#12 of 23 Speciality lodging in Madikwe Game Reserve
Travellers' Choice
Motswiri Private Safari Lodge, situated in the western side of the 75 000 hectare, Big Five, malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve in the North West Province, forms an integral part of The Madikwe Collection's exclusive portfolio of lodges. As its name suggests, Motswiri Private Safari Lodge is an exclusive lodge offering guests a personal bush experience, which is impossible to replicate in larger concerns. The lodge offer some of the best views in Madikwe as well as the tranquil feel given by the mature trees (mostly Leadwoods) under which the lodge's main building and five luxury bush villas nestle. Motswiri has luxurious accommodation, with each bush villa offering stunning views from private decks and multiple-slider bedrooms and bathrooms. Add double-sided fire places, air-conditioning/ ceiling fans, stunning bathrooms and an outdoor shower and you have a bush experience second to none. Then our Family Villa offer three rooms all with en-suite bathrooms. The Family villa boasts a private lounge area leading out onto a private deck and pool. At the main area of the lodge enjoy the rim-flow pool overlooking the waterhole, have a cocktail under the shade of the Motswiri trees (Leadwood in Tswana) on the main deck or just while away the day in the outside lounge and bar area. Fine cuisine is served in the dining room, under the Leadwood or around a roaring fire in the boma. Staff offer personal service in a relaxed but professional manner and the twice daily game drives are conducted by our rangers whose superb bush knowledge is imparted in the manner best suited to the bush knowledge of the guests on the specially designed landcruiser game viewing vehicle. Motswiri offers the option of individual bookings or exclusive use of the lodge for groups. The lodge is ideal for corporate, family / friend groups of up to ten people who do not wish to share the facilities with other guests. Motswiri is a mere 3- 1/2 hours drive from Johannesburg or for utter indulgence, guests can opt for a fly-in safari to the reserves all weather airstrip. Scheduled daily charters are available via the Federal Air Madikwe Charter Joint Venture Partnership. Lodge tariffs include luxury accommodation, two fabulous game drives per day and all meals.

We stayed at Motswiris self-catering 6 sleeper family villa. Zeder was our guide for our stay. We had a wonderful holiday. Zeder was an absolutely fantastic guide. He quickly gauged our bush knowledge and told us new and interesting things about the animals, trees, birds, geology, conservation in Madikwe, etc - we really learnt a lot from him and enjoyed driving with him. We traveled as a group of 6 with one toddler (14 months). Our toddler was allowed on all the drives - and Zeder made a special effort to keep him entertained when he got bored and irritatable. The Motswiri lodge was scheduled for a renovation in 2020. When covid hit - the renovation funds were used to sustain the employees - which is wonderful. The family villa is lovely, but just a little tired. I think this is completely fair give the context and a blessing that the business was able to use this cash to keep their employees through the covid lockdowns of 2020. We will definitely be back. A trip to Motswiri is highly recommended.

The management and staff's friendliness, efficiency and attention to detail is remarkable. They are on a mission to make your stay and bush experience truly fantastic. The chalets are beautifully furnished and together with the main Lodge building are designed for comfort and relaxation. Views of the waterhole also ensure a constant procession of animals, with elephants often gamboling in the mud and water. So you can relax on the deck next to the pool whilst sipping a cool drink and have a passing show. The General Manager of the Lodge, Zede, was our ranger/field guide and his very wide knowledge of flora and fauna, including birding expertise was amazing. He was determined to give us the all round bush experience and information on the history of the area. He was always willing to go the extra mile on game drives to ensure we saw a very diverse range of game and birds. Rudi, the Chef, produced some amazingly delicious meals and I defy anyone to try to diet whilst at Motswiri! Our party of 4 would unequivocally recommend Motswiri for a magnificent and very special bush experience. and the pricing is very reasonable for a 5 star lodge.

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful lodge. Our Bungalow (No.4) was right in front of the water hole which was visited from many wild animals all the time. The service of the lodge is excellent !

ALL the staff and amenities make this the best value for money lodge close to Johannesburg - and this is from an experienced bush traveler! Motswiri Lodge in Madikwe is an easy 4 hour drive from Johannesburg. We chose the self-catering lodge that sleeps 6 in a 3 bedroomed (all en-suite) luxury lodge with a fully equipped kitchen, private pool and boma - you could not want for more! We also ate a couple of meals at the restaurant on site - great, value for money, food and service. Arriving "home" after a game drive to find the dinner table set (different theme each night) and the boma fire lit and braai coals ready (plus free wood and ice) is the perfect way to forget all your stresses. The main lodge has an awesome viewing deck overlooking a waterhole 10 metres away - with elephant as regular visitors Having our own game vehicle for the 6 people is a major plus as the lodge could tailor-make game viewing according to our interests. Great sightings are almost guaranteed. We do not easily rate a venue as 5 start, however it is easy in this case - hard to nitpick any faults!
