Tulela is an exclusive-use safari lodge offering exceptional comfort and luxury to families and friends in a private location in the Greater Kruger Park. Nestled beneath tall, ancient trees on a horseshoe bend of the N’tsiri River, Tulela is a place for guests to disconnect from the day-to-day and recharge in the wilderness. Celebrated for its wildlife diversity and low tourism density, the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is the perfect place for a personalised and private safari experience. Tulela - meaning our place of peace - will act as your home base while you explore the natural landscape, encounter the reserve’s abundant wildlife inhabitants, and gain a renewed sense of appreciation for the bush. Our promise is to offer so much more than just the Big Five. We will deliver a tailored safari experience that speaks to your preferences and priorities. Designed to deliver a feeling of peace and contentment, the lodge prioritises comfort and convenience, finished with tranquil aesthetics. It has five bedrooms and a spacious central living area, which flows onto a viewing deck with a swimming pool perched right on the riverbed. A fully furnished kitchen completes the communal living and dining space, which is designed to make the most of the view. Our very own “amphitheatre” draws herds of animals to drink at a waterhole positioned in full view of the lodge, so that you can sit back with your refreshment of choice and watch as nature’s stories unfold. Tulela translates to place of quiet in English, and that really embodies what we want to achieve in the experience we offer. A peaceful, tranquil place in the bush that quiets the mind and invigorates the soul.

Spent 4 nights at Tulela in August with my family. Having been on safari in south africa before, at multiple leading 5 star lodges, I can honestly say Tulela can hold its own. And if you are going wioth family or a group of friends Tulela is the absolute best choice. The Lodge is breathtaking and is furnished beautifully. The pool overlooking the water hols is a real highlight, where we spent time just lounging while seeing majestic elephants and more just meters away.
The Game drives were exhilarating, and our guide Werner was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and shared that knowledge easily with both kids and adults alike. Professional yet warm cautious yet getting us up close with the big five. Really the perfect guide.
Now the Hospitality. All I can say is that there was NOTHING that Tulela staff would not do to ensure that we enjoyed the most memorable and special family vacation.
Let me explain. Our Family only eats strictly kosher. Tulela proactively contacted us before our arrival to offer any and all assistance (purchasing kosher food, learning all about kosher etc). When we arrived they literally invited us in the the kitchen and allowed us (more like welcomed us) to take over the kitchen and utilize all the kitchen staff so all can be prepared according to our requirements. They even discussed the possibility of offering a dedicated kosher kitchen in the future.
The hospitality was not just limited to the kitchen. Tulela staff was warm and proactive anticipating any need or want. We were treated like loving family of the lodge.
In short, if you are looking for a lodge to accomidate your family or group in 5 star comfort with great game drives in a stunni9ng location, you have found the right place.

i stayed here for 4 nights during a birding trip. The rooms were INCREDIBLE - with lots of glass overlooking the gardens, soaking tub, outside or inside shower. Beds had mosquito netting and were extremely comfortable. Wonderful nespresso machine. Yoga mat which was a really nice touch for stretching out my back.
There was also an exercise room, which i did not notice until i checked out. Food was fantastic and the tour guides, trackers, and vehicles for game drives were also excellent. Widh i could have stayed longer.

After a fantastic first experience less than a year ago I left my high expectations back home and all I brought with me into the Klaserie was hope and faith.
I had encountered some health issues before coming to the Bush but once at Tulela, total calmness embraced me. Once again I felt my body and soul beginning a yearned after healing process that only seems to occur here.

