Set along the boulder-strewn banks of the Sand River in Singita’s privately owned reserve within Sabi Sand in South Africa, Singita Boulders Lodge has a unique sense of place and seamlessly merges the light, shapes and mood of its environment. The lodge was inspired by the ancient boulders on which it rests and its temperature-controlled wine cellar – featuring an award-winning collection and personalised tastings – was built around some of the organic-shaped rocks found on the site during construction. These shapes are echoed throughout the design of this contemporary sanctuary in the bush. Expansive decks and walkways invite continuous engagements with the surrounding wilderness, while each of the 12 glass-fronted suites features spacious interiors, a fireplace, private deck, outdoor shower and heated pool. Handmade furnishings and luxurious, textured fabrics echo the raw African beauty outside. Cleverly designed communal spaces such as the Copper Bar – serving freshly pressed juices, espressos and cocktails – provide intimate opportunities for guests to connect with each other and share stories of the sightings of the day. Offering a front-row seat to 45,000 acres of untouched wilderness, guests at Boulders Lodge enjoy frequent leopard sightings as well as encounters with a magnificent range of animals like rhino, lion, buffalo, hippos and wild dogs.

I can only say that everything about staying here is faultless. We were so well looked after we really didn’t want to leave. The game drives were brilliant and I suppose of an element of that is luck, not everyone will see all the big 5 or 7 but we did so that was awesome. Our dedicated guide and tracker were excellent and so friendly and patient for all the questions from our fixed group of 6, the max number of guests in any vehicle. Our suite was beautiful and the outside area perfect. The open bar area and cozy fires were very welcome on our cooler days and a nice spot to unwind before/after dinner or a cheeky afternoon cocktail. My only advice to future visitors is to lose weight before you go because Singita knows how to feed you. You WILL NOT be hungry. The staff are so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Outstanding!!

Dear Carol, Thank you very much for your splendid review of Boulders Lodge! We really appreciate the time taken and your kind words you have shared. We are so glad to hear you and Steven had such a wonderful time with us; we are generally very spoilt with game viewing, but it has been spectacular as of late and seeing how excited Nick and Vusi were after each drive proves how fortunate you all were out there! The reserve is also looking beautiful, being green and lush and full of life. We try to provide an all-around exceptional experience; not just the lodging and game viewing, but also the quality of food, wine, service and most importantly, the love and care that goes into it all by our wonderful team. We are glad you have had the opportunity to experience our small slice of paradise and hope to see you back here again soon! Nick, Vusi, Ernest and the rest of the Boulders family send their regards, as do I. All my best, Warrick

Boulders is unparalleled in terms of game viewing, hospitality and food. Vusi and Nick were our tracker and guide. Through them we had many wonderful sightings and felt connected to nature in a totally new way despite being on many other trips to Africa. We also had a lot of fun

The food and wine at Boulders is beyond delicious. It was presented with warm professional attentiveness by Ernest. The sommelier, Minnie, presented the most spectacular wines from the vast wine cellar which has international fame for good reason. Minnie individualized her wine recommendations to our tastes and we were able to expand our knowledge of wine and try new wines. A wine tasting with Minnie was arranged to our delight.

A special Hamilton dinner was arranged for us because Boulders knew we are fans. It was magnificent. The courses were named for songs from the show down to the cocktails. This is one example of many individual thoughtful touches.

This is an amazing place, they make you feel like family and nothing is too much.
The trackers and guide are outstanding they teach you things as you go.
We had Martin as a tracker and Garret as a guide and they made a great team finding sometimes what others didn’t.
The group of guides work well in radioing what they are seeing so others can come to the spot. Never crowding the animals and being respectful of the environment.
The lodge itself is beautiful with a luxury outdoor natural feel.
The food is excellent and lots to offer. They go above an beyond to satisfy every whim you might have

What an experience
What a treat!
After a very warm welcome by Andrew and his team, we were shown to our room, suite, it’s actually more like a house!! It was enormous. So beautifully decorated and appointed. Immaculately clean, and so very comfortable.
Andries and Nkosinathi were our ranger and tracker. Their knowledge was extensive, they were both very accommodating and interesting people, who catered to our every request.
From daily walks to sitting for hours watching hippo.
Every meal was absolutely delicious, so beautifully presented and served to us by Gift. What an asset she is to Singita. Not only is she such a character, with quick wit, intelligence and sense of humour, but she had every detail, for every meal correct.
Benjamin was a constant source of positive energy, bringing lots of laughter to everyone.
Game sightings were plentiful, with viewings we have never experienced.
A highly recommended bush break

The spacious suites with fronted glass gives you the opportunity to engage with the environment. You will find luxurious rustic handmade furnishings in the suite, a sprawling wooden deck, large living room, spacious bathroom and outdoor pool.

In our travels through Africa there were 2 guides that stood out. One was our guide, Collen at Boulders. His deep knowledge of the animals was beyond belief. He had a way of explaining things that was so interesting and fascinating. Collen was also so kind and a true gentleman. We loved him and miss him! Our tracker Casper was also very special. He and Collen make a great team. We had a lot of fun with both of them and will have lasting memories of our great game drives with them.

The food was creative and delicious. Our waitress Vivian was exceptional! Thank you for the wonderful service you provided us.

How lucky were we that on the first night of dinner- I recognized Luke Bales eating with his family. Luke is the founder of Singita. He was so friendly, fascinating, and even came to sit and talk with us after dinner.

The Boma at the lodge was magnificent. The chefs cooked the food on outdoor grills. The chicken, lamb chops, steak etc. were all marvelous. We sat with our guide and tracker for dinner and had the best time being with them. The staff entertained us with a lively show of singing and dancing.

All the staff were so attentive.

