Travellers' Choice
Just four magnificently appointed chalets sleeping only eight people, right in the heart of Big Five country within the borders of the greater Kruger National Park!!!! Without a doubt, Naledi offers you the most personal, intimate experience anywhere In the region – and at a price often less than half of what you would expect to pay elsewhere! At Naledi we only ever have a maximum of eight guests on our game viewer, only eight relaxing on our beautiful swimming pool deck overlooking the river bed and our private waterhole where one can enjoy the daily parade of animals and birds coming to drink and feed in total peace and tranquility. Our lodge is our passion, showing people our private piece of wild Africa our greatest pleasure, and that means introducing you to the bush and all its creatures, from lions and elephants, to antelope and birds is something we always look forward to ! At Naledi you’ll find aircon throughout, delicious meals, elegant surroundings, a fabulously stocked bar, fun, relaxation and excitement in equal portions, but best of all, you’ll arrive as strangers, and leave as friends!!

This was my second trip to Naledi (first was in 2014) and I continue to be a raving fan. I was supposed to visit last July but couldn’t back then due to COVID. While the pandemic continues, now that our family is vaccinated, we decided to travel. I will share both my experiences on traveling during COVID, and on Naledi itself. The TLDR is: we felt absolutely safe traveling to Naledi even with COVID continuing. This is one of the best trips I think you can take since almost everything you do is outside and Naledi has many ways to make this a very safe trip. First, we recommend if you can, to get your PCR done as close as possible to your travel date/time. In the US we were able to find a rapid PCR (results in 1 hr). Travel delays due to weather can result in having to redo COVID tests. Arriving into Johannesburg airport we found that the process was extremely organized. We were deplaned, got through the customs line, had our COVID tests checked, and were on our shuttle out to Naledi within 1 hour (we only did carry on luggage). We had decided to arrange for a private transfer to/from Johannesburg airport through Naledi which, for 4 people, was only slightly more expensive than the normal shared transfer. This meant that we didn’t need to overnight in Jo-berg or have anyone else in our minivan. Totally worth it. So, it was a completely smooth and painless process getting into South Africa and out to Naledi. In terms of COVID, we had brought N95 masks that we put on in the plane and through Jo-berg until we got out to the countryside. We felt very safe out at Naledi as you are in your own room and the meals and game drives are out in the open air pretty much all the time. The staff all wear face coverings and everything there is spotless. Naledi is able to arrange for the return COVID tests to happen right on site at Naledi which was amazing. We did rapid antigen tests (US doesn’t require PCRs) the morning of our home-bound flight just before breakfast, had results in 15 minutes, and got 3 copies of printouts from the office. Cost was about $66 USD each. Easy-peasy. Now, to Naledi. Honestly, you can’t beat this place. The staff is so attentive, kind and genuine. I was there with my sister-in-law and my two nephews, 12 and 13. These boys are your basic picky American eaters and Chef Dudu was amazing cooking them exactly what they wanted every meal. Their burger and fries would come with a South African flag on the top, they got chocolate cake for dessert and Magnum ice cream bars as a treat which thrilled them to pieces. Lillian and Angel were there early in the morning to see us off, make sure we had everything we needed – hot water bottles in the jeep, hot towels at night to clean the dust off our faces, and a smile and joke to commiserate about our pre-teen “cherubs”. Our guide Oupa was incredible. We saw a lion pride 8 drives in a row including a buffalo kill, we got a leopard kill a steenbock, countless elephants, giraffes, zebras, the list goes on. He has a great way with kids and they adored his jokes and dry sense of humor. Owner Kjell could not do enough to accommodate us and is incredibly responsive, flexible and just an all-around good person who deserves all our support to keep his amazing small business going. All of his staff have been with him for years. He clearly cares about them and is doing his best to keep them all employed in these very difficult times. The truth is that this is a very special gem of a place in a spectacular part of our world. They are struggling after 18 months of this pandemic with the travel industry being hit so hard. But being out in the bush it’s one of the safest places because you’re outside in the fresh air where it’s almost impossible for the virus to spread. If you are even thinking about it – please, just go. It’s truly the experience of a lifetime.

