2023 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Reminiscent of a traditional African safari camp, Kapama Buffalo Camp offers a unique and intimate experience in the African bush. It is ideal for discovering big game Africa in true safari tented style without compromising on comfort. Ten luxury build canvas en-suite tents, each sleeping two, are set on wooden decks built on stilts over a steep-sided riverbank. Wooden walkways interconnect the rooms, which are all in the upper reaches of tall riverine trees. But the thick African bush is just a glance away, inhabited by animals like lion, hyena and jackal whose calls can be heard in the dead of night making Kapama Buffalo Camp a truly authentic way to experience the African bush.

We stayed for 3 nights in January at the Buffalo Camp, which is the quietest of the three locations inside Kapama. Make sure you look at all three and decide which best fits your needs. For us Buffalo was perfect and we can't praise the team highly enough. We also walked and mountain biked through the reserve with our guide and being 'on foot' gives a very different perspective. A great few days!

My husband and I had the most INCREDIBLE experience at Kapama Buffalo Camp. From start to finish every detail is perfectly planned. The food is absolutely out of this world. The treehouse / tent room was beautiful. The safari drives were once in a lifetime ! Have to shout out our guide Ben who gave us the best experience we could have asked for. Every staff member was so friendly and kind and the service was amazing. I cannot say enough good things about this place and if I could rate it higher I would!

Hard to start this review as so many highlights. Obviously the number one has got to be seeing the Big 5 while being at Kampama camp. We were actually staying in Buffalo camp, the accommodation, staff, food and drink and hospitality are amazing, little details that made our stay very special. I could mention lots but all I can say is if going on Safari in S.A. this is the place my husband and I would recommend 100 %

An incredible experience from start to finish inc the airport transfers. The hospitality, the Tented room, the food with huge wine list was fantastic. The Game drives were spectaclar with the team working hard to ensure you have a great trip and see as many animals as possible :). Would return and recomend. Great value for money.

Staying in this reserve was above my expectations in all senses. Starting with the organization, the guides were great, safaris were wonderful with special recognition to Joncho who is truly passionate and very knowledgeable. We had a fabulous Safari based out of Buffalo camp.we staid in a luxury "tent" with full amenities. Game viewed from our room and balcony. Twice daily game drives with our guide Carlos and our tracker were superb. Many sitings each day, multiple Lion, Elephants, Rhino, African Bufalo and of course plenty of Zebra(BABY NURSING) and Giraffe. GREAT OWL on way back from night drive. Every kind of antelope.Meals were 5* and unique. Staff were awesome.

What a fabulous place…beyond my expectations. Every little thing thought of…..the staff were efficient, discreet, friendly, intuitive, ….absolutely nothing was too much trouble. Our ranger and tracker went out of their way in making sure we found all of the animals we expected plus some unexpected ones. How Jack spotted two tiny chameleons a In the grass as we drove along I will never know. We couldn’t see it even when it was first pointed out to us. Thank you everyone.

Staying at the Kapama Buffalo Lodge was a terrific experience. I was fortunate enough to spot the Big 5 on my safari drives, while learning much about those and other animals from the highly knowledgable and friendly safari guides. The food was also a highlight. Every meal was outstanding. I tried springbok, kudu or warthog for the first time. Every meal was prepared with great care and delivered with a smile. I would whole-heartedly recommend Kapama if you're interested in a luxurious, yet affordable safari experience.

I loved everything about Kapama Buffalo Camp. The accommodations were great! Love that the shower has a view outside. I enjoyed sitting on the deck and seeing the animals that would be right under our raised deck. The twice daily safari trips were amazing. The staff was wonderful. The food was great. I loved everything about our experience.
