This place is wonderful. We spent 3nights and did 6 safari drives. We had animals outside our room from the moment we arrived (elephants, zebras, impala and we heard hyenas at night!) and we really felt immersed in nature! At Gomo Gomo, the staff were wonderful. Always so approachable. We saw 4 of the big 5 on the first drive and Dom our tracker was very nice and his ability to spot tracks was absolutely incredible. We were tracking a leopard which did not want to be seen but fresh tracked showed we had missed it by minutes! Our driver Johan was really friendly and knowledgeable and he was so kind. He spent a lot of time explaining things to us and trying to make our experience the best it could be. We were genuinely so sad to leave. We went to the Seychelles after but in hindsight I would have preferred more time in Africa! The room was nice, clean and comfortable. We didn’t spend much time in the room as we were out on drives, bush walks or enjoying the view of the animals visiting the waterhole which is in front of the breakfast room. I was worried about insects- the roof is thatch but We didn’t have any problems- just one small spider when we entered our room, which a flip flop took care of! The food is not gourmet chef style but more like home-cooked meals and there is a choice. I am a fussy eater (and eat very little meat) and i was not hungry at all. The dinner is served in the Boma (?) -outdoors around a fire pit and gives you a chance to talk to the other guests and the safari guides eat with you too. Dinner was always three courses. We went in the middle of August and the weather was not cold but not hot either (low/mid 20s). We were glad it wasn’t much hotter as in the jeep it could have got quite sticky. It was cold in the morning but they do provide blankets for you. We took malaria tablets but we only saw one mosquito the whole time and that was a particularly hot afternoon (28 degrees). Superdrug sell them as the GP would not prescribe them as was low season. I would recommend this if you have never been on safari, want friendly, informed staff and want to leave the internet etc behind. (No signal in rooms but in the main communal sitting area there is WiFi.) I would definitely return. It was wonderful.…
We spent 2 nights at Gomo Gomo with 3 game drives ( could have had 4 if we so chose). The game drives were extremely successful. All of the big 5 were seen as well as hyenas, giraffe. Kudu. Impala. Elephants bathing in the watering hole in front of our lodge. An abundance of birds and butterflies. We found our ranger and spotter knowledgeable and helpful. The tranquility of the lodge and the fact that there were only 12 guests was a bonus for us. We loved every minute of our visit.
We spent 3 days at this lodge. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The food was always fresh and tasty. The game drives were packed full of animal views. The guides were knowledgeable and thorough. It’s only 45 minutes from the airport
We stayed for 5 nights. Loved the game drives saw loads of animals close up. Guide and spotter were really helpful, attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Real experts. Lodge was in front of a dam that you could sit by watching the animals come to drink - we saw hippo, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, baboons and lots of birds without even leaving the lodge. Chalet very nice with balcony overlooking the dam. Well looked after re food, not amazing but perfectly decent.
After two nights in Skukuza, Gomo Gomo was a very pleasant counterbalance. Small reserve with 12 guests while we were there, low key but successful game drives and comfortable rooms and surroundings. The staff was gracious and very attentive to the beds of guests. The sundowners on the afternoon/evening game drives were relaxed and enjoyable, a giraffe passed by at dusk one day. Hanging out by the watering hole with other guests was enjoyable. The food was decent and plentiful, but not a high point
