The magic of Africa comes alive in the elegant &Beyond Ngala Safari Lodge, a timeless bush lodge ideally positioned on a private concession within South Africa’s largest and most well-known game reserve, the Kruger National Park. &Beyond Ngala Private Game Reserve not only offers one of the most incredible Big Five wildlife experiences, but also an intimate one due to exclusive traversing rights on 14,700 hectares (36,000 acre) of wilderness land. Safaris are led by expert &Beyond-trained ranger and tracker teams, that ensure sensitive off-roading practices to allow close-up game sightings of elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe and more. Tucked under a canopy of mopane and tamboti trees, Ngala Safari Lodge boasts 20 classic thatched cottages, including three family cottages and a family suite. The lodge’s swimming pool and sundeck overlook a natural riverine woodland and is often frequented by thirsty elephant passing by.

We just returned from our first Africa trip, staying while in Kruger at Ngala and then going south to Sabi Sands. We are glad we stayed at the main lodge vs the tents etc, as everything was quite convenient. The hospitality and service were very good, with all staff striving to make you feel welcomed. With 20 rooms, they are still able to keep it feeling intimate and personal with an assigned butler and security (to escort you outside in the dark).

We loved seeing the elephants at the pool, and other animals who visited. The breakfast was ok (for example, pancakes way too sweet), but the lunches and dinners were very good. We appreciated the change of lovely dinner venues!

Our tracker Chris was amazing, and our guide Steve was too. Several times, we just couldn't fathom how we would find an animal (such as the white lions), and behold out of nowhere they'd appear! We saw so many animals at very close range ... tons of lions, giraffes, elephants, etc and even wild dogs and a honey badger! They were both interested in helping us (and others) see our priorities. The landscape and animals vary around Kruger, so we were glad we were able to spend time at two private reserves! And as a side note, my medium range camera lens was sufficient given how close we were able to get!!

The rooms are very nice - lovely covered patio with sofas, well set up and beautiful room, our only very minor complaint was that the hair dryer they provided was two pronged and didn't fit any plugs but the side of the bed. Bathroom is light filled, airy and spacious... the shower floors (as I believe the rest of the bathroom) are cement, so it would help to bring water-safe flip-flops. The indoor shower was my least favorite aspect.

I've already recommended this lodge to our family, and recommend to you as well!

This was one of the most amazing places I've ever been to. Their food is soooo good! Elephants come to visit the swimming pool a couple of fo times during the day and that makes you feel in nature. Remember: this is not a fenced facility. They really come because they learn where to get easy water. This is a highlight!
Mama Cony is such a good person and makes you feel at home.
The staff is always very helpful and polite. There's one special worker for your room every day and they call you by name and knows everything you like.
The safaris are awesome!!!! 2 per day: one in the morning, another in the afternoon.
Such an experience!!!!! I wanna come back here again and again.

We spent 4 nights here and had an incredible experience. The food and lodging accommodations were solid- better than what you'd expect for being in the Bush- but the staff is responsible for earning a 5 star rating.

Specifically, our ranger, FRED, and spotter, WISEMAN.
Fred is in a league of his own and if you decide to go here I highly recommend requesting Fred. Friendly, well trained, and a great conversationalist. Fred is passionate about his craft and there's nothing he'd rather be doing.
His excitement mirrored ours as first timers- only he knew everything about everything going on around us.
Wiseman had the best eyes and was able to spot a chameleon in the dark with his flash light while we riding in the jeep!
Wiseman could hear lions calling when we couldn't, he could walk on foot by himself, climb trees, and overall ensure the protection of the guests.

This was certainly a unique experience and we will be back!

Second leg of our New Year’s Trip.

After some search, we decided to stay at this property inside Kruger Park. Everything here is a remarkable experience. It was our first “wild” safari. The hotel provides two daily trips to the reserve, at 6 am and at 4 pm, with a ranger and a tracker so we can see the best spots and animals.

Our guides, Tessa and Trico were essential, kind and knowledgeable about everything. And super fun.

Hotel installations are amazing, spacious rooms carefully designed and cared for. Service is of the highest quality.

Meals are very good as well, dinner sometimes accompanied by a party, with local songs and traditional dances.

And you can always be surprised by animals throughout the lodge, which adds to the experience.

Definitely a must do. In our case, a must repeat.

The professional and personable staff was incredibly attentive to our family in every way and made for such a relaxing, interesting, exciting, memorable, special and fun experience. Our family members on trip age from 7 years - 75 years and the entire stay was perfect for each and every one of us. The gift shop took care of our needs when one of our luggage pieces didn't arrive and then the staff at the lodge went back to the airport to retrieve it for us the next day when it arrived (which is 2.5 hour drive one way). The lodge and accommodations are safe, elegant, clean, & comfortable. We loved the outdoor shower option! The food is fantastic and very accommodating to kids/picky eaters. My children randomly asked for a bowl of chips when pool side and next thing I know the staff brought out a bowl of freshly baked potato chips. Amazing!
Our guide Daniel and ranger Thomas were fantastic!! So incredibly knowledgeable as they shared the beauty and wonder of the bush while providing us up close experiences with the BIG 5. And Daniel took special attention with our children in teaching them about the wild animals in the bush. We all felt melancholy when our time at the lodge ended. We absolutely recommend this very special place to everyone!

