Stayed in their Lodge for 2 nights/3 days during my recent trip to South Africa in a group
of 11 members from Bangalore(India). very co-operative staff, a understanding Chef, who came to us to enquire our food preference(we were all vegetarians) and served us nice meals,. The safari part was good We had a nice driver cum guide. Early morning safari was worth so that we could see maximum animals, but experienced shivering chill.
totally 4 games drives and had an unique and unforgettable experience.
Clean and nice tent houses in the forest and absolutely no mosquito bites!

We spent three days at Takadu River Lodge. Super!

We were super well received and there was immediately a delicious lunch ready. The food was tasty and good throughout the stay, the service was super.
The game drives were unforgettable. The ranger tried to spot as much as possible and showed us as many parts of the park as possible.

In short, a really really really must see in South Africa!

It is already several years ago that we stayed here (the date mentioned here is not correct). But in our memory this is the best lodge we have ever been to.
First of all we love the concept how this lodge is made by and for the village in teh game reserve. Secondly the "tents" are most luxurous, perfectly mainted with great services, not insects, spider etc, like in other (5 star!) places, great ambience, wonderful food and you feel very welcome.
Madikwe is a great place because you do not need any Malaria vaccination and it appears much more wild life than a Kruger Park, as tourists cannot go around by themselves.
The game drives were great as we had a guide who really knew his stuff. We managed to see the entire big 5. there were very nice fellow guests with which we got in contact and enjoyed the game drives together.
We definitely go back there one day!

We have just spent a night at Takadu, which we liked a lot. Rooms are spacious, beds comfortable, heating in winter and air-con in summer available. Lovely roiboos amenities, tea-making facility, wlan not in all rooms and not for free.
The main building has a small, pretty pool and some sun-loungers.
Food is good and included in the rate.
Twice a day, at 6.15 and 15.30, you are invited to a game-drive. What you see depends on the animals, the ranger and the other guests.
All in all a wonderful experience.

Takadu River Camp Lodge is a wonderful place to stay if you like to be surrounded by great nature: when we arrived, elephants were bathing just in front of the lodge - but you dont need to be afraid of the animals as the lodge is kept safe through an electric fence.
The tents were really nice and cosy and it was not too warm and not too cold (we stayed there during summer time) and it had a good working air conditioner. The rooms were clean and so were all the other rooms like the dining place, the pool and the outside area. When we arrived and after safari, the beds were made and nicely decorated, so that you easily felt like home.
The food and the service was fantastic and we got to talk to nearly everyone working at the wonderful service team. As the Takadu River Camp is partly publicly owned, you can contribute to the local village through staying there. Most of the staff were actually from the local village and it was very nice to talk to them and get to know a little bit of their lives there.
In addition, the food was amazing, especially the dinners and afternoon teas! The meat was perfectly made and the cook surprised us with great deserts, every evening something different.
Additionally, our ranger was very nice and smart, too. We got to see many many animals and also learned many interesting things about the animals, the nature and also South Africa in general.
Furthermore we got an amazingly cheap price through bushbreaks as the aunt of my boyfriend is living in South Africa.
If you want to get to know South Africa and not just want to see everything from a touristic point of view (although it also fulfills all the needs of a tourist as well) as you are able to get to know the people working there, go to Takadu River Camp Lodge!

I can totally recommend to stay there!

We spent 3 nights in Takadu during our August trip in South Africa. The lodge is very well located on the banks of Takadu river, where animals go drinking and you can see them from the balcony of your room (enjoyed also by monkeys which came to visit us every afternoon), The room is a tend on stilts to avoid animals visits, furnished in a sophisticated colonial style, perfectly matched with the gorgeous natural enviroment outside of it. The game reserve and our ranger Lucky were both fantastic and we had the chance to see very closely all the big five, but leopards. The food was very good and tasty, full of different influences (like all south african food), but here it was really special, even if you had no menu and only one selection for each course. We had our dinners always by the fire and I never experienced, in my long traveller's life, such a magic atmosphere!
The only thing that should be enhanced is room heating, which was insufficient to warm the tend up during the chilly winter nights and early mornings.

If you do not mind to live with insects (btw you are in africa), but you'd like to wake up (very early, you must go to safari) by lions' raoring on the other side of the camp, if you are a very romantic person who likes wonderful tent where to sleep (almost on the trees), if you like to go to safari with great ranger and very good food, please go to takadu river camp,
and you will be very very happy.
