nThambo Tree Camp is a safari camp located in the Klaserie area of the Kruger Park. The camp offers daily morning and afternoon game drives to view the Big Five.
Enjoyed a wonderful 2 nights and nThambo Tree Camp; wished it could have been longer! The amenities and food was excellent, we enjoyed great game drives with special sightings (including 20+ very relaxed wild dogs), and were taken care of throughout by a lovely team. Thank you to Anja, Conrad, Ingrid and Luzanne for a lovely stay!

My partner and I had a great Safari experience at nThambo. The lodge itself is tastefully decorated and the rooms were very cute. It was amazing to have such an intimate environment of 5 cabins and 10 people total, with each cabin having a fantastic balcony where you could sometimes see hyena or other animals in the watering hole. We met other couples and enjoyed the downtime in between game drives (I recommend bringing some books!) We felt lucky on our experience seeing an 18 lion pride multiple times and having so many close encounters with elephants. Of course, some of the game drives weren’t so lucky but that’s normal. Highlight was seeing the lions and rhino. We didn’t see any leopards or cheetahs, but you can’t control what’s out there on any given day. The staff at nThambo work really hard - they do everything for you including pickup from the airport, being the guide on the game drives, serving you food and drinks at sundowners, etc. Both of our guides were clearly very knowledgable and we felt safe in the vehicles (even with lions literally 3 feet from us). The food was also great - it was SO much food and they made sure to bring nutritious and vegeterian options. Another piece of advice for first time safari goers is to make sure to budget for tips for your guides and staff. In terms of constructive feedback, I think the daily communication to the guests could have been improved, such as knowing when exactly we will be doing a bush walk so we can wear appropriate shoes, and when exactly the afternoon game drive will be (sometimes it’s 3:30, sometimes it’s 4, but it wasn’t always clear when it was going to be). Also, this is part of the nThambo tree camp experience, but I do have to point out that the tree camps are not fully enclosed, which means at night we had hundreds of beetles and bugs if your light is on. They do provide nets which are very helpful, and while I did adore our balcony with unobstructed views, I did wish there was an ability to fully close the door at night. Other than that, it was a once in a lifetime experience! I also want to specifically call out Patrick who is not a guide but helps alot at the lodge. I hope he becomes a guide because he was so great at explaining things to us. Thanks Ingrid, Luzanne, Patrick and the rest of the staff at nThambo! …

We stayed 4 days in nthambo tree camp for our honeymoon in November 23. It was truly the best experience and stay we ever had. From the chalet in the middle of the bush (no fences!!!) to the amazing guide and tracker - 2 beautiful strong women (big up to you ladies, Ingrid and Lusan), everything was perfect. Intimate, authentic with a pinch of luxury, this is the best camp for anyone who wants the real deal. Do not think twice, book your stay here. We were literally surrounded by animals. From packs of lions with their cubs to baby elephants taking a bath just in front of you, you get to see them all, EVERY DAY! And this is thanks to Ingrid and Lusan who know where to go every day and will teach you everything you need to know about South African wildlife. You will also have an amazing time at sunset where you get to stop during you game drive to enjoy a nice glass of wine in the middle of the bush! The food served at the camp was also very tasty (and we are French!) and the staff so attentive to your needs. All The different couples coming from all around the world agreed on the fact that it was the best experience ever. We already miss waking up at 5 to see the animals!! Thank you so much to the nthambo team for making our honeymoon so special. We hope to see you soon again. Sandrine and Morgan the frenchies from London. …

Hi There, Thank you so much for this glowing review! We're glad you had the time of your life at our camp. We're glad that managed to see our Vuyela lion cubs, and experience the thrill of watching elephants drink and play in our waterholes. Ingrid and Lusan are exceptional guides and hosts; and are only too eager to share the wonders of the Klaserie. Our game drives always "drop anchor" for a sundowner to celebrate golden hour. Impressing our French guests? Now that's a win for us! Kind Regards, The Sun Destinations Team