This lodge is hard to describe in words because the best way to do so is to experience it.
It is not that this luxurious lodge is located across a waterhole that is well visited by wildlife (you might get a visit by an elephant, drinking from the pool while you are cooling off) or the delectable eye candy meals prepared by Chef Lazarus. It is the entire Tulela team that makes this lodge stand out from all the other places around: Bernard, the perfect butler, equipped with the most infectious smile, goes the extra mile to attend to each guest like no other. Each personnel makes one feel welcomed into family. And then they might catch you by surprise - especially Florence, totally unexpectedly serenading with an incredible powerful and beautiful voice, supported by the entire team, singing and dancing. What a heartwarming experience! Rika Miller, front of the house, has done a superb job, ensuring all needs are met and making it all look so effortless.
And then there is Werner Miller, manager & guide extraordinaire. Together with his incredible tracker, Caswell, these two men are unbeatable. Caswell seems to be so in tune with the wilderness, it is an experience of its own to watch him work. Werner - I have not ever encountered a guide like him: determined to track down the pride of lions that nobody had seen for weeks, same story with the wild dogs and their pups. Leading us to them the moment they organize themselves for a kill and then the aftermath of bringing some of the bounty back to the young pack. Werner does not ever stand idle. He will get off the path that nobody else will leave to find the rhino, the buffalo and more than "just" the Big Five. His knowledge about the region, the animals and the medicinal value of the fauna blew us all away. He carries his love for what he does on his sleeve, his passion to conserve and protect shines through. All reasons why we even got to watch two leopards mate!

I will be back because you offer way more than a Safari. The experience, the love & magic only happens here! Hope and faith turned once again into reality. Ngiyabonga <3

Our family of 9 spent 5 nights at Tulela and we had the best safari experience! Werner and Rika are outstanding hostess who think of every possible detail to make the experience unique to the group. The lodge is beautiful, the pictures don’t do it justice, the rooms are impeccable and are equipped with everything you might need and many more. The beds are very comfortable, the linens are soft and every bed has an electric blanket which was great in the cold nights. My teenage kids liked the paint kit and animal check list which we took on every game drive. It was a big plus to have the whole camp to ourselves!
The common area has an open plan that leads to an ample deck with a pool overlooking the riverbed and waterhole. Big herds of elephant and other animals visit the waterhole daily making it an attraction of its own. Other amenities include a well equipped gym which we used almost daily. They also have binoculars, hats, and bags available to use in case you need them.
Werner and Caswell were our guide and tracker for every game drive. Werner is very knowledgeable and has a love for the bush and for what he does that you don’t see often; you can hear it in every story and can see it on every nature encounter. The game viewing started slow but we ended up having some of the best encounters we’ve ever had including wild dogs eating a fresh kill, lions at night, huge herd of buffalo, hyenas and elephants passing us by very closely. Every afternoon we had sundowners at a different spot with drinks and snacks to enjoy. In the morning drives we would stop for coffee and rusks too.
Every meal was well planned and cater to the group’s requests and dietary restrictions, some of the dinners included fillet, fish, chicken curry and a traditional braai always followed by a delicious dessert. Every table was beautifully presented, and Bernard and Florence always made sure we had everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with cookies, snacks and all kind of drinks, coffee and teas. The wine cellar had a good number of choices and we enjoyed some very good wines.
Some of the highlights included a bush breakfast which was presented as a surprise and a night at the “tree house” under the stars. The weather wasn’t the best for the outdoor night but we still enjoyed it.
Tulela catered to my 4 year old niece and 18 moth nephew beautifully; from the packed meals they prepared for the game drives to the child care they arranged for when they were tired and didn’t join in the drives, Rika and the staff accommodated them in every possible way making this a great travel experience.
At the moment South Africa is dealing with loadshedding which basically means that every household/business has power outages of up to 8 hours a day. Tulela was equipped with a big generator that started immediately after the power would go off so this should not be a concern at all.
We will definitely be back, we loved it in every possible way and created memories we will cherish forever. Thanks Tulela for making it happen!

Tulela is a beautiful lodge. The grounds, bedrooms and living spaces are gorgeously comfortable and very tastefully appointed. Werner and Rika, and their team were phenomenal hosts, nothing was too much trouble for them. Delicious meals prepared by Lazarus, vegetarian options available, kept us well fed through out our stay. Rusks, coffees, full breakfasts, high tea (apple crumble, milk tarts, peanut butter shortbread) and dinners were a highlight of the day. Werner, was an incredible lodge manager and guide. We had great fun on every drive, often stopping for the smaller bugs, plants, and animals. Werner and Cas (tracker) were the most knowledgeable and dedicated guides we have ever met.

The birds of prey were out in full force, as were the elephants, chameleons, giraffe, spider lillies, and lions. We logged 90 different birds in two and half days.

Breakfast under the ancient Jackleberry tree was a highlight, as was the night under the stars, with a lightning storm that lit up the sky for a spectacular show.

