From start to finish our stay here was amazing
Game drives started at 5:30am and again at 4pm . During the day we chilled by the pool and watched the animals in the watering hole , which in itself was amazing
Taino was our driver and he did everything he could to make our game drives special
We managed to see the 4 out of the big 5.
Elephants , Rhino , Zebra Giraffes and lions to name but a few
The drinks nibbles and blankets provided were also a special touch during the drive
Food was very tasty and service impeccable
Would I recommend this place ?
Most certainly yes .
We will treasure our memories forever
Thank you so much

My 3 daughters and I spent 3 nights at Thakadu River camp at the end of June this year. We had the best time! The game viewing was excellent, our ranger Tsolo was fantastic and the camp was incredible. The game life around the camp was something very special, having lunch on the deck with elephants walking past was a highlight! All the staff at the camp could not have been more hospitable, and made us feel truly welcome. We will most definitely be back. Thank you to everyone who made our girls break such a treat!

We absolutely LOVED Thakadu River Camp. We truly felt like we were having an authentic African safari experience - while living in comfort, eating exquisite food, and being treated kindly and thoughtfully by the staff. We enjoyed every moment and would definitely love to return!

My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thakadu. All the staff are incredibly friendly and efficient and the camp is run to a high standard. Tsholo our guide ensured that we "found" the game and had excellent viewings. I highly recommend this community run camp in such a lovely reserve.

I was supervising a student working at Thakadu and was accommodated for one night at the lodge. The accommodation and food was very good. Staff very friendly and accommodating of my needs. While I did not participate in any game drives activities the other guests did and loved it. There is a lot of game and birds around the camp should one decide to relax on the stoep. This is a community run lodge and I would recommend that anyone wanting to visit Madikwe book at Thakadu.

We stayed in two tents here, and I have to say AC in a tent was a new one for me, but greatly appreciated during the heat of summer. Our drive was Satiss, and he's an absolute gem. Game here is crazy plentiful. Before I lost count, we had 15 rhino sightings (including one black), 5 wild dogs sighted, 5 lions (2 males), and far too many elephants to count, including one here one of 22.

Food was splendid and huge portions. You must go to the deck area at the end opposite the tents to see what is playing in the water. An elephant entertained us and seemed to take as much joy frolicking in the water as we enjoyed his antics.

Staff here was top-notch. I have no complaints whatsoever!

We recently spent a wonderful weekend at Thakadu celebrating my sister-in-law's birthday. From the minute we arrived to the time we left we were spoiled by the staff and felt like A-listers. Vincent and Gery, our game rangers, were outstanding. Their bushcraft, tracking skills, knowledge of the animals (big and small) was simply incredible and made for exceptionally memorable game drives. We saw cheetah, wild dog, lions (twice), ellies, numerous birds and raptors and so much more. It is clear that these two gents love what they do and relish sharing their experiences and knowledge with guests. Patience and Priscilla in the front of house were kind, welcoming, and ever so professional. I will highly recommend a stay at Thakadu any time you're considering a bush break.

It was raining when we arrived, and we were greeted with umbrellas and a warm lunch. The lodge is beautiful, and the food outstanding. Our rooms were tents, but they are much, much nicer than "glamping." They have full bathrooms and air conditioning. Our beds were turned down for us each night. On safari, we saw four of the big five game the very first night. The next day we watched lions eat a freshly killed zebra. We saw dozens of kinds of animals up close over the three days. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and patient. I highly recommend Thakadu!

1. August is probably the coldest month in SA. Although Madikwe has moderate winters, morning and evenings can be fairly chilly. Definitely long pants, beanies and scarfs recommended. On the vehicles ponchos are available, but dress warm. Layering recommended. Even in Africa 3 degrees is cold 2. Days cam be very pleasant. Spending time at pool on the deck; - yes. Swimming for the brave. 3. Small curious shop available. Payment in Rands. Cards accepted. Normal SA restaurant prices. 4. Re plugs; can 't say. SA 2 prong plugs similar to continental Europe.

Hi, it may be a bit of a rush but you will be able to leave by 9:15am. Chat to the lodge so you can check out and settle your bill the night before and arrange a breakfast pack because you will not have time for breakfast. Let your ranger know as well so he can make sure to get you back in time. What time of the year are you planning to go - in the winter months the game drive leaves a later.

The tents are closed tight and also have doors, as the structure is partly built in bricks. Be careful as the monkeys are super fast at sneaking inside the tent, they are always after the sweets and sugar sachets.

We drove ourselves to Takadu river lodge but l know a trusted shuttle service that l can recommend. They operate in Johannesburg and take customers to Madikwe, Pilanesberg and Kruger. They pick you up from the hotel or the airport. I have used their service several times. Contact Alan Bilbrough - African Journeys
