#7 of 23 Speciality lodging in Madikwe Game Reserve
Travellers' Choice
Safari isn’t just safari anymore…. And game lodges aren’t all alike. Every visit really does need to be special and every moment something to be remembered forever. The Bush House is not your typical Game lodge. The Lodge is set in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve. It is an old farmhouse that after years of family laughter and happiness has been transformed into an inviting and relaxing residence that encourages guests to kick off their shoes and unwind.

Excellent location with lots of animals around the watering hole, lovely rooms and food. Only a few rooms so very peaceful. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Our massage was very good.

The Bush House is a four star lodge but how on earth it could be improved to five star is beyond me as every aspect of our two night stay at the end of June 2008 was absolutely superb. We were treated like royalty. Lovely large rooms, intimate atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff, wonderful food ... I could go on.... On the second night we were the only guests so had the game drives to ourselves and for our evening meal they lit the log fire in the lounge area and set up a dining table there for us. One afternoon whilst relaxing in the grounds we had over 50 elephants at the water hole at the bottom of the garden, a matter of yards away from us. Takes about 4 hours to drive from Jo'burg, and the drive was interesting in itself. At night from Madikwe you can see the

We knew very little about the Bush House before we booked in and were very pleasantly surprised. We had a 4 day stay, which was just the right length for us - wonderfully relaxing, but not too long and plenty of time for fantastic animal activity. There are only 6 rooms at the Bush House and they almost always only book in a maximum of 10 people so it is a very peaceful, small and friendly lodge. The rooms are gorgeous - the shower, bath and bed are all absolutely huge! There are lovely communal areas and huge gardens. And the staff are really friendly. You can spend the time between game drives in the garden, by the tiny pool, walking round the large (electric fenced!) grounds or enjoying the lovely treatments on offer. The gardens and terrace overlook the watering hole,

We had an incredible time at the Bush house. Home away from home for a couple of days. Safari is fantastic at Madikwe! As one of the other guests said: we were spoilt rotten. Loved every minute!
