We were at the Jamala in February earlier this year (see review below) but felt like taking another safari break. This time, we stayed 5 nights instead of 4 . We are pleased to find that the accommodation, the services provided the staff, the game viewing and the lovely meals were all maintained at the highest standards and we once again enjoyed what can only be described as a dream holiday. Every night for 5 nights, dinner was in a different location. One night, the watch tower was redecorated to give us an unforgettable dinner a deux. As the nights are quite cold now, returning from the late safari to our villa to be greeted by a roaring fireplace was something special. To top it all, on our last night we found our bedroom, sitting/dining room and bathroom lit with candles, petals strewn on the bed and the floor, a hot bubble bath prepared and a bottle of sparkling wine sitting in the ice bucket. To say that we were spoiled is an understatement. What a lovely, touching gesture! Thank you to Nico (general manager), Mr. Steyn (owner), Mike (game ranger) and the excellent staff headed by Precious, Lawrence and Happi. Yes, definitely going back again!

After extensive research, we chose Jamala for our honeymoon and even though we read all the amazing reviews, our stay still managed to surpass high expectation. From the moment of booking/arrival, you will be welcomed and looked after as though you are part of the family. At Jamala, they have thought of absolutely every finer detail to make your stay as special as possible, with many little personalised surprises along the way; they are one step ahead of the game in terms of hospitality and luxury. On our first night, we were offered dinner in our lodge after a long journey. The chef's at Jamala are world class and you will have your taste buds tantalised at every meal. We were incredibly impressed with how Covid secure everyone/everything was, whilst still allowing us to unwind, relax and distance ourselves from the stresses of life - receiving a spa treatment during your stay is an absolute must. We would like to say a special thank you to: Rodney (one of the owners); KG our amazing ranger, who ensured we got to see the most amazing sights and also filled us with knowledge; Lawrence, who was always on hand to look after us and also to every other member of staff. "You cannot leave Africa, Africa said. It is always with you, there inside your head," Bridget Dore said and this pretty much sums up Jamala! If you are looking for a break from reality then look no further, you have found your destination! Stay safe Jamala and look forward to seeing you all again - we are already planning our return!

Jamala has so many wonderful features, along with an extremely hard working staff who demonstrated daily that they care about their guests. Most noticeable was the attention to every detail of decor, service, food, and accommodations!

The exterior grounds are gorgeous, with a variety of flowers and plants to enhance a beautifully detailed landscape. Their watering hole attracts a variety of animals, which allows for a comfortable way to relax while viewing the animals from your villa and/or the outdoor sofas! Once inside the large villa, every room, every wall, every table, shows attention to more lovely details. Our meals were all fine dining, extremely sumptuous and most delicious; again....attention to the details of presentation with exceptionally great taste! Special thanks to Chef Jacque.....every meal was amazing!

Nico and his staff provided a warm, caring service, which made us feel very comfortable. After our stay at Jamala, the other nice, five star lodges did not come close to the amenities, outstanding meals, and overall luxuriousness.

A huge "Thank you" to Nico and the entire Jamala team, for everything you did, to make our stay most memorable and extremely special!
Our stay at Jamala was truly outstanding and exceeded every expectation!

My wife and I have just returned to the UK from the most amazing 5 night stay at Jamala.

Having only done safari twice before our arrival at Jamala, we had a good idea of what to expect however Jamala exceeded all of these expectations.

Every single member of the team were polite, accommodating and very friendly. I couldn't possibly name all of them however our guide was Kagiso (KG) was very knowledgable and friendly along with the amazing GM Nico and owner Rodney. They couldn't have done more for myself and my pregnant wife.

There aren't enough descriptive words to describe how amazing it is having the waterhole literally right in front of the lodge. The sightings from the sofa safari were just as good as any drive we have been on. The last morning was incredible and my both my wife and I had a tear in our eyes. It's such a unique, magical location.

The food each night was fantastic. We never went hungry and the chefs popped our regularly to make sure we were full and happy with the offerings. Which we obviously were, they were great! Not to mention the setting.

Our lodge was very large and had everything we could ever possibly need with a great view overlooking the natural clearing and waterhole. It was surreal having animals casually walk past our room on their way to the waterhole.

Overall this place is really special. The team, the location, the animals, the food! Combined make this place what it is.

It's like your favourite cocktail. Every single element makes it perfect and Jamala is the same.

Thank you everyone for one of the best moments of our lives!!

