This was a very magical experience for us because of the people who took care of our stay.

We lodged at the MCH lodge, which is the luxury tent camp at its finest. It’s very intimate, only 4 two twin bed tents are available, and they are tastefully decorated. During our stay we were taken care of like family. Norma the lodge manager coordinated all of our needs without hesitation. She was to the point, and was honest when there was something she could not accommodate. We found her communication with us to be clear and mindful.

Every morning, the staff comes and opens up the tent “windows” (they’re screened, so don’t worry about bugs) and every afternoon they close them up. The rooms have a well fitted air conditioning system to make the evenings nice and cool.

Our game drives were lead by some of the best trackers I’ve ever met - Godlove and Kaiser. Both of these men understood the land and its animals like the back of their hand. They were highly effective together in finding game for us to view, and Kaiser answered our questions without missing a beat. He had a clear answer for anything we were curious about.

The food, was all made custom. And with high quality ingredients. Meals felt like well made food right at home. The staff made sure every dining experience was met to our standards and they created a beautiful ambiance for our dinners. All the food was delicious.

The staff there is so warm, we felt right at home. The chef, Venicia , honored a special request for a challah bread to be made, and she nailed it. Aldrin, the waiter, was there for anything we needed, and Douglas who does the night watch, escorted us in and out of our tents each night.

The actual land has more bush and less open space, so looking for game was a bit challenging for us. Because it’s a private property, the guides don’t have to stay on the roads like in public parks, so it helped with tracking the game.

All in all, we had a fantastic experience. Highly recommended.

Thanks indeed Jonathan for your kind words for the different teams at MCH. Im so glad you were well looked after by Norma and her Team, and of course Kaiser and Godleve. They do have a second sense in the Bush. It is indeed a thick wilderness Area here especially after the rains, but so glad they managed to show you the Animals. Venecia and her Kitchen Team are indeed a gem, and Aldrin and his "Entertaining Style". Best Wishes Bernie

I recently booked out Garonga Safari Camp for myself and 10 friends over 3 nights. For most people it was their first trip to Africa. The whole experience was fabulous. Why?

Firstly reservation process was well handled and communicable.

The transfers from/to Hoedspruit airport were comfortable and on time - takes about 90 minutes. our driver going in was very chatty which created a lovely tone for the adventure ahead.

Welcome from the Manager was warm and as everyone had done their indemnities prior we were escorted to lunch which was delicious overlooking the active waterhole (warthogs, impala, zebra, giraffe) In fact, lots of bushbuck around the tents and can you imagine the delight when one of my friends whilst having an outdoor shower had a giraffe walk past - Lesley said she could even see its eyelashes! Elephants also in camp one night and we heard lions roaring thru the evening which to me is the quintessential sound of Africa.

The spacious and luxurious tents are extremely comfortable with both inside and outdoor showers, hammocks, comfortable bedding and a teddy to keep watch over you (how cute!)

The Lodge is beautifully appointed with the pool which also overlooks the waterhole and riverbed offering great respite from the heat after brunch - a few bottles of wine and many laughs occurred here each day. our group like a few wines but no one over indulged which I think the Lodge staff appreciated and it was a great spot for some bonding.

The game drives produced great results with many sightings of black and white rhino, lions mating, with cubs, lions roaring, leopard, buffalo, elephants and hyena plus lots of general game.

Our final evening was fun - had a star bath and danced under the stars.

Thank you to Bernie the owner and all the staff from the Lodge and reservations for your professionalism, care and excellent hosting.

We went to Garonga for the first stop of our honeymoon and it was incredible! The accommodation was stunning, the staff were so great, and the animals were amazing!

Our luggage got lost in Johannesburg, and the staff at Garonga did everything they could to help. They made sure our clothes were cleaned ASAP, they called the airline to chase them up on getting our luggage, and even provided us with some of their clothes so that we would be warm enough! We can’t thank them enough for doing everything they could to reduce the stress on us for the beginning of our honeymoon!

Our guide for the drives was so friendly and fun, and able to provide us with so much information. The amount of knowledge he had was unbelievable. He even took the time to explain how they tracked animals, which was so interesting!

And the animals were breathtaking. I’ve never done a safari before, so being so up close to lions and elephants and more was an unreal experience! We were there for 4-5 nights and we managed to see the big 5 and a huge variety of other wildlife as well.

Overall, I would thoroughly recommend Garonga to everyone, it is truly an amazing place!

What an amazing place! The staff are all outstanding and our combo of Bongi and Norman on our game drives were fantastic! The location is amazing as you can watch wildlife right from your deck or even the pool. The food is also outstanding and they were so thoughtful working with any dietary needs. The small atmosphere is great and provides a really special experience. I went with friends but plan to return with my husband.

The safari was fantastic with our guide and tracker doing their all to find as many animals as possible. The guide was also very good at explaining things from animals to plants to dung. The fact that the rooms and communal area overlooked a watering hole was also great as it meant you could also watch animals from your room or while having your meals. The food was great and the kitchen staff were very accommodating of our groups gluten allergy and vegetarian requirements; adapting the menu for the day to fit. The room and facilities were exceptional given the location - the best shower we have had during our time in South Africa.

Overall amazing experience and would strongly recommend to all.

