We recently enjoyed 5 wonderful days at Umlani Bushcamp and wish we had been able to stay longer! Mikayla and her staff were warm and welcoming and the property rustic and immaculate. The lodging in the reed huts were so comfortable and relaxing. We loved the outdoor showers! The food was family style and very delicious and the dining experience exceptional. As great at the property is it is truly overshadowed by the beauty of the African Bush. Our ranger, Big A and our tracker, Lucky were relentless in pursuit of the wildlife and shared amazing knowledge of the flora and fauna of the area. It was truly awe-inspiring to spend time with these incredible gentlemen in an area that they know so well. Our game sightings were spectacular including a leopard in broad daylight. Overall, if you are considering a stay at Umlani, book it and add a couple extra days, You won't want to leave.…
We travelled as a family to umlani. We were welcomed by michaela , Joanne and Elvis and others and absolutely treated as family from the first minute. The place is rustic and classy. That it is only rated three stars is a factor of South Africa’s idiotic rating system. It doesn’t have a spa and massage and the frills. The bungalows are very , very comfortable, the food is outstanding. The staff and drivers/trackers are extremely focused on catering to your needs. I would rather go here again than any of the fru fru 5 star lodges for the authentic African experience
This was our second visit and well worth it. The team could not have been nicer and accommodating. Elvis and Ephraim were a brilliant ranger team who just made every game drive special. I could not recommend Umlani highly enough. We are already discussing our next visit.
We fell in love with Umlani and the incredible SA bush during our 7 night stay. Our ranger Murray and tracker Clarence gave us the most magical experience we could hope for and Marco the owner has created something truly special. Marco and Murray joined us for most meals and their obvious passion for the bush and the wildlife within it added greatly to our experience. The food was amazing and nothing was too much trouble for the whole team. We saw the big 5 within our first 24 hours and had time between game drives to just relax and absorb our incredible surroundings.
This was our first safari experience and we had the most amazing time!! From the moment we arrived the umlani bushcamp staff were warm and welcoming! We loved the early morning and evening fires, getting to know the staff, and of course, the efforts that our guides made to point out animals and share interesting facts. The camp is homey, the food is delicious, and it made for the perfect way to get an authentic safari experience. My family and I would highly highly recommend Umlani to anyone!
This was our 4th safari in Kruger/Greater Kruger and by far Umlani was our most enjoyable authentic bush experience ever. The staff was so welcoming, the accommodations very authentic and comfortable, we loved the outside shower. We loved the campfire in the morning with coffee/tea prior to game drive, game drives were so enjoyable with the vehicles, small groups, and we really appreciated how few jeeps that would be at one big kill or pride of lions not 20 jeeps!!! Everything was a touch of class, from "bush babies" and blankets to delicious meals with all the lovely touches. We will now make Umlani our return safari destination, best ever!!!!
This was my second visit to Umlani Bush Camp, if you are looking to breakaway from the stresses of everyday life then Umlani is the place to be. A complete immersive and off the grid experience, your senses will be heightened as the sun sets. Well done to Marco and family for creating such a special place for us to enjoy.
We spent four nights at Umlani made memorable by the hospitality and friendliness of our host Marco and the entire staff. Meals were creative, healthy and delicious with a wide selection of beverages. The guides and trackers went out of their way to make each game drive a success. Animal sightings were plentiful with Elvis always on the "ready to go"! We saw the big 5 along with hippos, pack of wild dogs, and a cheetah with her 3 cubs. Highlights included a memorable viewing amid crackling sounds from a leopard perched high above a tree enjoying her fresh kill while a hyena waited below for falling remnants and a large group of female lions strolling down the dirt path with baby cubs playfully in tow. A daily bush walk and day time or overnight visit to the tree house also should not be missed. What made Umlani special is the infectiousness of the warmth and friendliness generated from the hosts and Umlani's intimate setting. We enjoyed getting to know each and every guest trading backgrounds, experiences, photos, and viewings from the day. I can't even begin to describe how Marco and the entire staff truly went out of their way to ensure a wonderful experience at Umlani.…
Umlani is what lodges in the bush should be. Simple but efficient, good quality of food and beverage, great location with a view to a water hole. Management and staff together with guides and trackers made our stay memorable. Animal sightings are very reasonable ( saw the big five). The only recommendation to even improve Umlani experience is to limit number of people per jeep to 6.
It is truly rare to find a place where their own advertising photos do not even begin to capture the magic that is Umlani. My husband and I spent a blissful three nights and packed in more adventure than would be believed. We had just come from another camp where we had good food, good accommodations and good sightings. But at Umlani.. our accommodations were amazing- showering by moonlight or in the warmth of the sun is unforgettable. The eco-hut far surpassed our expectations- clean, safe, and comfortable. And the night in the treehouse? We will never forget watching the animals at the waterhole, being awakened by lions roaring, and the hyena under the tree. The food at Umlani- among the best we have EVER eaten, Fresh ingredients, simply but creatively prepared. The impala lasagna was drool-worthy. Almost as good as the food is the introduction of it by the miraculous and joyful kitchen staff. We enjoyed trying local foods that were not "too out there" for our non-adventurous palate. We saw the big 5 on our first day, and so many other animals, too. The guides seem to enjoy searching for the animals you would like to see, and are quick to share facts about each. Our host Micheyla and her team do EVERYTHING to ensure your every need is fulfilled before you ever knew you needed it. And what the photos will never convey is the warmth of the greetings, the kind and gracious interactions between the staff whose longevity at Umlani speaks volumes... Five star "camping". I cannot wait to return.…
