetarian) food was extremely tasty.

Gugs is a nice pit stop 'in between' a trip through South Africa. Big skies team, thank you for your contributie to our unforgettable trip.

One of my favourite places. My partner and I stayed in Gugs. We were picked up and dropped off from Manguzi, the town nearby as we didn’t have a 4x4. It took about an hour.
The room was comfortable and the shower was amazing. We had pleanty of privacy. There are also common areas with a pool and couches to sit and lie on. Plus a well stocked bar with alcohol and free coffee and tea.
The food was excellent, all vegetarian, made freshly every day. Usually served with freshly baked bread.
The nearest beach is Lalanek which is a short drive from the main lodge. The water is warm and clear. We did snorkelling and saw loads of tropical fish.
The staff were all really lovely and knowledgable about nature and South Africa. The ethos of the place is amazing. Very ecologically sustainable and working to support the local community.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a relaxing stay with pleanty of nature.

We had the most amazing stay. The place is beautiful, anything you'd want is there.
Places to relax, make campfire, dip in the pool, have massage, guided walks, Bar in the evening.
The staff are genuinly friendly, very welcoming.
Gugs is located near one of Kosi Bay's beautiful beaches, with lots of rockpools.
The accommodation is in tune with nature, ecologically sutainable.
Delicious vegetarian food, homemade bread.
Our accommodation is private, the best softest sleeping experience I've had in a very long time.
