My wife and 2 teenage daughters stayed in rooms 2 and 3 at the charming Buffalo Ridge for 6 nights from 17th January 2020. Our ranger was Franco who was exceptional as were the rest of the staff. Franco tried very hard to show us many animals: only the leopard eluded us but this was compensated by very special sightings of other animals. E.g. giraffes play fighting; a solo elephant having a shower; a lion roaring etc.... The food and accommodation were wonderful and the staff very friendly. Franco kindly took us on a tour of the staff's village Lekgophung. We dropped into the primary school and gave them a few things. I encourage others to do the same if you get the chance. The view was amazing and we saw elephants, rhinos and other animals whilst eating our meals. Importantly the vehicles are allowed to go off road in Madikwe, unlike other game reserves we looked at. Our vehicle was open but had a roof. This was important when it rained one morning. We saw vehicles from other lodges that didn't have a roof. We drove ourselves to Madikwe from Johannesburg. (We spent 3 nights in Hunter's Rest which was wonderful too). The drive was easy. Overall I cannot recommend Buffalo Ridge highly enough. Thank you to all of the wonderful staff, especially Franco!

This was such an amazing safari. The whole experience was positive and memorable. That kind of trip that you don't want to end. I would recommend Madikwe at the Buffalo Lodge for your trip if you plan to come to South Africa. The staff is friendly and Franco was a great guide. Be prepared to have the best adventure of your safari life.

We took our four kids (10, 9, 7, 5) here for a five day Safari. From the second we touched our toes on the Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge, it was perfect. The local village runs the lodge, and the people are SO friendly. We had Elliott as our ranger, and he will be someone we never forget. He is kind, wonderful with the kiddies, funny and knowledgeable of the land. And, he must have the best eyes...he can spots things so far away. We were able to tour the local village that runs the lodge. I am so glad the money we paid to the lodge goes to the local school. Amazing. The rooms were lovely. The pool was perfect for an afternoon dip in the water, and spotting the animals off the deck was so much fun. We saw the big four and more (couldn't catch that leopard). Then, coming back to the yummy food made for a perfect end to the day. None of us wanted to leave, and this is a place where we all hope to see again one day. Thank you to all of the wonderful, kind and generous people at Buffalo Ridge. We will have lifetime memories!

Family of 4, (with wife and kids aged 10 and 13), Stayed at Buffalo Ridge for 3 days in August 2019. This is an incredible place to stay. A stunning location, overlooking a hillside with bok and buffalo regular visitors. Almost, but not quite "top end luxury", but not at those prices either. And it's community owned, not "big corporation" owned, so you know your money is going to the right places. The room was brilliant, with its own views and semi-private veranda. Staff were all lovely and friendly. Franco was our guide - absolutely outstanding. He drove us on all our safaris and we were lucky enough to see all of the big 5, including a late evening viewing of the elusive leopard. He also found lovely places to pause each safari for coffee (in the morning) and champagne (strongly recommend requesting this!) in the evening, together with biltong or biscuits. It feels *really* strange, having just seen lions gorging on the remains of a zebra, to drive what feels like a little way away and then get out of the vehicle to stretch your legs! The menu at the lodge is "fixed", which made me a little nervous, but you don't need to worry - the quality of food is excellent and the flavours stunning. All in all an amazing place to stay with an incredible experience alongside!

We stayed for three nights at Buffalo Ridge as part of our honeymoon. It was an incredible experience; we'll never forget it. The three-hour safari drives went by in a flash, and the things we saw were amazing. Elephants, lions, giraffes, rhinos, cheetahs, hyenas, buffalo... On top of that, the rooms are fantastic, with stunning views and interiors. The staff were great (special thanks to Isreal and Franco, our two rangers). The food that they provided was delicious. The kind of standard that you'd expect from a nice restaurant, which isn't what you might expect, given the location of the lodge! All in all, absolutely brilliant, and we'd go back here in a heartbeat. Many thanks to all.
