Our stay at Royal Madikwe was outstanding. We couldn’t have wished for a better start to our honeymoon. The property is fantastic. The staff are so attentive. And the safari was like nothing we have ever experienced. I would return in a heartbeat. Thank you to everyone who made this an unforgettable experience. We will never forget it.

We stayed here in late February/early March in the Lenyalo suite. It was our first time on Safari and it was a fabulous experience. The lodge overlooks a watering hole, and the Lenyalo has the best view of it, about 25 yards from the terrace. Animals come to drink here all the time - mostly impalas, warthogs, zebras and elephants. But sometimes more exotic animals like buffalos, and rhinos. One evening even a leopard passed through! The room has a large and comfortable bed (with mosquito net), and a large bathroom with twin sinks, tub and walk-in shower, and there is also an outside shower. The terrace is a large wooden deck with a plunge pool, sun beds and table and chairs. The room is well equipped with minibar, water dispenser and lots of toiletries. Eating in the lodge is fantastic. We had our personal server for every meal and she was very attentive. The food is fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. Each meal was served in a different location of the lodge, and we were kept distant from the other guests further adding to the personal feel. And there are a lot of meals - you will not go hungry! The management team are friendly and efficient, greeting you on return from each game drive with a hot towel and a drink in the evening. Our safari guide was superb; very knowledgable, with a keen eye and good tracking skills. And his off-road driving was first class . All in all a fantastic experience that I cannot recommend highly enough.

My wife and me travelled to many places around the world, but this Lodge is a place, which burned a mark deep into in our soul. We felt, there is no way to get closer to the nature and the wild animals. This extraordinary experience was accompanied by the excellent staff. Especially of Elaine, taking care of everything we needed. Pearl, (the better name for her would be Diamond) who served as in a way as if we were friends since years and Eva who opened for us the window to the soul of South Africa. The guide Kounrad was one of the best you could have. We thought he could communicate with the animals and they told him where they were. Amazing ! Not to forget all the other staff who served from the background. Never in our life we left a place being so sad to leave ! Will come back soon.

We have not visited Madikwe National Park before and found it very different from the Sabi Sands. It is more open and the roads rougher! We arrived in bad weather so the plane was unable to land at the West airstrip and we had to go to the East airstrip instead and transfer by road to the lodge, a trip that should only have taken an hour but took much longer and we had two separate encounters with male elephants who didn't like the vehicle and also two rhinos. This necessitated much reversing of the car until the animals backed off and left us alone - exciting stuff! We found all the staff to be welcoming and friendly. Particular thanks to Elaine, Eva, Gift, Pearl, Thomas and Amos. We went to this area to try and see cheetah and saw 2 cheetah. We also saw lions, including two magnificent males, lots of elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, rhino, jackal, warthog with young, and several species of antelopes. Dining with a view over the waterhole was a bonus and watching animals turn up to drink. The food was excellent and they catered well for my husband who requires gluten free food. We had a meal in the boma one evening with African dancing and singing by the staff and it was good to see how much the staff enjoyed this, as did we. The only negatives in our opinion were that the rooms need refurbishment as they are somewhat tired and dark and we particularly disliked the animal skin headboard complete with mane (this is a place where people come to watch live animals yet it is furnished like an old hunting lodge). We also felt unsafe with no phone in the room - you are given a two-way radio to call for help if you needed to. Twice we had to use it and both times it was unanswered. Also we are used to a tracker (person sitting on the bonnet) as well as a ranger on the safari vehicle, and used to the ranger having a rifle with him but our ranger was unarmed. Added to this the radio on the vehicle had got wet in a rain storm and didn't work so we felt very vulnerable indeed. Other than these few points, we had an enjoyable time at the lodge.

Dear Royal Friends, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that the staff made such an lasting impression on you both. Yes the game reserve is quite different to the Sabi Sands with much harder terrain however it balanced your trip between the 2 different parks that you visited during your trip to South Africa. And you managed to tick off the cheetah which you came for! The dining with a view of the waterhole is always an extra plus and you never know what might pop in at the waterhole during your meal. We hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Royal Madikwe again. Wild wishes, Elaine & The Royal Madikwe Team
