Our family of 8 (3 generations) visited in August. Masodini exceeded our expectations. Cottages were clean and beautiful. We appreciated that it was a small lodge--our family and one other. Our grandkids enjoyed the pool. The food and presentation was exceptional. Lee was an amazing cook, who made special dietary accommodations for our group. The game drives led by Leann and Bert were unbelievable, as we were up close to lions, cubs, hyenas, painted wild dogs, cape buffalo, zebra, giraffe, warthogs, and more. We can not recommendation Masodini highly enough and hope to return.

Let me start by saying that I have stayed in different kinds of establishments in many parts of the world: campsites, motels, hostels, hotels, bed and breakfasts.... and slept on a few beaches and deserts too! However, this lodge was one of the best experiences I have had for service, comfort and care. Admittedly, we were extremely lucky to be the only 3 guests during our stay (usual maximum of about 12-14), but I believe that our experience would have been equally as good even with others present. Standards of food and service and the personalities don't change! The chalets are very well presented. There is good attention to detail in the furnishings, colour schemes and provision of tea, coffee and biscuits. There were welcome petals on the bed on arrival. Sheets are turned down at night and chocolates left as if by fairies! There is enough space between each chalet for them to feel private. Each has an outdoor sitting area that is not overlooked. The bathroom was good. The water pressure was a little 'light' however, we are in the middle of a private game reserve in South Africa, one cannot expect to have the kind of pressure you might find in a major city. The outdoor shower with my chalet was great fun, even in the winter. The food requires a whole paragraph. Meals are presented by the fire (boma) in the evenings and in the covered area during the day. The menus are set, so you do not choose for each meal, apart from breakfast. The presentation, quality and portions were perfect for us. The cook has trained locally, but was able to produce food of a quality and standard of many high end restaurants. Her Italian pesto (basil, garlic, pine nuts, olive oil) was one of the best I have eaten, and I have lived in Italy for 25 years. The daily menus were varied, including fish, meat, pasta, rice, sweet potatoes and various local vegetables and fruit. Lee's syrup sponge and vanilla sauce was wonderful, as was her chocolate soufflé. Breakfast was more than enough! Apart from fruit, cereals, toast, juices, tea, coffee etc, a cooked breakfast was offered and appeared in minutes! The cook would also surprise us with a tray of muffins or pancakes too. I rarely, if ever, photograph my food, but here I did! There is an 'honesty' bar, which was extremely well stocked and very reasonably priced. We just wrote down what we drank each day and it appeared on my final invoice. The Alvi's Drift pinotage (wine) is a delight. Now for the important part: the drives. We did the morning and evening drives with Leanne. Each of approximately 3 hours. An early start at about 6am and then another at 4pm. Leanne is the resident ranger, guide, manager... with the most incredible skill and ability when it came to locating wildlife. The radio system between rangers was always alive with Leanne's observations, and understanding of the movement of the wildlife. During our stay she was successful at locating lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, giraffes and many other animals, which she then shared with other guides. Leanne was informative without lecturing or talking too much. She allowed us to observe quietly, then asked questions, gave information, all in a calm and composed manner. She was strict about 'human behaviour' as she must be, informing us of the dos and don'ts of how to behave around the animals and whilst out on drives. We felt very safe in her hands. We loved the open top Land Rover, enabling us to feel really as close to the environment as we could be without being on foot! We loved going off the dirt tracks across the grass and over branches in search of that perfect view. We loved the coffee breaks on the drive, with rusks and snacks in the morning and olives, crisps and biltong on the evening drives. Wrap up well in layers as it is chilly in the mornings and after the sun goes down. Thinsulate gloves are a good idea and hats. Sunglasses too. All of the staff were wonderfully polite, discreet, professional and approachable. They are an amazing team. We particularly enjoyed our barbecue or 'braai' on the last night with some singing and dancing from the staff... so memorable. Bert and Audrey are the owners. I communicated with Bert to organise our trip (first booked in 2019 for 2020, then postponed due to Covid). He was always so helpful, kind, considerate and professional. On meeting him, we felt that he genuinely cared about our experience, and spoke very highly of his staff and his commitment. We really felt we were staying with a family, in a way. I believe that our stay was excellent value for money. There were cheaper places, and obviously the sky is the limit when it comes to the expensive ones, but given my budget, I felt that every euro I spent was well worth it. This kind of trip might come once in a life time for many people, so if that is the case for us, I am so pleased we chose Masodini.

