From the moment we were greeted at the airfield of Madikwe Hills I was impressed. Trevor and Charlie, our guide/trackers for the next few days, took us from the airfield to our stunning accommodation. The lodge has everything that you need and is fully inclusive - you do not want for anything. Our chef Emmah and butler Sello were wonderful - nothing was a problem. We had a few hours to relax outside and then went out on our first game drive. Trevor was like a walking encyclopaedia and literally knew about every bird, insect and animal. He continued like this for the next few days ensuring that we had the best experience and along with Charlie tracking down as many of the Big 5 as they could. We saw giraffes, elephants, Zebras, Wild Dogs and even had the privilege of seeing a Rhino, Cheetah and Leopard. In between the game drives we took advantage of the spa and had some incredible massages that were really reasonable in price. This place is something special and I would highly recommend going to Madikwe Hills for an experience of a lifetime.

First and foremost I've always judged a country, town or place on its people. The staff at Madikwe Hills are the stars of the show! Made us feel very welcome, pampered like princes and princesses - exceptional hospitality.
The cuisine was out of this world. Menu's included meats such as Kudu fillet, Impala fillet and Ostrich fillet...delicious
The accommodation was outstanding - a room overlooking a plain which saw many wildlife such as Buffalo, Elephant, Rhino, Wildebeest, Zebra, Impala and Warthog - and that's even before going on a game drive. Speaking of which, this was a very special occasion regarding spotting animals, in that we were able to sight (very close up) a leopard on our night drive! Spectacular!

Madikwe Hills Lodge is a fantastic place. From the warm welcome at the lodge by Ezelle to unbelievable game drives with Sam and Max, we could not have hoped for a better experience. The accommodations are very spavious and well appointed, each with a view towards the water holes were animals regularly gather and can be viewed from the comfort of your own deck or living room. The restaurant and bar offer delicious drinks and food, and excellent service. Of course the highlight of a stay at a game lodge are the game drives and Madikwe Hills does not disappoint. Our guide and tracker , Sam and Max, were great. We saw many more animals than expected, and learned so much about them. From birds to elephants, lions, cheetahs, many kinds of antelopes, rhinos, and giraffes, Sam's knowledge and desire to show us a s much as possible of this beautiful reserve made for a once in a lifetime experience.

It was a wonderful experience of fine dining great wines gin and tonic sundowners while watching the sun go down in the bush after the most exciting viewing of the big five as well as many other beautiful wild animals.
We were met by the manager, a young man called Hannes who gives you the most wonderful welcome. He immediately makes one feel at home and for us as returned visitors like family. He has a wonderful caring staff nothing is too much trouble for them as their aim is to make your stay as exciting and as comfortable as is possible.
The game drives, twice a day, are spectacular with Lebo and Dwane sharing their immense knowledge with us regarding the reserve and the animals.
And the chefs fed us with the most amazing meals, we tasted springbok, oryx, kudu and ostrich steaks cooked to melt in your mouth. and for those veggies, there were amazing dishes to choose from.. We were also impressed at their committment to provide a green footprint using water dispensers for example instead of plastic bottles and we were all provided with a gift of a reusable personal bottle.
From every room, you can sit in the veranda and watch the animals drinking from a waterhole and the amount of elephants who visit is spectacular with their babies.
We would recommend this wonderful experience to anyone wishing the experience of a lifetime.

Stayed here for the last three nights of our 3 centre South Africa safari trip and it was an amazing end to our holiday. We initially were not happy with our room but we were moved and the second room proved to be a dream location. Between safaris we relaxed for hours on our deck watching the near constant flow of wildlife visiting the tiny water hole in front of us. The food was good, the guide and tracker - Trevor and Sydney - were great fun and all the arrangements went smoothly. We were hoping to return next year but sadly this Lodge doesn’t value previous customers enough to offer any discernible discount which is a great shame and makes us think we shouldn’t worry about being loyal to them and instead try somewhere different That said, I would definitely recommend this Lodge, but not necessarily all the rooms, hence the 4 stars

Dear Canineheaven, Thank you very much for your review. I am glad that you found a room that you loved - we have rooms with beautiful scenic views and rooms with waterhole views. I advise all guests to have a look at our website to see the lodge layout and then to put a request in for the specific room that they would like. We do value all our customers and love to see guests coming back, again and again. Over the past 24 months our return guest percentage is proof of this - it amounts to an average of 17% of our guests. We do not have a permanent set special in place but guests are always welcome to email us to find out what current special is running and what extras are on offer. Regards,

What a fantastic lodge with wonderful people. Hannes, Irene and the team run a really smooth operation, warm and personal in a beautiful location. We have stayed in loads of lodges and this is top notch. The food and accommodations were excellent with fantastic service, Stef, Andrew and Isaac looked after us so well. Game drives were fantastic - great sightings - Benson as our guide and Lebo as our tracker were fantastic and got us really close to the animals while keeping us super safe especially on bush walks. The hot meat snacks at sundowners was a lovely touch and the hand warmers!! Rooms are comfortable with everything you need and most importantly great views of beautiful Madikwe. Will definitely be back.. thanks for having us!