12 of us (6 couples) booked this safari trip thru ATR Safari. We had the entire camp to ourselves as there are 6 "tents" to this Garonga site. (1 of 3 sites on their huge property).
I cannot stress the high level of attention to detail that is paid to EVERY aspect of this "camp". The accomodations are just as pictured on their website and facebook page - so beautiful and comfortable. The food quality and presentation is that of a refined restaurant. The morning and evening drives with so many sightings, and interactions with the wildlife are unreal! The safari staff were so engaging, knowledgeable and caring about our safety and the animals well-being. The lounge/dining area and kitchen staff are there to try to satisfy your every need (and they did!) The food is INCREDIBLE (think gourmet dinners, full breakfast with many add ons and fresh, delicious, light lunches; because you've had so much at breakfast and know that dinner is going to be extrodinary!) It is obvious that the eco-system is at the top of their mind, and it is evident through their practices of doing what is best enviromentally for the land and the animals
Thank you Garonga, this truly was a trip of a life-time <3
**we added on 3 nights in Capetown and 2 nights in the Winelands - all arranged by ATR Safari

Steph the Manager and her team ensured a personal experience where everything ran smoothly. It was a very special experience, from start to finish. Our Trackers/Guides (i.e Kaise and Gladstone) were amazing and went above and beyond to ensure our wildlife adventures were as best they could be. Colin ensured we were safely escorted to/from our gorgeous room/tent - each of the six tents/rooms overlooked the water hole where animals were in abundance.
The food, service and atmosphere were exactly what we had hoped for and the people we met made our experience even better. We were very lucky.
There are so many choices and price brackets available and it is a nightmare to choose and very much personal choice. However, for us Garonga would be extremely hard to beat and I will never forget the many wonderful memories we made there. Thank-you.

We booked at the last minute and everything went extremely well
The staff were professional and efficient, Naomi the manager made us feel welcomed and looked after us very well
The Guide Josiah, tracker Bongani and Kennedy the safari vehicle that we travelled in, did everything in their power to ensure that in basically one day (4 drives) we saw all of the big 5, we saw Rhino, Lions, Elephants, Leopard, buffalo, then we saw cheetah, which was a very rare event as there are very few around, we saw some of the ugly 5, hyaena, gnu, Malibu stork, White backed vultures, warthog, some of the small 5, leopard tortoise, ant lion, buffalo weaver and rhino beetle, then we saw some of the delicious 5, Impala, Nyala, Kudu, Wildebeest, Grey duiker, Klipspringer, Steen Bok, then Bushbuck, water Bok, Zebra, Chameleon, Giraffe, Banded mongoose, Dwarf mongoose, plus a whole lot of birds, the first European bee-eaters as they landed from their migration from Europe, etc. etc.
This was done by reading a proverb at the beginning of each game drive to bring luck, then the bones were thrown, and I have digital proof that this works, the bones said that we would see lions on the road and to the left of it and we did 30 minutes later ☺. We traversed the property from North to South and East to West, West to South, north to east. Thank you guys you did a fantastic work and your enthusiasm for your work was superb. Appreciated.
The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, the bed was great the outside shower also fantastic even if the velvet monkeys thought that we looked very strange without clothes on ☺
The view from the room was fantastic looking onto a water hole.
The food was delicious and the tables always Setout beautifully the waiters and kitchen staff looked after us very well and as it was my wife's birthday, they made a delicious cheesecake on top of. Guys the service was fantastic, thank you.
So, in short, a fantastic place to go to with fantastic people who work there who have a passion for their work, for nature and what they do.
Will be going back, to do it all again, thank you very much for a fantastic two nights, 4 drives, and two days there.

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank Garonga Safari Park for playing an amazing part in our honeymoon.

Let's start with the team; the Game Reserve management team was incredible from the moment we got there, making us feel like we were the only couple there with their attention and service.

On safari, our guides, Bongie and Norman, gave us an experience we'll never forget - at times being arm's length away from the Big 5 and more, not once did it feel unsafe. Their skill in tracking down animals was amazing to witness, and getting to know the guys was great too.

The food was insane, when the Chef came out I had to know her story

We experienced the 'Sleep Out', Massages, and the Star Bath...if you can do them all, I recommend doing them all. We're so glad we did.

We also got to meet the owner, Bernie, which added a nice personal touch.

If you're thinking about a safari, Garonga has to be in the mix.

Thanks, everyone, and good luck Norman... you'll make an amazing guide.
Eddie

We had the most amazing 6 night stay in the luxury tents in Garonga in October. We arrived to a warm welcome from Norma who looked after us like we were family the whole stay. All the camp staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. I’m quite a foodie and the food simply couldn’t have been better. The lodges are stunningly beautiful and luxurious with the outdoor and indoor showers, double sinks and large comfortable beds. We did the sleep out experience which I was quite nervous about, feeling a little reassured that we could call on the radio and be picked up at any time during the night but it actually turned out to be great fun with dinner on the deck and I had the best night’s sleep, we didn’t once contemplate going back early. Our game drives were amazing, leaving every day at 5:45am and 4pm. With our amazing guide, Keyser and either Norman or Gladstone as spotter they worked really hard together to ensure we saw so much wildlife during our stay. One of the highlights was seeing the cheetahs with a recent kill: gory but nature as it truly is. I also absolutely loved the hippos. This lodge is definitely an experience worth splashing out on!
