This was our family’s first time on safari. We chose Ecca Lodge because we were told it was kid friendly (our boys are 5 and 7) yet a high end experience. In short, it did not disappoint. The highlights, of course, are the game drives and all the animals you end up seeing. Each day and each drive was different. The top experiences were finding a mother cheetah making a kill and bringing it back to her babies, having a black Rhino come within just a few meters of our truck, and watching two leopards mating! These were all breathtaking and incredible experiences. We were lucky to have Niko as our ranger and Ivan as our tracker. They are so knowledgeable and patient and great with kids. Niko taught our kids games he played as a kid in the bush. And one morning while my wife and I got massages, he took the kids out fishing. The kids loved them both and still talk about them and pretend to be Ivan or Niko when we go on hikes. The staff overall and great and very accommodating. They are super flexible to our needs and make anything seem possible. You also never have the opportunity to be hungry, as you can be fed up to seven times a day! We particularly enjoyed the surprise stops in the bush for either morning coffee/hot chocolate and snacks or the evening cocktails and snacks. The rooms are huge, so nicely equipped and very private. And the staff seemed to make it up almost 3 times a day. As this was our first safari, we have no benchmark for comparison. But we loved everything about Ecca lodge. The only opportunity for improvement I could suggest is to have more organized kids programs. Child minding was free but they didn’t seem to have a whole lot of activities organized. It didn’t detract from our experience - but could be an opportunity for an even better one.

We saw so many incredible cats here and the driver and tracker were amazing when it came to tracking down the animals. Our 2.5 year old also came over in the afternoon drives and the babysitting and laundry service was free. Food was brilliant as well. The room was a L shape so allowed space for both us and our daughter, giving us privacy but knowing she was safe.

We have just had the most wonderful five nights at Kwandwe Ecca Lodge. We were welcomed warmly and made feel right at home straight away. We were introduced to Grant (our Ranger) and then met our Tracker (Vuyani). We had them for the five days and they were awesome. The animals we encountered were amazing. Every day was different. We visited the Community Centre which was also very nice to see. We also did the white rhino trekking on foot which is something we won’t forget :-). Ranger Chase joined us for that hike and was also excellent. The accommodation at Ecca Lodge was top class and the food was perfect and our two teenage boys really enjoyed the whole experience. We also met some lovely fellow travelers. What was also impressive was the entire staff team at Kwandwe were all very friendly and clearly enjoyed working together. Would we return - 100% yes.

We left Kwandwe yesterday after a wonderful few days. We were originally booked in for 3 nights but on the third day added an extra night as we were not ready to leave. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were looked after and made to feel welcome and comfortable. There were some exceptional special touches. Emma the lodge manager and her staff organised a birthday cake and lovely present for our youngest son. The staff came and sang to him and the whole evening was lovely. The food and drink in the lodge was very good. We had two days where we had lunch out on our game drive. The first was a lovely picnic set up in the bush. The second was a full hot meal set up in a beautiful setting by the river with wine and drinks. The braai steak was very tasty. The real highlight were our game drives led by our Ranger Nick and tracker Banana. They really made this holiday amazing. Banana is a lovely man with an incredible gift for spotting wildlife. He was also incredibly hospitable, served amazing G and T and hot chocolate and would always join in with the kids games. Nick was amazing. He was incredibly knowledgable and enthusiastic and could explain almost any question extremely eloquently. His breadth of knowledge from insects to Hippos and everything in between was superb. He took time to answer our questions and made sure every drive was to our liking. Even more exciting was that on the first drive we saw lions feeding on a fresh Kudu kill. On our second day Nick and Banana were skilful enough to get us into position to watch a successful hunt by a pride of 3 lions on an Oryx. On each drive Nick and Banana always made sure we were comfortable and well looked after with snacks, drinks and hot water bottles! As my son said this was the best holiday ever. Thank you to all the staff at Kwandwe, we will be back.