This Safari exceeded all our expectations. The property is stunning, and bigger/better than we saw in the pictures. We drove with Dyke and Geddes and we were so lucky to have such experienced rangers with us. We were also lucky to not have a packed vehicle — it was like a private tour! We got great weather and all the big 5 and more, including the white lions. The fact that it’s an unfenced property and AndBeyond’s conservation and community efforts made us feel even better about our stay and the company we were touring with. We were very well fed and taken care of at the lodge between drives. Some words of caution for first timers like us: beware of the baboons - they got into our room and stole some snacks, and keep an eye out for hyenas too. Luckily, you’ll have security to escort you at night. And keep in mind - you’re still in the bush, so while they keep the property and rooms meticulous, there was still a lot of bugs. We truly can’t wait for our next safari, and are so grateful to the AndBeyond Ngala team for an unforgettable experience.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in January and I cannot explain how unbelievable and magical our time was here. From the warm, welcoming, professional staff to the drivers and guides on the game drives. Lovely personal and thoughtful touches too such as the rose petal bath and candles in our room, the surprise personal dinner for two set up in a separate room, the welcome gift, and the last night campfire. Honestly will never get over just how memorable this experience was. Could not recommend this enough

Wow, this was our very first safari experience and it did not disappoint! My husband and I were so excited to finally be on our honeymoon in South Africa. From the moment we arrived, the service was incredible.
The warm/cold towels when arriving and after game drives, The welcome back drinks ready for you, it all made it very special. We loved our room (21), it felt like one of the more private rooms on the property. I loved the bathtub and outdoor shower ! We loved our guide Mac. You can really tell he loves being a guide and would get just as excited as us when there was a good wildlife find. We are able to see so many elephants, giraffes, rhino, lions (even the rare white lion ), hippos, hyenas, and on our last game drive we saw the elusive leopard! There were two other couples that were on our game drives with us that we became friends with that made the safari experience even more fun. During the morning and evening game drives you make a stop in the bush for some drinks and snacks.
Matt who I believe is the assistant manager, always made sure to check in with us to see how are day was going and if we had everything we needed.
A huge highlight of our stay was seeing over 20 elephants including a few babies coming up to the lodge pool for a drink!
We really enjoyed our first safari experience as Ngala and hope to return someday.
Unfortunately we mostly had cloudy and rainy weather during our stay so no stars or sunsets but a big plus is that we were not hot during the game drives. They provide ponchos to wear and also provide amazing binoculars to use as well.

Absolutely amazing stay. Ngala is safari 2.0 and perfect for anyone who has been to the Sabi Sands and looking to do something a little different. Ngala is a massive private reserve with an intentionally less developed road system leaving the area much wilder and less traversed than the Sabi Sands. You definitely have to have patience in your game viewings as sometimes the driving is at distance and the bush is really dense here. That said, you are richly rewarded in the quality of sightings that you get and the experience of some really fascinating animal behaviors. We had the early morning drive of a lifetime pursuing wild dogs alongside a pack of hyenas and vultures and later saw the celebratory reuniting of the entire pack which was incredible. We also witnessed a rhino fight in the bush, that was thrilling and even a little bit scary with the proximity we had. Our ranger Amy was really the best. Funny, charming, incredibly knowledgeable and so passionate about her job. And she makes a mean pink G&T! The lodgings and the service at Ngala are truly above & Beyond. The rooms are straight out of a movie set and the dining and common areas are just dreamy. The romance of Africa is alive and well at the camp. The food is delicious and plentiful and fresh. The number of healthy options (several vegetarian and vegan options included) available at lunch was so refreshing. I am not vegetarian or vegan but I opted for most of those dishes because of their creativity and taste. Loved the afternoon tea prior to game drives. The trip was a major milestone for us and the camp arranged a special private dinner for my husband's birthday on our veranda and they also arranged for him to go running in the bush with a tracker on his big day which was a lifetime wish fulfilled. Lastly, when FedAir changed our flight departure time at the last minute, Melanie, our local &Beyond agent stepped in at ungodly hours and made sure we got back to Joberg in time to make our flight.

A very discerning friend recommended a stay at Ngala after a group tour, so I had high expectations. I was not disappointed. The rooms were incredible and the staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. I found my stay exhausting, as I like to catch up on sleep at lunchtime. This was not possible as the wild elephants came to drink at the waterhole by the lodge and their trumpeting sent me scurrying for a sunlounger in the shade to enjoy the spectacle.
I saw a huge range of wildlife including the two white lion cubs, it was such a privilege. I was impressed by the way that the guides and spotters worked as a team to ensure that the guests were able to view the animals but the number of vehicles was limited to ensure that the animals were not distressed.