My husband Sam and I came to nThambo Tree Camp as a part of our honeymoon and it was without a doubt our favorite part of our two weeks in Africa. This is a stunning and cozy camp with fantastic views (we had elephants, zebras, hyenas and more all come right up to the watering hole that we could see from the back deck) and the most wonderful and caring staff. From the chef who cooked us authentic massive meals three times a day to Anya the admin who was hilarious and took extra special care of us to the guests that passed through during our stay, we genuinely miss the people we met while there. Ingrid was our guide mostly with Luzanne as the spotter during the UNFORGETTABLE twice daily game drives and both were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in making the experience as great as it could be. One night Sam and I were sitting out looking at the stars and Ingrid took it upon herself to turn off all the lights in the camp and sit with us, pointing out constellations and telling us other fun tid bits while we soaked in our vast surroundings. She loves what she does and it really shows. We loved this place so much and would recommend it to anyone. We absolutely hope to visit again one day.…

This was our first safari, and my husband and I had a blast. Our guide was attentive to the needs and interests of each person in the group. The accommodations were beautiful and looked exactly as pictured on the website. We also loved the small group atmosphere and having our meals with the 10 people at camp. We all became friends quickly in such a wonderful place.

This was a wonderful treat for my husband’s 50th birthday, whilst also doing a self drive in Kruger. The tree camp is just wonderful, the photos do not do the accommodation justice as it’s even better in real life. Food was lovely, tasty and the perfect amount. The coffee and sundowner stops whilst out on game drives are wonderful, and could be even better if Amarula was offered with morning coffee!! Talking of game drives, Ingrid is the star of the show, her driving is phenomenal, and her desire to show guests as much game as possible is very evident, as is her knowledge😊. We will hopefully be back 🤞

A truly fabulous 3 night stay at Nthambo on our first safari. We had Ingrid as our guide and Conrad as our spotter - both very accommodating and extremely welcoming, both unbelievable at spotting animals, insects and birds on the drive. Take it as your opportunity also to become a spotter! The treehouses are spotlessly clean, well equipped with lovely views. The general staff are also very kind and the food we had was absolutely delicious. The bar is well equipped with no shortage of choice. The game drives - wow. We were lucky enough to see lions on a few occasions - we actually did a bush walk to find them after spotting fresh paw prints. An experience I’ll never forget. My favourite was the elephants which literally brushed past the Land Cruiser. Highly recommended - thank you for a wonderful and unforgettable stay to Ingrid, Conrad and the rest of the general staff. …

We had a wonderful stay for three nights at the nThambo Tree Camp. A lovely and unique place to stay and staffed by friendly, professional and very knowledgeable people. Despite one of the rare rainy days in the Kruger our hosts couldn't do enough to help and kept the schedule of game drives going throughout. A special thanks to Lozanne and Ingrid our guides, and to Anya who looked after us in the lodge. A very special place and somewhere we will definitely go back to.

My first solo trip abroad and I stayed 4 nights at NTambo tree camp. The accommodation was very nice, comfortable clean and tidy. The main relaxing area was also comfortable, clean and tidy. Food was excellent, all guests sat together which being a solo traveller I was slightly anxious about however it was a good way of bringing guests together to converse and I always felt part of the group. On the game drives I saw a large range of wildlife, more than I expected. Rangers were knowledgeable and answered all questions exceedingly well. Having elephants drink at the pool was a magical experience. I loved sitting on my balcony seeing the wildlife at the watering holes and passing just infront of me. I would happily stay here again.

Hi There, Congrats on your first solo trip abroad! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at nThambo Tree Camp, and that you enjoyed connecting with others around the safari dining table. Our intimate camp is ideal for solo travellers. Elephants frequently visit the camp's swimming pool - especially during the drier season when they come in search of water. It's always fantastic when guests get to see this in action. Kind Regards, The Sun Destinations Team

My husband and I stayed in the nThambo Tree Camp for three nights and it was simply special. The welcome was warm and friendly. Everything is done with so much love, it is just amazing. The safari guide and tracker have a big knowledge of all these animals, which are walking around. They are patient, if everyone wants to take that perfect picture. So after all, we can totally recommend this accommodation. They created a wonderful place in the middle of the wilderness. We would love to come back some day. :)