Perfection does not just happen at Boulders without the leadership of the General Manager, Grant. He was always present and so engaging. He sat with us for a lunch and at a breakfast and we loved talking with him.

Thank you to everyone who made our stay at Boulders with memories that will last a lifetime! What a wonderful way to end our African Adventure.

My wife and I have visited many game lodges, and while all were excellent, Singita Boulders really blew us away. Everything that you could think you need has already been provided. The staff were incredibly attentive, helpful, and warm. The game viewing was phenomenal and the rooms are so beautiful and well-appointed.

The icing on the cake though was the food. We are both vegans and the selection of delicious food that was on offer to us was incredible. This was probably the best vegan food we have ever had.

We highly recommend Singita Boulders - this luxurious escape will transform your expectations for future holidays!

We have become addicted to Singita this year! We stayed with our kids in the family room during the December lockdown.

We were welcomed on arrival by Mark and it felt like we were back visiting family! Mark is like google on steroids when it comes to bush knowledge and we have been very privileged to have him as our ranger for our stays. The game was spectacular. On one of our drives we were surrounded by buffalo, rhino and elephant! The leopard sightings were amazing with wonderful drives along the Sabi river tracking these magnificent cats. Our last morning drive we saw the Scotia leopard attempting to hunt impala which was the cherry on the top. The kids will always remember having smores freshly made and marshmallows braaied on a fire in the bush at one of our sunset drink stops. The experiences will stay with us forever.

The rooms, food and service are exceptional. I mentioned I love creme brulee one morning and that evening at our boma dinner, we were served creme brulee ice-cream! The staff don't miss a thing, and will go out of their way to make every stay an unbelievable experience!

Its tough to write a review about a place that exceeds your wildest dreams! I hope to be able to come back soon. A big thank you to every staff member that made this Singita experience truly magical!

When we decided to go on a last-minute safari, Singita Boulders seemed like the obvious option. Traveling 15+ hours to go on a 4 day safari may have seemed crazy to some, but when you are going to Singita—it’s well worth the journey.
They made accommodations for all of our very specific kosher dietary needs and were meticulous about ensuring every single detail was perfect. With only 3-4 other couples at the lodge at the time, we felt like we were the only guests. We had our own jeep and really felt like our driver and tracker understood quickly what we wanted to see and made sure to go above and beyond to make it happen. We saw the Big Five within 48 hours and a kill on our third day. The rooms are great. Having the fireplace in the winter is an extra-nice touch. We hope to be back at Singita again.

Hands down one of the best places we’ve ever stayed! The property is simply beautiful and every cottage has an amazing view of the river with wildlife everywhere for viewing from your private deck and plunge pool. The room was huge with every amenity you need, including a second half bath. They provide everything from bug spray (their signature scent actually smells great!), sunscreen, safari bags, ponchos, and safari hats. We also appreciated the plentiful outlets and USB ports by both sides of the bed. Every game drive (even the drives to and from the airport) provided amazing up close viewing of wildlife from elephants, lions, leopards, rhino, zebra, giraffe, buffalo etc. but it wasn’t just the animals that make Boulders exceptional, it’s the people that feel like family. Our guide Coman and tracker Rebel were highly skilled but also wonderful people who made safari so much fun. And Gift made every meal special with her attentiveness (including to my husband’s food allergy) and humor. Other staff highlights included Ali (so welcoming and funny) and Jordi (always remembered our drink order with a smile). We really liked the hot breakfast sandwiches and coffee on the morning game drives and the adult beverages in sippy cups on the evening drive! This place thought of everything. We highly, highly recommend and wished we had stayed longer instead of going to another resort in Kruger…after Boulders nothing could measure up!

I think that you need to inquire on their website or through your own travel agent. Prices seem to vary a bit, and also their quotes are usually done on a daily per person rate.

When is the best time to visit to see the most wildlife ?
Answer from Singita
Cape Town Central, South Africa25 contributions
Hi Natalie, apologise for the delay in getting back to you! Southern Africa is a year-round destination. Traditionally the dry winter months (April to October) are best for game viewing, due to the shorter grass, lack of foliage and the absence of water which forces the game to concentrate around the remaining sources of drinking water. Annual rainfall, usually in the form of short afternoon thunder showers that clear up within an hour, occur from December to March. Many species give birth to their young around the start of the rains, so the bush is alive with newborn animals. You can find out more via our website!

Any recommendation on clothing to pick for safari at Singita in January?
Answer from Singita
Cape Town Central, South Africa25 contributions
Hi there! To ensure your comfort you may want to tailor your clothing choices to the time of year: In January, the weather is very warm during the day but cooler in the morning and evenings. We recommend casual summer clothes (shorts and cool shirts) and a warm jersey/sweater for the cooler times of day. What to Bring: Your safari suitcase, packed properly, will ensure that you have everything you need for the ultimate African bush experience. Cotton clothing in neutral colours is recommended for all game drives and bush walks. It is best to avoid white clothing and dark colours for bush activities, as they tend to attract certain bugs. Formal wear is not required at any of our lodges. We recommend packing the following: Comfortable walking shoes/track shoes/hiking boots for walks and sandals to wear around the lodge. Swimming costume/bathing suits, sun block, sun hat, sunglasses, lip balm, mosquito repellent (lip balm and mosquito repellent is provided for all our guests, but you are welcome to bring along your favourite brand). Camera and video camera, binoculars, spare memory cards and charging equipment. The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) is strictly prohibited at Singita. Please note that in the event of rain during a game drive, waterproof ponchos will be provided for guests’ comfort. All of our lodges are located in remote areas and therefore guests should remember to bring an extra pair of correction glasses, contact lens solution and an extra set of contact lenses (if required) as well as a sufficient supply of any prescription medication.