Madikwe Hills is a picture perfect lodge! Words cannot describe how beautiful this lodge is that is nestled into the rocks with beautiful raised walkways, a stunning lodge, and incredible rooms. We were in Room 6 celebrating our honeymoon and couldn't believe how stunning the room was from the bed, to the bathroom built into the rocks, to the the rooftop deck. The game viewing from the lodge deck and rooms is unparalleled. We saw elephants, zebra, giraffes, kudu, warthogs, and more right from our table at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The staff from Hannes the manager, to Andrew, David, and Cheyenne all made our honeymoon so memorable. Lebo was by far the best tracker we had at all three of the lodges we visited! He made our drives so fun and entertaining. We highly recommend this lodge and game reserve for the beautiful mountains, landscape, game viewing, hospitality, and incredible beauty!

Unbelievable experience that you will never forget!
What an amazing lodge situated 15 mins from the Madikwe air strip and 60 mins from the east gate.
Everything was superb from the greeting by the staff, the check in experience, the amazing room, the service from the staff, the game drives, food experience and even to the check out and transfers organised by the lodge.
Brian our guide and Labo the tracker were excellent, and we managed to see everything except a Leopard, with detailed knowledge and up close viewings it was a magical experience!
That lodge is stunning, the rooms are very large and the main lodge with the open fire, wine cellar and outdoor seating for lunch and dinner was wonderful. The food was great and the game and fish options with each meal were enjoyed with the great options of drinks included with the package.
The staff are wonderful - many here for over 10 years shows just how much they enjoy working here!
The only negative was that the food temperature was a little cold on a few nights with a different chef otherwise was a once in a lifetime experience that everyone would enjoy! We hadn’t quite anticipated the early morning temperatures being so low - but the hot water bottles, blankets and ponchos ensured we always remained warm!
We were very sad to leave after 5 nights and 9 game drivers!

Having stayed at many game lodges over the years madikwe hills is without doubt the best there is. The rooms are stunning the food and staff are fab and the game drives are amazing. We had Rowan as our ranger and he was excellent and great fun. Kea looked after us every day in the lodge and hannes was always on hand to check if everything was good with us. I have mobility issues and the lodge very kindly made sure our room was on one level with minimum steps and close to the main lodge. I would def recommend madikwe hills as a must do destination. Thanks guys.

My family and I had the great pleasure of staying at Madikwe for four nights in early June. This was our third trip to Africa and I would say that the stay at Madikwe ranks up there as the best. The accomodations are stunning. Each unit is large, luxurious, private and overlooks an incredible watering hole with frequent visits by a variety of wildlife. The food and services were excellent.
Perhaps best of all was the safari game drives. We had the pleasure of having Benson as our guide and Lebo as our tracker. The skill level of these two rewarded us with sightings of Lions, Wild dogs, Rhinos, and frequent game animals. Cant recommend Madikwe enough!!

Hello Shirley28, Madikwe Game Reserve is owned by North West Parks Board (National Park). We are allowed to go off road in many areas but there are some areas where off loading, for example on the plains where the soil is sensitive. Some areas have too many rocks which makes off-roading impossible. There are rules in place with regards to how many vehicles are allowed in a sighting - limited to maximum 3, sometimes even 2 vehicles. No guests are allowed to drive themselves around on game drive roads so you only see proper game drive vehicles driven by qualified field guides. All field guides are in contact with each other via radio so they work together to track and find animals. Regards, Regards,

Hello Shirley2810, We are open the whole year through, also over Christmas and New Years. On Christmas morning you will go on a 3 hour safari. On return you will enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the main deck overlooking the watering hole. Lunch is served at 13h00 In the afternoon you will go an another 3 hour safari. Dinner in the evening is a lovely buffet including traditional South African dishes. The dining-room is decorated in a Christmas theme. The weather in December is very hot. Day time temperatures average between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius. The evenings cool down to an average of 20 to 30 degrees. It is our rainy season but we live in a semi-desert area so it rarely rains more than once every two weeks. Rain storms are quick, usually less than an hour. We do not experience drizzle often. Since Madikwe is a fenced reserve, the animals are around throughout the whole year. Big 5, cheetahs, wild dogs and a whole bunch of general game. Regards,