Tulela lodge is luxurious, we felt like we owned the place for the duration of the stay, and the staff could not have been kinder, more helpful or friendlier than they were. Their service was world class.

Thank you Tulela Team for a most memorable experience. we shall definitely visit again.

~Perfect exclusive luxury stay for a group.

Spent four nights recently. All four days were exceptional with respect to accommodation, respect and treatment from staff and game drives and other activities such as sleeping out one night on the platform under a large Jackal berry tree and walk through the bush. I have much experience of working in the African continent for work purposes but I wanted my family to experience the African bush setting themselves. Werner and Caswell our driver and tracker were very experiences and knowledgeable. The cooking and cleaning staff all clearly take much pride in their jobs and do their best for you. Always friendly smiles and let you feel welcome and know they are there to make your visit more than five stars. Well worth every penny spent.

We have recently returned from Tulela and can highly recommend this as a place to stay and experience the African bush. From the very second of our arrival the whole team couldn't do enough to make us welcome. The whole Lodge is of a superior standard while at the same time feeling homely and relaxing. Rika and her team ensure an incredibly high standard in both the housekeeping and the catering with nothing being too much trouble - even for a couple of fussy eating teenagers. Verner is a highly skilled and knowledgeable ranger, he takes you out on a drive twice a day and every time there is something new and different to experience. His tracker Caswell was phenomenal particularly during the night drives, his spotting is amazing! The teenagers were very impressed with the off-road driving skills! We were a group of both South Africans and English with a wide range of ages and we all had a great time. One of the party was celebrating a special birthday and the team organised for us to have a meal in the river bed, a once in a lifetime experience and never to be forgotten.
Tulela is an incredibly special place and if you are thinking about visiting then don't hesitate - you will not be disappointed!

Tulela is one of those special hide-aways, a place that you never want to leave!

Situated on the N'tsiri River in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve the Lodge is nestled amongst massive Jackalberry and Leadwood trees. This is big five country, as it is part of the Greater Kruger Reserve, and wildlife is abound. You can expect to see the big five up close and personal. Leopard sightings were a daily occurrence, with different male and female leopards showing off their prowess as killing machines.

The lodge is absolutely amazing, the staff is super friendly and our hosts, Werner and Rika, made us feel more like friends rather than guests. Werners' knowledge of the bush is above and beyond. The cuisine that our chef, Lazarus prepared was divine, and every meal a master piece.

We prefer the exclusive use concept as our group of friends enjoyed the week together as if we were at a friends place, there were no strangers with strange ideas that could disturb our tranquility of just being at peace and enjoying natures wonders.....

I am very happy to recommend Tulela as one of the better one's, you will not be disappointed

Thank you to everyone that made this Bush-break as special as it was, we will definitely be back as soon as we can.

Gerhard and Sandra de Clercq

The warm welcome by all the staff at Tulela set the tone for our entire stay! We recently spent 4 days at Tulela to celebrate a family reunion and there are not sufficient words to describe the wonderful time that we had.
Werner and Rika are exceptional hosts - they are kind, caring and absolutely genuinely will go out of their way to make your stay an unforgettable one.
We enjoyed and appreciated Florence and Bernard's efforts to make us comfortable and the special effort that they made to make sure that my mom of 90 years was comfortable.
The food is excellent and they graciously cater for all dietary requirements.
The rooms are beautiful, with everything that you may need and they all have wonderful views of the riverbed and bush.
There were so many highlights during our 4 day stay, but the bush breakfast, the sleep out under the stars and the 90th birthday celebration will be memories that we will cherish forever!
Tulela is indeed a place of peace and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Thank you to all at Tulela for making our family reunion extra special!!

This was probably the best safari ever. The staff is extremely welcoming from beginning to end making you feel like family, we had around 3 different birthdays that were all incredible, the entire staff would come out sing amazing songs, lots of dancing and just smiles all around. The food is also to perfection, every single day is a new type of meal and they are extremely lenient, so if your a Vegetarian or vegan just tell them in advance and you’ll have your own menu fully based around your diet. Finally the game drives were always fun, our guide Werner would always have a smile and full of knowledge about every single thing from animal, tracks, plants, and even the terrain. The animal sightings were always fun with a new area and amazing views.