Our travel agency booked this lodge for our first safari in SA and it was INCREDIBLE! We were a family of 7, including two young kids, and for all of us, it was the highlight of our 30-days stay in SA. Many thanks to Le-Ann who made our trip unforgettable, she is the best tracker and driver you can dream of! She spotted the Big 5 on our first morning game drive, what a blast and we were so close to the animals, I couldn't believe my eyes! The food was incredible, from breakfast to diner, we had 5 star meals, so delicious! The room were perfect and very clean. We did enjoy the pool during our stay to rest between game drives, and we were blessed to see many elephants coming into the pond just in front of the pool. The kids will remember this experience forever! I really recommend going to Masodini Private Game Lodge if you are in the area of Balule Reserve. The only thing after staying here is maybe you will be disappointed by Kruger afterwards if you haven't seen many animals! We did Masodini and then Kruger, and let's say it's two different experiences!

I really enjoyed my stay at Masodini Game Lodge. The lodge itself is very nicley furnished and provides a nice pool to chill after a game drive. The staff was extraordinary committed and one could feel, all like their professions. Especially Leeaan, as the host and tour guide spared no effort to wake up every day to go on a game drive or setting up tours around the area (like blade canyon). The food was also a highlight; the chef, Li, made the best meals I had in whole South Africa. I made really good memories and I am happy that I chose this lodge. If you enjoy authentic establishments with warm friendly and personalised service, Masodini is not to be missed. Splendid scenery and an expert guide with in depth knowledge of the bush comes with the package. You can also watch the constant parade of wildlife from the pool.

We had an unforgettable stay at Masodini Lodge from 22nd to 26th October. We were treated to a family, friendly and warm hospitality that we had never experienced before. Lee's team, our tracker Lee-Ann and Bert as the owners of the lodge made us feel at home. The extremely attentive service, the facilities and cleanliness of the lodge and the game drives more than exceeded our expectations. And the wildlife viewing is great. Just in front of the pool, separated only by an electric fence, is a waterhole where we saw a herd of 15-20 elephants in one day. Our tracker Lee-Ann found all of the Big Five. We had great game drives with her. If we came back we wouldn't think twice. In this area there is in our point of view no alternative for us to the Masodini Lodge. Bert: I wish you a great time in your old age and I hope that we will meet again. Thank you for this unforgettable stay!

I cannot rave enough about Masodini, Bert, LeeAnn and everything else about our stay! We had just come from a week at another Lodge a good way from the Kruger area and felt we'd had a good experience--but Masodini knocked out out of the park. Bert knew we were celebrating a major anniversary, so we were greeted by the staff in full local beaded and painted regalia. They'd set up a private romantic dining table on the patio of our room, with red linen over white, candles...just gorgeous. And our bed was covered in rose petals! That might, rather than having us done in the assigned area, they brought us dinner on our patio. The next morning was our first first into the bush with LeAnn, who provided all kinds of information and insight into our three hour adventure. We saw soooo many different animals, and each in quantity, learned that giraffes and zebras like hanging out together.. That evening, we left at 4:30 for our second bush drive, so we were able to see everything by moonlight as well as daylight--and LeeAnn 's eyesight is uncanny. Over the course of our stay, we saw lions battling over an impala, hyenas and wild dogs quartering I've a carcass that a leopard had apparently left on top of a tree for later, herds of giraffes and buffalo and impalas and nyalas and..the list goes on. Every meal was delicious, prepared with such love (tho we had to ask for *less* food!). We were called to meals by a drumbeat. Our room was large, comfortable and immaculate--with turndown service and a candy every night while we were at dinner. One afternoon, we were lying by the pool when a family of seven elephants decided to visit the watering hole just a stone's throw from us (but separated by an electric fence). We grinned and laughed non-stop as the baby in the group submerged completely and then came up blowing water out its trunk and, I swear, grinning broadly. Honestly, I cannot say enough about how much we loved our adventures in the bush, our meals, our cabin, about LeAnn as a ranger (one of verrrry few females in that job, and clearly highly respected by her male colleagues), by sweet Bert with those lovely eyes .. . I urge everyone to stay at Masodini!
