Pungwe is a small intimate authentic safari camp which brings back the essence of a true safari experience. Our comfortable en-suite meru-style tents are reminiscent of days when safaris were all about the sights, sounds and smells of the bush. Our camp is about the bush, the animals, the unique experiences and the subsequent regaling of these by the iconic fireside. Pungwe Safari Camp is situated in the southern part of the 22 000 hectare Big 5 Manyeleti Reserve. Pungwe shares unfenced boundaries with two world renowned reserves, the Sabi Sand Reserve to the south and the Kruger National Park to the east, allowing for free movement of wildlife between the three reserves. This ensures that Pungwe's guests will be privy to some spectacular game viewing without having to share the sightings with numerous other visitors. Our guided morning walking safaris put you in touch with the bush, immerses you in your surroundings and enable you to encounter wildlife at a unique level. Our afternoon/evening game drives ensure that your sightings are up-close and personal. The perfect combination to create lasting memories. The 4 en-suite meru-styled tents at Pungwe offer simple elegant comfort, security, hot and cold running water for baths or showers and an exceptional feeling of truly being in the African bush. Only under canvas will you not only hear, but feel the roar of the lion, the throaty cough of a leopard and the Fiery Necked Nightjar celebrating the night.

A very different safari experience for us. The camp was recommended and met our expectations. Only ever 8 guests so felt like we were the only guests at times lovely thatched accomodation. The whole camp has no electricity so lovely at night with old parafin lamps. Donkey boiler gave hot water and we were never cold showered food was excellent so thanks Rob and Violet and ladies Safari and game viewing was excellent we even saw serval and african wildcat! Please before you go make sure you read what the camp offers.. Its a walk in the morning and game drive in the afternoon! this does cause confusion. As its a shared truck be aware of other peoples likes and dislikes so you need to be happy with guest dynamics. One tip please leave enough time to arrive as it is about an

An unforgettable experience among the wild animals of Africa. We stayed for 2 nights at Pungwe Safari Camp. The rooms/tents were really large, clean and the beds were comfortable. Thanks to the absence of fences, we experienced several animals sniffing and walking around the tests during the night, which gave our stay an extra dimension. The absence of electricity or telephone service was relaxing as nobody was on their phones. We were really lucky as we saw the big five and much more during the four game drives. The Rangers knew a lot about Manyaleti park and all the animals which made our encounters more informative. The 3 to 4 meals during the day were also really good. We would highly recommend this place.

Pungwe is a jewel in the Manyeleti game Reserve, Its a small intamate bush camp only 8 guests in total. It is a totaly off the grid camp meaning no electricity even the fridges run on gas This gives it a wonderful remote authentic bush feel which is sometimes lost at the more luxurious lodges It has 4 tented rooms When I say tented they are nice solid tents with a solid thatch roof structure over the tent ( see photos ) The shower water is heated with what they call heating donkey its a drum that has the water in heated by a log fire to deliver the hot water. The main dinning /bar/lounge area is quite eunique as there is a permanent camp fire that burns next to the main dining area were you can grab a bush coffee brewed on the fire at any time. The food was simple dew to

This was our second trip to Pungwe and we will be back again. We travelled from Brisbane, Australia. We stayed for 3 days in September 2017. We stayed 5 days in September 2018! Wow!, great time, and amazing sightings, we saw cheetah, leopards, lions, elephant, rhino, buffalo and much more. Our safari guides Never and Wonder, were brilliant, very friendly and they got us close to the most amazing animal sightings. We cannot thank them enough for the amazing trip. On 1 game drive in 1 hour we saw Cheetah, leopard, elephant and a large pride of lions. Birding was good too. As per my last review in October 2017, you will not find better value for the chance of seeing the big 5 up and close. Pungwe is the best value for money place I know of around the Kruger national park. you
