Madikwe is a very special reserve and this a very special lodge. Ipodimo is located near the border with Botswana and enjoys stunning views standing as it does on an impressive hillside within the 75000 hectare big five reserve. The layout and accomodation is rather unusual in that the 8 chalets are glass fronted looking out over a waterhole which is visited by all species of the bush at one time or another. The chalets are equipped to meet your every need. They are quite superb in both style and amenities. The general areas are equally magnificent, the large open lounge, library, rest areas and the well kept pool are all locations to enhance your visit. The reserve is malaria free and is only a four hour drive from Jo,burg on good fast and largely empty roads. All meals were extremely good especially the evening dinner where guests are given a choice of menu. The level of service matches the quality of the lodge, again it is first class and you are made to feel both at home yet pampered. Our ranger Sean found all the big five for us and despite the rain we had 3 days of game watching that would satisfy the most discerning critic. The camp is unfenced but fear not you are escorted to your chalet at night (or any other time you wish) but one should be aware that it is on a hillside and the units furthest from the main area involve a climb that could tax those not to nimble on their feet. That said if you have a chance do spend time at Ipodimo you will not be dissapointed.

A big thank you to all at Ipodimo. Just back from a 3 night stay that delivered on all accounts. Fantastic lodge staff (thank you Linda and team) and a terrific ranger (Declan) and tracker (Lotty). You all made our experience memorable. Fantastic accomodation, amazing food (and plenty of it) and each game drive offered something completely different. If you are thinking of Madikwe, do yourself a favour and book Ipodimo.

We have just returned from a memorable stay at Ipodimo. The staff were friendly and welcoming the food was good and Roland and Holiday were magnificent finding wonderful sightings. A minor gripe is that the safe in our room was not working and the game vehicle was very dirty. However, a wonderful experience - thank you!

Fantastic game lodge. Amazing Safari and excellent guiding by Marie ably assisted by Holiday our tracker. We saw absolutely everything including the most amazing sighting of a leopard and Wild dogs. The days were very relaxed despite the early start and all the staff were fabulously accommodating. Food was very good too
We were lucky enough to have rooms over looking Impodimos water hole and saw elephants there every day.
We were travelling in a large family group with 4 children aged 16 to 8. The younger 3 had a fantastic time on the junior ranger safaris and were ecstatic to be made Junior rangers at the end of our stay, thanks to Kayla for making them feel special.

We had a room overlooking the waterhole. Without leaving the chair on the room verandah we had 5 elephants pass within 5 metres to join 20 others in the waterhole. We saw 3 giraffe drinking alongside kudu and baboons. At night a pack of hyena came to drink. A trip to the rooms alfresco shower had to be delayed till the elephant in it moved on.
This place has a fantastic mixture of real luxury and genuine wild. The accommodation is like being in a Hollywood film safari lodge. The food is frequent and outstanding quality. The staff are very skilled and friendly, we took our grandchildren , 4 and 7. Who enjoyed it hugely the kids activities were a hit, especially the dead giraffe.
The game drives use good vehicles and excellent spotters and are real fun.
The density of animals seems lower than Kruger or the Mara but you will see everything you could expect to.Best sight 300 buffalo stampeding at sunset.
Very good value. We have done several safari in several countries but this is the best.

Tutto perfetto. Personale gentilissimo e servizio con mille attenzioni.
Consiglio le camere che affacciano sulla pozza dove vengono gli elefanti ad abbeverarsi.
Rangers fantastici. Abbiamo visto molto animali e siamo stati contenti.
Grazie

I stayed here with my husband, parents and two children (seven and four). We squeezed six game drives into the three days and, to my daughter's glee, we saw the entire cast of the Lion King; right down to the buffalo stampede at sunset and we were within about three meters of two male lions, one of which had been injured in a fight and so had a scar!

Our ranger and tracker were fantastic and we saw a huge number of animals including cheetahs hunting, being right in the middle of a pride of lions hunting or finding a set of lion cubs in the bush eating what their mum had caught them. The only thing we didn't manage to see was the painted dogs although they did come close. During the morning game drive it was nice to stop for a coffee and cake but I loved the portable minibar and being able to have a glass of wine in the middle of the bush watching the sunset. As it was winter, it was much colder at the start and end of the day than expected - I'd not factored in the windchill from being in a moving vehicle.

The food was fantastic, some of the nicest meals I've ever had. The cakes at high tea and the sherries on returning in the evening went down very well. They did their best to cater for the children but, if I'm honest, the food was just too good for what my fussy children are to eat but that's more of a reflection on us than Ipodimo! The staff were lovely with the kids and my seven year old enjoyed the bush walk and the museum talk but it was a bit lost on a four year boy who can't sit still for five minutes. (On a similar theme, Max really struggled with the game drives and slept through most of them. That's not a reflection on Ipodimo but is just a consequence of us doing something that he was too young for. We had a private jeep because of the kids and we needed it just for him to stretch out and sleep or not to disturb others when he was near animals and getting bored waiting), There were some lovely touches like the kids having a personalised colouring book and letter on arrival and getting a different Just So story about an animal as a bedtime story.

The lodges were beautifully furnished and were the luxury I'd hoped for. We were sharing the lodge that overlooked the waterhole and so around game drives, we watched elephants (over 20 at a time), warthogs, zebra, giraffe, hyenas etc while the kids played in the plunge pool or used the outdoor shower while watching the elephants. The animals can genuinely walk anywhere around the reserve - my dad had to turn round and try to get to the main building 10 minutes later after finding a large elephant blocking the path from our lodge. My children loved that this meant we were escorted back to the lodge at night by our ranger with his gun. We had a brilliant stay.

What a beautifully presented lodge. My room had a back deck that looked out over the African bush. I felt like I was in the bush with all the luxury of a five star property. The use of natural products in the rooms and around the lodge add to the atmosphere. The staff are friendly and have amazing stories of the African Bush. The outdoor shower is liberating. Make sure you stay at least 3 nights to get full days of game viewing.
