Absolutely superb safari camp!! Staff are brilliant! They go above and beyond to ensure you have a good time,, tents cleaned daily and they even turn your blinds down in evening, food was superb! And there’s absolutely nothing negative I can say, we enjoyed our stay so much we’re going back this year!! Safaris were unbelievable, we saw all the big 5 and more thanks to our great guide Vincent! Would definitely recommend this camp.

My family and I had the best experience at Thakadu camp. All the staff were super welcoming and helped us with whatever we asked. Our ranger, Vincent was exceptionally great and took us to beautiful places in the park and spotted many animals including some rare ones. Will definitely recommend to anyone coming to South Africa!

The location was easy to get to from Pretoria and is in an amazing park. Staff and service were great. Special thanks goes to Vincent, the ranger, who managed to find cheetahs, lions, rhinos, heyenas, jackals and many more. He was also extremely knowledgeable of birds.

An excellent six day stay. The Itinerary was perfect to our needs. Great sightings of animals. Superb food and attentive staff. Accommodation was clean and comfortable. This was our first safari encounter, but we have no hesitation in recommending this location.

All I can say is that NOTHING was out of place during our stay at Thakadu - lodge was great, our tent spacious and furnished well, food very good and game viewing (both from the lodge and on.game drives) exceptional. Staff friendly and go out of their way to please.

It was a wonderful three day getaway. Thakadu River Camp is a delightful place tucked right in the Madikwe Game Reserve.
The service is excellent. The luxury tents are well appointed, clean, comfortable. Good electric sockets to charge your devices and cameras.
The guides are so enthusiastic and informative. Thank you guides Vincent and Billy.
A tip - Do ask for a tent close to the reception or you will need to walk and walk to reach.

I certainly enjoyed my trip and the staff made it more memorable. We had an amazing aha experience worth every money spend. The room was clean, we saw the big 5 in just two game drives, also had a game drive in the rain. Will certainly go back any day

Staff were excellent, very friendly and accommodating. Rooms were good and comfortable. We had some good animal sightings, lots of Elephants. The food however was below average and really needs addressing. More food options need to be available for lunch and dinner.

Well located with elephant viewing daily at the main lodge. Fantastic , friendly and helpful staff. Good food at all mealtimes. Game viewing was great. Perhaps just add Amarula to the morning game drive coffee stop :-)

This was my second visit.
From check in to check out everything was really good.
The room was very comfortable as was the bathroom.
It was rather chilly when i visited so the electric blanket was most welcome.
Nice log fire in the restaurant.
Nice atmosphere in the Restaurant and choice of food good.

1. August is probably the coldest month in SA. Although Madikwe has moderate winters, morning and evenings can be fairly chilly. Definitely long pants, beanies and scarfs recommended. On the vehicles ponchos are available, but dress warm. Layering recommended. Even in Africa 3 degrees is cold 2. Days cam be very pleasant. Spending time at pool on the deck; - yes. Swimming for the brave. 3. Small curious shop available. Payment in Rands. Cards accepted. Normal SA restaurant prices. 4. Re plugs; can 't say. SA 2 prong plugs similar to continental Europe.

Hi, it may be a bit of a rush but you will be able to leave by 9:15am. Chat to the lodge so you can check out and settle your bill the night before and arrange a breakfast pack because you will not have time for breakfast. Let your ranger know as well so he can make sure to get you back in time. What time of the year are you planning to go - in the winter months the game drive leaves a later.

The tents are closed tight and also have doors, as the structure is partly built in bricks. Be careful as the monkeys are super fast at sneaking inside the tent, they are always after the sweets and sugar sachets.

We drove ourselves to Takadu river lodge but l know a trusted shuttle service that l can recommend. They operate in Johannesburg and take customers to Madikwe, Pilanesberg and Kruger. They pick you up from the hotel or the airport. I have used their service several times. Contact Alan Bilbrough - African Journeys