I actually owe an apology to Rodney as this review should have been done months ago.
My wife and I spent three nights at Jamala Madikwe and we had an amazing time. The animals are plentiful and the watering hole in front of the lodge is great!
This was our fourth Safari and we have absolutely fallen in love with both East and Southern Africa. We wanted to do something in the conservation realm and we were lucky enough to be told about Madikwe and what they do in regards to rhino conservation.
We were lucky enough to so the Rhino Notching. One of the best experiences of both of our lives.
The vets, pilot, military and guides are all voluntary. The only thing that you pay for are the medical supplies and the gas for the helicopter. The Rhino gets darted and once it has fallen asleep everyone works as fast as they can to take measurements of the horns, do some blood-work and take a very small samples of the horn for DNA purposes. This helps keep track of bloodlines as well as keeping track of the rhinos themselves. Poachers that have been caught with a horn that had DNA taken from it have gone to prison for a very long time.
We cannot recommend highly enough that this should be done by guests. It was worth the investment and in a very small way we feel that we were contributing to the survival of these beautiful animals.
Separate form all of that the food, guiding and service were all top notch and we saw everything. We even got to see the Big 5 all on one Game Drive.
Because of COVID travel is obviously delayed but we are working on 2022 and plan to go to Jamala again and we will be doing the Rhino Notching for sure.

This is by far one of the best 5 star lodges in the Madikwe Game Reserve.

Upon entering the lodge, you are captivated by the wonderful views of the watering hole across from the lodge.

We were warmly welcomed by the friendly Jamala team and escorted to a spacious lounge and deck area with great views.

Our Suite was outstanding from the bedroom to the lounge & dining area, huge bathroom with a great outdoor and indoor shower.

A lovely private plunge pool with a sala to relax and unwind in a tranquil and peaceful environment.

The cuisine was superb and fine dining at its best accompanied by exceptional service.

The attention to detail from personalising the menus to the decor throughout the lodge is on another level. Extremely 5 star deluxe with a wonderful outdoor pool | lounge and boma area.

We thoroughly enjoyed our morning game drive and our ranger Lazarus was excellent.

A special Thank You to Rodney | Nico and all the other wonderful team members at Jamala for making this one of the most memorable experiences we received.

Overall - Simply a Magnificent Lodge and I highly recommend a visit to Jamala Madikwe .

Jamala Madikwe is simply perfect. We stayed four days and each one was special. Let me start with the game drives. Our guide Lazzy was from the area. He studied the animal tracks and knew what areas in the park were the favorite of certain animals. We were very lucky to see wild dogs and their cubs, a cheetah, brown hyenas, elephants, lions, rhinos, and giraffes, wildebeest, among others. The watering hole is 30 meters from the couch (hence couch safari) and we saw interactions between all kinds of animals. Next, the food. Jacques whipped up some of the best dishes we ever had, literally taking local ingredients and making them extraordinary. The GM Nico is a world famous chef himself and has a following of his own. His attention to detail and care for visitors is world-class. I corresponded with Rodney, the owner of Jamala, who I saw briefly and liked immediately for his kindness and charm. And the staff - Lawrence, Precious, Caribo (who makes a mean cocktail and please forgive my misspelling of his name) and Kellogs were attentive and fun. Although I never met the maids who cleaned my room, they noticed that I was a jelly bean fanatic but never ate licorice jelly beans. By the third day, they picked out all the licorice jelly beans, so I wouldn't have to do it myself. No request by a guest is too much. Please, do yourself a favor. Stay at Jamala Madikwe. You'll never forget the beauty of the landscape, the incredible villas (we stayed in Villa 1), the sumptuous food, or the staff who are treated like family themselves. A visit never to forget.

Holiday of a lifetime. Luxury beyond my wildest dreams alongside an authentic bush safari experience with dedicated knowledgeable guides, (we saw every single animal we could think of including wild dogs giving chase to impala) superb food (and plenty of it) and charming staff who anticipate your every desire. Every little detail in you villa has been thought of, from cotton wool, hair conditioner and face wipes to decanters of sherry, proper coffee machine and a mini bar bursting with drinks. All villas have private plunge pool, yoga mats, comfy four posters and triple aspect view of the watering hole to wake up to. I have never stayed and probably never will stay anywhere better. Thank you Rodney and staff for an unforgettable three days. Wow.

We have just spent 4 nights with two friends at Jamala. Everything from start to finish was spot on. A brilliant effort from Nico and his team. The villas are superb, beautifully decorated and are huge. The main lodge has a wonderful view over a waterhole, we could have sat there all day long just watching the animals, the villas also have great views. Chef Jacques is brilliant, his enthusiasm is fantastic and the food him and his team produce is amazing. His marinated Ostrich steaks were ridiculously good, try them if offered. Our guide, Niall, was absolutely brilliant, his knowledge of animals, birds and fauna blew us away. Also he is a really decent guy, very funny as well. There is a lovely spa, a gym and a gift shop offering some beautiful things. We came away knowing that we will 100% return, not something we have said of other lodges we have stayed at previously as there are so many to choose from. But Jamala is special and we will return. Many thanks to all at Jamala, your hard work ensures that everyone who visits has a fabulous time.