"It feels like we're saying goodbye to family", My sister said to me as we drove off waving at the staff of Naledi Game Reserve. Wow, what an experience we've had over the past couple of days. Upon arrival we were greeted by the most friendliest people I've ever met. TK made us feel at home from the moment we stepped off our vehicle, her professionalism, hospitality and story-telling kept us comfortable and intrigued for the whole weekend. Lilian prepared the most incredible welcome drinks and made ssure we had enough coffee/beverages during our stay and at every meal time, making sure we were always comfortable and at ease during our down-time. We were greeted by Dudu, who's voice and personality filled the room at every mealtime, her menu and presentation of food even to the most fussiest of eaters was exquisite! We were then treated by Vuyani’s great knowledge of animals, plants, insects and birds on game drives every evening and early morning. We watched the sun rise with piping hot coffee in the middle of the reserve with him and later watched it set with some nice snacks and drinks on the otherside of the reserve at night. Alongside Vuyani, we had the sharp and watchful eyes of Sidwell who could spot, track and identify animals hiding in the thickness of the bushes and trees (even at night!). Vuyani, Sidwell and Kjell even helped us fix our vehicle tyre, again going above and beyond! Everyone working at the lodge played a huge part in making us have the most pleasant experience we could’ve ever asked for. Being the only people at the lodge for the weekend never stopped the staff from pulling out all the stops and going above and beyond their duties. They made our stay absolutely incredible. Would highly recommend by a visit/stay at Naledi Game Lodge, it felt like home away from home. Thank you TK, Lilian, Dudu, Sidwell, Vuyani and Kjell. Our time at your lodge was unforgettable.

Kjell & his staff went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. The accommodation was stunning and the food was five star. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they gladly assisted with booking trips and setting up meals in the bush at our request. The game drives were amazing with very experienced & knowledgable game rangers. I cannot fault this lodge at all! We had a wonderful getaway.

I had an amazing stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and really made the stay enjoyable, Each day, we went out on two game drives through the beautiful reserve and we saw a lot. Our guides were knowledgeable and informative. For 5/6 days we saw lions. We also saw a very large herd of (50 ish) elephants, hippos, giraffes, crocodiles and baby hyenas (to name a few). After each drive, we came back to a delicious meal prepared by Sam. The rooms are lovely, wifi and air conditioner worked really well. In between drives and eating, days were spent in the lapa pool relaxing. Overall, best safari I’ve been on and I can’t wait to return.

We went for a 3 night stay to Naledi, from the time we arrived till the time we left it was superb. We had a fantastic stay. The thing that makes this lodge so special is the staff, each and everyone was so friendly, smiley & happy, what great people they all are, (Petronella, Lillian, Vuani & Sidwell. They went out their way to make sure everything was perfect and did so with a huge smile on there faces. We arrived as guest and left as friends. We stayed in the Rockfig suite, what a wonderful room, spacious well decorated, and the splash pool and deck were amazing. The indoor shower was huge and the outdoor shower was beautiful. The camp has a wonderful upper deck which we loved sitting at to see the game in the distance. We loved that the meals were in different spots around camp not just in one place, with the most beautiful table decorations each one was different and unique. The game drives were informative and very nice sightings. Vuani & Sidwell took good care of us and we were not disappointed. We saw wild dog, cheetah & lion all on kills. We loved that they also stopped to look at the smaller things too. We have been to many different lodges and the food was EXCELLENT!!!!! Really Top class thank you Sam. They also did a anniversary dinner for us in our room as a suprise, very special. Like I said its the small details that means everything. Thank you for a wonderful stay Kjell, Petronella & Lillian We will DEFINATELY be back Sean & Michelle Barker
